I though I would post this on here, It's my story and opinion I offered to the President's cause. I hope someone listens.
I am no longer covered under my parents' insurance plan, though I am still a college student. They failed to send a cancellation notice, and instead sent us a bill for my blood work and doctor's visit, totalling about $500. That may not seem like much, but to a poor college student, paying my own way through university with a part-time job, it was a lot. It was definitely a lot to have been forced upon me with no notice. My father and I fought with the company for months before they finally sent a cancellation notice for a later date, thus covering the disputed costs. It was an unnecessary struggle I do not wish to repeat. The result is now, I cannot afford to go to the doctor and when I got flu like symptoms a month ago, all i could do is rest and wait it out. Thankfully it went away after a week. That is now how I must operate. One thing my family is concerned with is that I have a thyroid problem, which left unattended could worsen my general health in the long run. That's what the disputed blood work was testing. However, even if I wish it, I cannot afford to do anything about that situation. Even before I had to worry about my lack of health coverage, the idea of profiting off of health offended me deeply. I am against the idea of insurance which adds middle-man bureaucracy only concerned with how wide their profit margins can grow. Health care should be a right and not a privilege for the wealthy. I support the idea of a single payer system, where my taxes are raised to pay for my health care. I believe, in this system, it would be easier to implement a PREVENTATIVE health care system which would save us more costs preventing serious illness early. Please, Congressmen and women, for once consider what is best for our society as a whole, regardless of concerns about re-election bids being affected. If re-election is your main agenda, then you are not truly representing the people. I implore you to create a system to benefit the future of America. That's for what your elected position is meant.Power with inaction, isn't power at all. Thank you, and I hope to the fruits of your labor soon. A deeply concerned citizen, Lindsey Allen,

Hillary should not drop out. She should stop with the "kitchen sink," and focus on real issues. However, campaigning competitively in each state sets up healthy grassroots campaigns in each state that will mobilize for the general election. THAT is not a bad thing at all!
They just need to focus on the issues. Is no one else offended that the media and politicians have such a LOW opinion of the general public that they think we only need to know about flag pins, 6 degrees of separation, and twisted sound bites taken out of context. It makes me so ANGRY that they insult our intelligence in this manner! What's the point in making Americans care about politics if you aren't going to talk ABOUT POLITICS! I want to know how you will affect the world, not pointless religious speculation (separation of church and state what?) or attaching other people's beliefs to candidates unjustly. Make us care about the FAILING education system! Maybe jobs wouldn't leave this country if our citizens were educated at a competitive level with the world. Make us care about the future of our world! Renewable resources and clean green technologies! Make us care about PREVENTATIVE healthcare! Make us care that what we decide in our country affects the rest of the world! We shouldn't think ourselves better than other countries, we should collaborate and share good ideas and make the world a better place together!
Whew! Well, that was my rant for today!

Wouldn't it be nice if we greeted Bush with a Blue Texas once he comes back from Washington? Well, we need to pay more attention to local politics as well as the general election. Here is one specific brave woman running for office whom I met at an Obama meeting in my County. She an underdog too and needs our support! It's Karen Guerra!

"I have been a trial attorney for more than seventeen years. I am proud of my profession. I have never sought wealth or fame. I am not a politician. Why then, am I running for public office? As an attorney, I am entrusted by the People of Texas to preserve and improve our legal system. I am seeking election as Judge of the 16th District Court, because I believe that I can make a difference to improve the administration of justice for the citizens of Denton County. The district courts are vitally important to the citizens of our State, since they are the primary trial courts in Texas. We need judges with experience in all areas of the law and who will be fair and impartial. The citizens of Denton County want judges who will make rulings based on the evidence and the applicable laws, regardless of the Judge’s personal beliefs and regardless of the parties or attorneys involved. I will be such a judge. I do not owe favors to anyone for donating big money, for pulling strings to put me in power, or for voting deals or political favors. Although I am running for office as a Democrat, I am not seeking office merely to promote a political party’s agenda. I am running for office because we need a change. If elected, I pledge to work hard for the citizens of Denton County. I will treat all parties and attorneys with respect. I will be fair and impartial. I will make prompt rulings, because justice delayed is justice denied. I will be available. We need judges to spend more time in the courtroom and less time working on getting re-elected. I will schedule cases to make the best use of available resources and to avoid lengthy delays. I will not claim to know everything, but I have the intelligence and experience to determine what is right. I am offering experience, dedication, and integrity, and I am asking for your support."
Her website has lot's more information if you are curious about more! Please go there! If people know about other local candidates and want to share a little or at least get out websites for them, please do post them!
I want to know a lot more about my local candidates so that they aren't just names on a ballot!
I feel like there should be some easier way to educate everyone on local candidates, because you really have to look for them. I wish it to be more prominent, since they affect our lives more than the President generally does.
I'll continue this topic later, but please support local candidates too! Educate yourself and others! Give me more names and websites and platforms!
Thanks everyone!

