14. Another Way to Make a Difference from the Comfort of Your Home: WINIndiana! Update: Pamela McKee is opening a lead over the pack in our WINdiana contest... but it's early. A good solid effort could catch someone up.
From Ian Martinez, former DC for Obama Chair who is currently fighting on the front lines in Evansville, IN. Ian needs our help and Barack needs our help in a winnable state: Indiana. a) WHO: DC for Obama. Help Barack in this year's *other* vogue swing state, Indiana, which, much like VA is one of the fabled "LBJ" states that hasn't gone blue since 1964. The polls have us neck and neck, and much like in Iowa last summer, it will be voter contact that swings the election our way.
b) WHAT: WINdiana! A phone banking contest into the SW region of Indiana; historically this is the swingiest part of the state, with most of the rest quite set in its ways. Bill Clinton won the region overwhelmingly, while Al Gore lost narrowly and John Kerry got clobbered. We can do the most here to shape the electorate, while much of the rest of the state is about GOTV. Also, it's the region of your former chair Ian Martinez!
We have established a virtual phone bank into Newburgh, Indiana, a densely populated bedroom community that swings elections from the local courthouse to the statehouse. All participants will be given a login. Paper lists are available in .pdf format upon request; and one-on-one training available over the phone for all volunteers. Whoever makes contact with the largest number of Hoosiers between the Friday after the convention and the following Friday night is the winner!
c) When: Now! Contest ends Friday evening, September 5.
Call time is from 1 PM to 9 PM EASTERN (these calls are on Central time), but keep in mind most people will be available during the early evenings after work.
d) Where: Right from the comfort of your own home, or from a bustling phone bank hosted by one of you! The beauty of our campaign technology is that you can either get together for a traditional night of calling (who'll step up and host an event like this), or simply call from your computer.
e.) Why: because only by talking to Indiana voters can we WINdiana! Your efforts matter RIGHT NOW! Contact ianindc@gmail.com to get started. ***Please go to www.barackobama.com and donate to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane relief efforts*** 15. 16. Save the Date, Sept. 18, Non-Partisan Voter Registration/Voter Empowerment Night at Nationals Park vs. New York Mets www.voterregistrationnight.org John Walsh of America's Most Wanted will host this great event!
17. Save the Date for Rep. Patrick Murphy
Mon., Sept. 22, 7:30 - 9:00 PM. Lounge 201, 201 Massachusetts Ave., NE, $100 donation requested. This will be a fundraiser for Rep. Patrick Murphy from suburban Philadelphia. Rep. Murphy co-chaired Barack Obama's Pennsylvania campaign and campaigned with DC for Obama members in December 2007 in New Hampshire. Patrick became only the second Democrat to represent his district in 93 years. Added to that, our district is only 39% registered Democrat. He was in office for about 2 months before being added to Karl Rove's "hit-list". His unique profile as the first and only Iraq war veteran in Congress has helped him take a leadership role in the fight to redeploy our troops from Iraq and fight a smarter "War on Terror". Rep. Murphy has strong Republican opposition and he needs our strong support. If you support just one incumbent Congressperson, Patrick Murphy is one to consider. For more information contact Sara@Murphy08.com

Join us for our regular Thursday get-togethers in the back room at Timberlake's (1726 Connecticut Ave NW, north of Dupont Circle). Socialize, network, rant, and converse about what's going on in the country and the world. Check the blog for occasional political blathering and posts about other events: http://dcdl.org. Also, we have a Facebook group, for those who are into that sort of thing:http://www.facebook.com/group. php?gid=2786925020 Spread the word about Drinking Liberally! If you enjoy our events, tell your friends and get them to subscribe to our announcement list:http://livingliberally.org/ chapter/email_signup/5688
22. Yes, you can - Give to the DNC's Victory Fund
Even if you have "maxed out" to the Obama campaign, individuals are still allowed to give up to $28,500 to the DNC's Victory Fund. Of course, restrictions apply such as no donations are allowed from federal lobbyists. There is a lot of fine print you should review before you donate. If you are confused about the limit or what you can donate, contact Howard Park at hpark4@aol.com and he will put you in touch with a finance staff person.
