I traveled to Evansville, Indiana today with a group from St.Louis and had an experience I wanted to share on the weekend before the Indiana primary:
My canvassing partner Mary Ellen and I were canvassing in an area where there was two large areas of houses that were separated by a 2 mile walk...we were walking on the left hand side of the road where there was no sidewalk and there was alot of hills and curves...all of a sudden we heard a voice shouting "Do you need a ride"...to this I replied, "Yes, but please pull into the next driveway where we can meet you since this was a road where drivers tended to drive fast and we were concerned that she would cause an accident by stopping in the middle of the road...
Before we got into her van, I asked if she minded giving a couple of Obama supporters a lift and she said that this was fine and that she was concerned that we were walking along a "dangerous road"...she took us to the entrance of the subdivision where we needed to be and proceeded to tell us that she had lived on the road a long time and that she had seen many accidents and she just could not bear to see us risking our lives...she mentioned that she felt that either Barack or Hillary would do a good job as president...she also said that the Obama campaign should be happy that it had two dedicated volunteers out there willing to walk a long way and on a dangerous stretch of road...we profusely thanked this kind woman and went on our way...Mary Ellen mentioned to me that she thought she saw this woman outside of her house as we walked down the road and sure enough that was the case...the sign in front of her house read "Hoosiers for Hillary" !!
Yes, we CAN disagree without being disagreeable...this story was the highlight of our day...LET'S GET OUT AND MAKE THIS CHANGE AND BRING OUR COUNTRY BACK TO THIS SHINING EXAMPLE WHERE WE LOOK PAST OUR DIFFERENCES AND LOOK OUT FOR EVERYONE'S BACK!!

Last Thursday Jon Carson, the Obama National Voter Contact Director, spoke on the National Call Team conference call. He broke down the Pennsylvania results and the current delegate count, discussed the remaining nine contests, and talked about the real impact that your calls have had so far. As Jon explained:
"The work you've done has meant dozens and dozens of pledged delegates that we wouldn't have won without the [calls] that you're making."
Over the past four months, our grassroots phonebanking operation has exceeded all expectations and has become a key part of our voter contact efforts. But here in the final stretch, your phone calls are as valuable as ever.
There are less than 10 days before polls close in Indiana and North Carolina, in what will be two of the final big contests of the primary. With the combination of Early Voting in Indiana and One-Stop Early Vote in North Carolina, we have a unique opportunity in the next few days not just to identify supporters, but to bank actual votes. That's why we've set an ambitious goal of one million calls by May 6th.
It will take a committed, continued effort across the next week and a half to meet that goal, but never forget that the work you're doing makes a difference . . .
That is a monumental task but we can make easy work of this if you just break it down:
This breaks down to 50,000 supporters making 20 calls each or 25,000 supporters making 40 calls each...so let's get out an urgent message to all of our Obama friends in the next 24 hours to help make calls!
Everyone can make calls their homes! This works great if you have a long distance calling plan for unlimited weekends on your cell phone plan and even better if you have a company that let's you have unlimited long distance after 7PM on weekdays! If this is something you wish to do, please take the following steps:
Go to www.barackobama.com and place your mouse pointer over the Action button and click on the Action Center button. Then scroll down to the Get Involved Online area and click on Phonebank from Home. Then click on the state you wish to call. The main priority is Indiana but we also need help with North Carolina. Thank you!
We are hoping to get donations of lapel stickers(10,000), bumper stickers(1500), and lapel pins(1500) for upcoming events like the Cards/Cubs series May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and the Belleville Art on the Square event on May 17th and 18th!
This race is far from over and by keeping up the fight and working as diligently as we can I feel we will see an Obama nomination on the 2nd ballot at the Democratic convention!
I am also asking for help with passing out Obama lapel stickers, and getting volunteer signups at the Cards/Cubs series. Go to the following links for details:

