Geraldine Ferraro said if Barack Obama wasn't a black man he wouldn't be where he is today. And she has gotten a lot of flack for telling her truth - again. In her world a well educated man of conviction, a happily married father who has a verified history of social activism is not worthy to be considered for the presidency.
People like Geraldine Ferraro quite honestly may not know they are racists. My stepfather didn't. Ask him if he supported equality, he'd have said yes. Yet he was such a bigot he would've made Archie Bunker cringe. But he'd be right there telling you how much a Democrat he was. These are the worst sort of racists, in my opinion. They poison the stream of reason with droplets of fear and ignorance.
In Texas, on March 1, 1836, a group of like-minded men convened at a small outpost along the Brazos River. The place was called Washingon. Now known as Washington-on-the-Brazos, it is a significant marker in the chapter of history called the Republic of Texas. Some called their efforts the Texas revolution, they though of it as a fight for independence. By whatever name their endeavor is called, they viewed is as nothing less than survival.
Local morning news programs are heavily reporting Obama's sweep of February 19 primaries in Wisconsin and Hawaii. And it seems to be sinking in to some folks.
Ok, please pardon the attempt at humor in the title. But those who refer to themselves as "real" Texans quite often believe anyone not from Texas is a foreigner to one degree or another. In fact, Some Texans don't really trust Texans who live close to any border, much less anywhere the other side of the Red River.
This is intended as a helpful reference for anyone not from Texas who is helping with the Texas efforts, by phone banking, etc. I encourage others with pertinent Texas insights to jump in, as I certainly don't claim to be a one-stop-shop for all Texas knowledge.
Well, ain't this a kick in the pants. For the first time since 1988 (Dukakis, Jackson, Gore, Hart, Gephardt), Texas will actually be in play for a presidential primary. Oh sure, we have 'em every four years, but usually the decisions have been made much earlier, and for sure by Super Tuesday. As of today, Barack has a slim 136 delegate lead over Mrs. Clinton. Texas will send 228 delegates, including 35 super delegates, to the convention.
