Hello everyone,
I would like to invite you to attend the Avon Township Democrats Open Meeting on October 17, 2009 at 10am at the Round Lake Beach Village Hall. Candidates, public officials, and other progressives will be meeting to discuss what issues are being considered at the county, state, and/or federal level as well as what SHOULD Be worked on.
We are a grass-roots, progressive organization that is small but growing and committed to giving back to our community. We meet monthly at the Round Lake Beach Village Hall and are ALWAYS looking for new members.

Hi,
It has been reported that Rep. Eric Cantor is being considered by McCain to be his Vice President. it looks like Mr. Cantor is a rubber-stamp Republican though may have a fair amount of appeal to those in Virginia, in New York where he went to school, and elsewhere. I think this could pose quite a challenge!
Hello,I am tired of hearing that Sen. Obama has drifted from a previously stated position. Previously, it was 'I'll have a better sense of what to do in Iraq once I return' instead of sticking to the clear need to get us out of Iraq ASAP.
THIS TIME, it is being willing to allow off-shore drilling.
1. We already are drilling off-shore and the country is not making one dime from the oil companies.2. We do not know what if any oil is there.3. The country would look like a PRISON with oil rigs every 1/4 mile along our coast. 4. We should probably demonstrate that we expect the oil companies to maintain the pipeline and supply they have before building new infrastructure they won't want to keep up 3 years from now. In Illinois, I understand that our supply is tenuous and when refinery fires, pipeline leaks, etc. occur, our extremely high gas prices go up even further.
It is VERY important to win elections. However, it is even MORE important to stick to one's convictions and not create fodder for the press and Mr. McCain.
I am scheduled to canvass for Sen. Obama tomorrow though now am hesitant as it seems like his positions are changing almost as fast as and in concert with Sen. McCain (version 2.0).
Please, Please, Please stop deviating from what are sound policies
Once again, the Obama campaign acted with grace, dignity, and humility while in the middle of an unprecedented, bitter struggle.
I suggest the following:
Writing to the DNC, decrying the reversal of the DNC's initial enforcement of rules everyone was initially in favor of.
Writing to the Clinton campaign decrying their untoward behavior at almost every step of the way when it first appeared she wouldn't have the nomination wrapped up by Super Tuesday. If anything stinks of taking citizens for granted it is this presumptiveness and the manner in which Hillary turns on emotions, talking points, etc. in a robotic like manner.
I have some concerns about the recent revelations about Sen. Obama's affiliation with Mr. Rezko. Specifically, it appears that a comparison is being made between the amount it was initially reported that Obama campaign(s) received from Rezko around $100,000-$150,000 to what Sen. Obama stated Friday: $250,000. While the reason for the discrepancy - one campaign for office versus every campaign, it will definitely be mis-interpreted by the media and the RNC.
While this raises the question of what any of us will do with or for a relative or neighbor, unfortunately there is the court of public opinion which more often than not receives undue advice from the media.
While the comments of Rev. Wright concern me (make me angry?!), I think that many of us who affiliate with faith communities or other organizations have experienced times when the organization takes an action or takes on an initiative that we do not agree with. Yet, although this can vary, most often we do not leave the organization, nor stop supporting it. The American Psychological Association did not advocate against the use of psychological techniques in Guantanamo Bay; some people left the APA though not in droves. At least two faith movements have considered various divestment proposals, which while I believe they were mis-guided, did not cause defections from those movements that I am aware of.
Finally, I understand that prominent or affluent supporters of HRC in Florida are threatening to take their sizable donations back from the DNC. First, how GOP-like can one get? If I don't like what occurs I'll change the rules or deviate from them. Second, how in good conscience can a person make a contribution and months later demand it back, barring fraud or similar conduct? Especially when some of these donations were probably made AFTER the DNC naively decided to penalize Michigan and Florida in an absence of forsight or a long-term perspective. If I don't like what an organization does, I won't make contributions to it. However, unless there is fraud or discrimination, I will not demand my contribution back.