The convention has come and gone and i must say, that was an experience!
I had quite an interesting 13 hour day. I got to the park at around 8am and was surprised to see it already full of people. I mingled with neighbors i've never met before, heard speeches from local candidates, and selected an Obama delegate to go to state. I signed up to be an At Large Delegate and had to wait around more for the process to continue, so i ended up following a gentlemen from my precinct who had volunteered for rules committee. So basically, i went around and met a few Denton Democrat Party Officials and offered to be a volunteer in the future. I didn't think volunteers were necessary anymore since much of the caucusing was over. So i sat down with the Rules Committee and met some interesting people. Soon they realized that no one had tallied the presidential preferences after the registration in the morning, which meant that the At Large Delegate Nomination Proceedings could not begin. It was speculated that it should have been the Credentials Committee or the Nomination Committee that should have handled that, immediately after registration ended. However the box of registration sign in sheets was dropped in front of Rules Committee. it was around 6 pm when this occured and I was adopted into the Rules Committee along with another woman to help sort through it all, as the Cilnton and Obama people circled us watching to make sure everything is calculated in fairness.
First thing i noticed was that there was an inconsistency in how alternates were bumped up to delegates in those various sign in sheets. Next time the volunteers need to be trained in advance to have ONE process, so as not to slow down and confuse those trying to tally up the delegate preferences. In the same vain, some of the alternate sheets, they didn't write down any preference at all and we were forced to consider them as undecided. Fortunately it only happened to a couple.
The second thing i noticed was one precinct page were a registration volunteer tried to add it up in advance, this was the only page i saw that tried to do this. There was only twelve sign in slots on a page and one additional person signed in after that on the second page but their calculation came to 15 delegates 4 Hillary and 11 Obama. Strange math. So I counted it for myself and saw that there really was 11 Obama delegates and only 2 Hillary. What's up with that? I corrected it and moved on, but not until asking what the most correct way of dealing with their previous miscalculation would be. I didn't want to accidentally cause any legal problems.
Well we finished the calculations and overall it was about 66% for Obama and 33% for Hillary. Nominations Committee took those numbers and went to work.
In the end I was chosen as an At Large Alternate! While i learned a lot that day, i'm still not positive what an At Large Alternate really means. I think it's the same as an Alternate, but please correct me if i'm wrong. I still get to go to state regardless, which is what i wanted! Whoo! Austin!
I was proud to be a part of that group of 1600+ democrats.
Healthcare
If you want universal healthcare, wouldnt the only efficient way to do it be similar to a country like Japan? There it's just all handled through the government and taxes. Yes, taxes are higher, but you get to walk in to any hospital and leave without any money out of pocket. My friend who studied abroad for a year there had an operation for almost no money! Their country as a whole is MUCH healthier than ours. Basically you get rid of the insurance companies completely because you would be paying the government instead which reduces bureaucracy costs and eliminates the money insurance companies took for profit.
It just seems to me that the best way to regulate healthcare price and medicinal prices would be to take away the profit side of it. Businesses should NOT be profiting of of HEALTH!
Oh well thats just my view.
I'm 22 years old and am not a first time voter. I was able to vote in the last general election and being fiscally conservative...I was a Republican.
4 years can change a person and even though i am still fiscally conservative, money isn't my only concern, there are much more pressing issues like the environment and ending this insipid war in Iraq and restoring American diplomacy in the world. Not to mention making college affordable and fixing the decrepit education system as a whole. On a side note, i propose colleges make it customary that every student should study abroad for a year of their college career. We will increase foreign relations and our country as a whole would have a better view and understanding of the rest of the world.
But enough of that. Anyways, Washington has drowned any hopes of being fiscally responsible and now i figure i would rather pay for healthcare than a pointless war.
And this is why Obama is important to me. Everything he represents resonates with me, except healthcare. With healthcare i am indifferent, but everything else i feel is important to our country and he can lead us in a positive direction! Bonus* he is inspiring!
The rest of the world is watching us! Obama is already raising respect for us around world just through this campaign! If the rest of the world can see the significance of this, then why do some Americans seem so oblivious?
Alright, so i stuck out the Texas PrimaCaucus and now I am officially an Obama delegate that's attending the Denton County convention on March 29th.
I know all this. What i need to know is, what happens at that convention and afterwards?
Please let me know!
I am really excited to be a part of this process, but I want to know what to expect!
Precinct 313 in Highland Village. There was 48 for Hillary and 32 for Obama but keep in mind the neighborhood is Hillary constituents, older white women.
That took 2 and a half hours OUTSIDE and for several precincts. It was a huge turnout; created horrible traffic and everything. I personally parked a couple streets away and walked the rest.
so there was 6 delegates for Hillary and 4 for Obama and I am one of the Obama delegates going to the county convention on March 29 and hopefully on to the state convention in Austin in June!
Even though i nearly froze, it was still exciting!
