As a physician in academic medicine and a teacher at a university medical center, I must say I'm rather disillusioned with the current reports of the probable upcoming nomination of tele-personality Dr. Gupta for the Surgeon General post. I'm sure he's a fine neurosurgeon, and I realize he too practices at Emory University, but most of his pieces outside the relatively super-specialized realm of neurosurgery is populist "fluff."
I, for one, would like to see someone with a bit more substance in the position.
OK... go ahead... y'all can tear me apart now!
I haven't been on the blogs for a very long time (last post on 11/04), but coming back today is a bit sad for me. There are clearly some very thought-provoking posts, but now I'm seeing loads of what appear to be jibberish and spam.
I hope the Obama website people are remaining vigilant to keep this site at its best. It would be a tragedy for the site that got me involved in politics for the first time to deteriorate after the victory.
The most important day of the year, and you can't access the blogs??
Bad move, network manager!!!
Oh, Joe, say it isn't so!!!!
Turns out that "Joe the Plumber" (a) doesn't have a plumber's license (b) says that he doesn't need one because he works for someone else - but the county they work in REQUIRES employees to have licenses!! (c) His boss doesn't have a license and (d) the man doesn't even have the plan or the money to buy the business he's "thinking of purchasing"

What bullcrap!!! And this has become the cornerstone of the McCain campaign??? RIDICULOUS!!!
I just felt the need to say "Bravo" to Senator Obama's thoughtful, calm performance in the debate last night. I want a thinking President. I want a President with equanimity. Barack Obama is that man!!
Thank you Senator Obama.... soon to be President Obama!!
Johnny McShame's new campaign theme. It's been on the commercials 4 times now since the end of the debate. Well, I think the thinking world knows who the real Barack Obama is, so this attack is ridiculous.
And another thing.... We CERTAINLY don't have to ask "Who is the real John McInsane"
John, WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WE'RE DISGUSTED!!!
... not that Barack needs it, but he extended his hand to John McShame and McShame turned away. Barack wound up shaking Cindy McCain's hand instead.
What an a$$. That man's behavior is shameful. Put that together with the scum that he's spreading on the campaign trail.... I'VE LOST WHATEVER SHARD OF RESPECT THAT I HAD FOR McSHAME.
HE IS NO MAN OF HONOR. HE IS A SNARKY, VINDICTIVE LOSER!!!!!
I think Barack is doing a great job in the debate. He's getting all the positive responses on the CNN dial test, while McShame is coming off as a major downer.
Bravo!
Looks like Tina Fey's spoof wasn't far off the mark. She joked that Palin wanted to "use one of her lifelines" - "I want to phone a friend!"
And what do you know, in her next interview, Palin was "supported" by John McCain in person with Katie Couric. Some lifeline!!
....but I simply HAVE to say it:
JOHN McCAIN IS A REPUGNANT, HATEFUL AND VILE BEING!!!!
Thank you. I needed to get that off my chest.
I am utterly flabbergasted and SHOCKED at the jibberish that emanates from Sarah Palin's mouth! How can any intelligent person think for a nanosecond that this utter lightweight could be a heart-beat away from the presidency???
I watched the Charlie Gibson interview incredulously, now I watch the Katie Couric interview in disbelief... utter disbelief that ANYONE in the Republican party can get behind the mindless prattle that bubbles forth from Palin's mouth in non-sensical word salad. Furthermore the inane answers she gave at Ground Zero this morning.
The economy is in crisis, for sure... but PALIN IS A CRISIS ALL HER OWN!!! I CANNOT CONCEIVE OF HER AS VP IN A McSHAME PRESIDENCY....
WE MUST ELECT BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!!!!! This is imperative!!
For the past 2 days I've been asking my friends "Why doesn't Barack suspend his campaign and go back to Washington due to the gravity of the situation with this bail-out". What a coup that would have been, I was thinking - make McSame look foolish.
Now McShame has beaten the Obama campaign to the punch. Dirty politics, I'm sure, but can someone please tell me why Obama didn't do this first???
(And no, I'm not a troll... I'm an avid, PASSIONATE Obama supporter and zealot who simply wants a rationale)
Is it just me, or is the press, the public and even Obama bloggers spending inordinate amounts of time analyzing the "Palin Mystique"?? Such a lot of energy on a topic of so little substance! Definitely a "Kodak Moment" of a sort, but a moment of fluff and vapid sensationalism only.
AMERICA - WE NEED TO GET TO THE ISSUES...
Barack needs to speak on the issues. Biden needs to speak on the issues. Hillary is already saying "it's the issues, stupid" - and smartly declining to be dragged into a b!tch-slapping contest that the press has been baiting her for.
And furthermore - Palin needs to be CHALLENGED on the issues. The press can stop fawning over her celebrity and focus on her SUBSTANCE - which, I suspect, is minimal.
I simply CANNOT conceive of a country that has an ill-prepared, inexperienced individual (man OR woman) in a heart-beat away from the Presidency!!!
Good job hitting back today!! Great call to get back to the issues and move away from slander politics!!
John McCain used the "pig in lipstick" analogy plenty, and at least once referring to Hillary Clinton. Hillary was clearly self-assured enough to blow that pot shot off without much nonsense. Now McCain is crying "foul, foul" - UTTER BS. Thank you Barack for calling him on it!!
We're here for you... we're pulling and campaigning !! GOBAMABIDEN!!!
CNN is reporting that Sarah Palin is an avid Pentacostal Christian, and has been a member of a very over-the-top church where people have visions and speak in tongues. She thinks she's God's messanger. This is crazy. We cannot afford to have a religious zealot in power!!!!
PALIN MUST BE STOPPED!!!!
We need to get to the points. Obama and Biden need to stay positive and make easy "talking points" to counteract the Republican double-speak.
LET'S GET ELECTED!!!!
