Tabling for Obama at Montrose Farmers Market
We'll have an Obama information table at the Montrose Farmers Market, reaching out to the "closeted" Dems in the predominantly red-voting area, giving out info, talking about Our Favorite Candidate, and selling bumper stickers and buttons (and perhaps cool t-shirts). We'll also have voter registration forms. Come on by to lend support and lend a hand. The Dems at the market are thrilled to see us out there. And in case you're wondering, the GOP folks aren't hostile, and our presence gives us the added opportunity to boost awareness for the general election.

January 31, 2008 - California
We had a small group of the “die-hards” (myself, Mike Barako and Laura Lee-Chin), who braved decidedly muggy weather to go door-to-door and spread the news about Barack. We met at “Oh Happy Days” health-food store on Lake Ave. in Altadena (which was graciously set up by Laurie Kay.)
Given the limitation of time and manpower, we decided to focus on one street and walk together.
Laura is an experienced politico and is quite adept at canvassing. She shared some tips with us. Mike jumped in without hesitation (as he always does), and I was back-up support.
We met a lot of people who were undecided, but who were interested in taking campaign literature. We told folks to check out the debates on July 23rd.
There were a lot of really interesting people and sadly too many tragic stories.
One man was a former LA County Sheriff. He said his son was going to serve in Iraq. Unfortunately, just that morning he’d attended the funeral of a son of a friend of his, another LA County Sheriff. The friend’s son had been in Iraq and, 10 days into his second tour of duty, was killed.
We met another gentleman who said that he’s very interested in Obama and he’s a definite supporter. His daughter is very involved with the campaign through USC. He used to work in the petrochemical industry as a project engineer, and would travel to places like Saudi Arabia quite often for work. He talked about the fact that he has never seen the negativity toward America overseas that he now sees since the Bush Administration took over. Also, he personally knows five petrochemical contractors who have been killed in the Middle East as a result of our war in Iraq and violence toward Americans.
In the span of about 10 minutes, we heard about 6 deaths stemming from our Iraq policies.
This fellow said that he feels that it is very important that the campaign address issues of science and technology in a way that gets things “right.”
There were a couple more folks who were already onboard. A few people said that they felt that impeachment was the only way this country would get back on track.
Overwhelmingly, people were both happy and surprised to see our commitment and our willingness to canvass for our candidate. One man, who had stated that he’d given up on politics, said, “It’s nice to see you guys out here. It’s nice to see that someone cares.”
We are hosting a fundraiser for Barack Obama in Pasadena on June 11 from 7:30pm-9pm. Obama will be in attendance.
Tickets are $1000 and $2300.
The $2300 VIP tickets will allow you to attend an exclusive reception with Sen. Obama for one hour before the event.
After that, the VIPs are invited to join the $1000 event, which will be held in the backyard of a lovely home. Sen. Obama will mingle with the guests outside and give a few words to address the crowd.
Food will be provided as well as musical entertainment.
If you're interested, buy your tickets NOW, as space is filling up.
Email pasadenaforbarack@gmail.com if you'd like to attend