1. Obama Victory Fund Fundraiser with Sen. Joe Biden, Thursday, Sept. 4 Thursday, Sept. 4 please join Sen. Joe Biden for a discussion & cocktail reception benefiting the Obama Victory Fund, 5:30 PM, Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Ave., NW, $2,300 per guest. There will also be a VIP reception at 5:00. Invited panelists include: Tanya Kinlow, William Lockridge, Oralia Puente, Jeffrey Richardson and others. 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thurgood Marshall Public Charter School, 2427 Martin Luther King Ave., SE, 20020.FREE for more info or to RSVP go to: http://my.barackobama.com/ page/event/detail/gpl4zc 3. DC to VA Victory Teams Virginia is going to play a critical role in deciding whether Barack Obama will be our next President, and it is going to be a close race there. The extent to which we mobilize will be the X factor in this election. If we all join a DC to VA Victory Team, spend as much time as we can spare with our neighbors to the South, and bring our friends with us, we will be that much closer to changing the course of history. What is a DC to VA Victory Team and why join one? Each of the seven DC to VA Victory Teams is comprised of volunteers that chose to work in a specific city, based on the demographics of the area. Per the campaign's direct request, all of these seven cities are in Northern Virginia. Team members will meet up at a central location on weekends, carpool together down to their Virginia field office, walk door-to-door registering new voters, identifying Obama supporters, and ensuring that they come out and vote for us. Joining a DC to VA Victory Team is the most important thing you can do for this campaign. It is the most important thing you can do for our country. This personal contact with voters is proven to be the most effective means of generating votes. It is a winning strategy, but we cannot win without you. It is true that you could simply go to a field office alone and volunteer. However, if this campaign has shown us anything, it has shown us that we are far more effective when we work together towards a common goal. Joining a team will provide you the opportunity to help other supporters be of greater benefit to the campaign. If you have a car, joining a team ensures that your car is always full when you make the ride to your local Virginia field office. If you are a natural leader, joining a team will give you the opportunity to keep your team motivated. The list could go on... For more information on this initiative, and to sign up, visit http://www.surveymethods.com/EndUser.aspx?9BBFD3CB9CDDCCCC Are you unable to spend your weekends knocking on doors for Obama? You can still help. The success of this program will depend on two things; enthusiastic volunteers, and money to fund the program. If you would like to make phone calls to supporters in DC asking them to join a DC to VA Victory Team, please send an email to victorycalls@dcforobama.com. If you would like to help fund this program, please contact Adam Barr at albarr@gmail.com. All contributions to this effort are considered campaign contributions to the Virginia Campaign for Change, a joint committee of Obama for America and the Virginia Democratic Party. A list of offices currently involved in this initiative is at the very end of this newsletter.
"We cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done... At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future." - Senator Barack Obama, August 28, 2008 4. Sept 20 - DCFO Bus Trip to Winchester DC for Obama is sponsoring a bus trip to register and identify Obama supporters in the heart of Virginia. This is the second of a series of bus trips to move DC folks to key areas where the Obama campaign needs assistance in VA. We'll be headed to the Winchestera area, so be sure to get on the bus! The bus will leave Sat September 20th at 7:30am (subject to change) at the corner of Mass Ave NW and 21st St NW, and return that evening. We encourage everyone to consider joining a victory team -- we are working in conjunction with the Victory Team program, especially if individual volunteers are ready to commit to taking multiple weekend trips to Virginia. That said, if you can only commit to one weekend, please consider taking this bus trip. To register go to: go to: http://dc2va2.eventbrite.com/
After registering, please consider a minimum donation of $10 to cover the bus and gas costs- we are an all volunteer organization. A donation page will appear after you register. -- Gregory Jackson Jr.
Clinton Excluded Nearly $24 Million of Husband’s Earnings from Senate Financial Statements
Date: Tuesday, May 06, 2008
By: Greg Gordon, McClatchy Newspapers
WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Clinton excluded nearly $24 million of her husband's earnings from Senate financial statements from 2004 through 2006, capitalizing on rules that permit senators to limit disclosures of some of their spouses' income.
AP reports today
Hillary Rodham Clinton was jolted Thursday by the defection of one of her longtime superdelegate supporters, a former national party chairman who urged fellow Democrats to "reject the old negative politics" and unify behind Barack Obama.
ITS ABOUT TIME!
New Yorkers Write Letters to these uncommittted Super Delegates!

Moderators George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson spent the first 50 minutes obsessed with distractions that only political insiders care about--gaffes, polling numbers, the stale Rev. Wright story, and the old-news Bosnia story. And, channeling Karl Rove, they directed a video question to Barack Obama asking if he loves the American flag or not. Seriously!I just signed a petition to ABC and other media that says: "Debate moderators abuse the public trust every time they ask trivial questions about gaffes and 'gotchas' that only political insiders care about. Enough with the distractions--ABC and other networks must focus on issues that affect people's daily lives."Over 200,000 people have signed so far. Want to sign it too? We need a bunch of signers for ABC to take this concern seriously.Click here to sign:http://pol.moveon.org/enoughdistractions/?r_by=-9189854-_ayT7D&rc=pasteThanks