the plans are underway for going to Ohio! we need as many St. Louis Obama supporters that we can get!
please reply to my e-mail address of acceptnobs56@yahoo.com !!
here are the tentative plans:
1.) The "Keeping in Touch" event will go on as planned and I will host this
2.) The volunteers going to Ohio should plan to leave shortly after the meeting(around 11:00PM to 11:30PM on Friday, February 29th)--as for me, i put in to volunteer thru Ohio primary day on Tuesday, March 4th...the Obama campaign would really like everyone who comes to commit to a 4-day or 7-day stay...i noted a 4-day stay in the online signup
3.) I have made a special online signup for our group...this will reflect the name of my online group on http://my.barackobama.com which is "Southwestern Illinois for Obama"...I have requested that we be assigned to volunteer in the Cincinnati/Dayton, Ohio area since these cities are reachable within 6 hours of St. Louis)
4.) In the online signup, I requested that housing with Obama supporters in Ohio be arranged for all persons going...Anyone going will be asked to help by paying for their own food...
5.) Out of the volunteers going to Ohio, we will need people to help provide transportation...if you have a minivan or SUV or vehicle that will seat 4 people comfortably, please let me know!
6.) I would like to ask that any commitments to help in Ohio be made by Tuesday, February 26th...
If there is any way you can come, please do this! It is so very important that we work to turn the tide in Ohio and help Barack Obama win the Democratic nomination!
Now if you are unable to come to Ohio, please consider going to the Action Center on www.barackobama.com and using the online phone banking tool to make phone calls to Ohio...i think that the website will start to allow calls to Ohio starting after this Tuesday!
You may receive this invitation 2-3 other times since I am going to pass this invitation on thru different means in order to reach as many area supporters as possible!
take care and LET'S BA-RACK OHIO!!!kurt
Please go online and sign this petition stating your demand that Sen. Hillary Clinton's delegates in Michigan and Florida NOT be allowed to be seated after the Democratic National Commiteehas already ruled that these state's Democratic parties had violated rules by not holding their primaries as directed by DNC.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Give-Us-Fairness
After signing this petition, please urge as many people you know to sign this petition as well. Pass it along by ListServ, blog posts, word of mouth, phone...any way you can!
Dear Obama supporters,
Some of you have asked how it is that you can help the Obama campaign now the Missouri primary and Super Tuesday is over.
Beside the "Keeping in Touch" event on Friday, February 29th, there are some things that you can do:
1.) Stay tuned about phone banking to states that have not yet had their primaries or caucuses yet(I have copied a schedule of upcoming states below my signature)
2.) Write(and I mean this seriously) to John Edwards and urge him to endorse Sen. Barack Obama for President. Please include why you believe that Sen. Obama is the better candidate and whyhe would be able to best lead our country. You can write by going to:
http://www.johnedwards.com/about/contact/form/
3.) Do some research and find out the number and names of all super delegates to the Democratic National Convention so we can engage in the work of contacting these persons and urge them to support Sen. Barack Obama for President! These "super delegates" are not bound to support any one candidate and their votes could be swayed!
4.) Stay tuned for info on a developing story in Michigan and Florida where earlier the Democratic National Committee had stated that the delegates selected in their primaries would not be seated and told all Democratic candidates not to actively campaign there due to DNC rules violations. There seems to be reports that there will be some kind of move within the DNC to allow Sen. Hillary Clinton's delegates to be seated after all. I will try to get more info and let you know! If this should turn out to be true, we must be ready to respond in huge numbers and write to the DNC and the state Democratic committess in Michigan and Florida and demand that this not take place!
We still have a long fight ahead and we need to build our support even beyond what it is now in order to win the Democratic nomination for Barack Obama!
Take care and LET'S CONTINUE TO SHOW AMERICA THAT BARACK IS OUR CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT!

Let's rock the Dome!
Barack Obama will be at the Edward Jones Dome at 9:00PM this Saturday!! It is vital that we get as many supporters to attend as we can! If you would like to volunteer, please go to

I am at the computer here in Saint Louis and in about 4 hours I plan to be celebrating a Obama victory in Iowa! The next step is winning in New Hampshire and then in South Carolina! I am writing this to all Obama supporters who have not committed volunteer time in South Carolina!
I want to write from the heart...I am 51 years old and a married father of 2 wonderful boys. I have been proud to say I am an American, but I must be honest and say that my faith in American government has been diminished. We have 100 U.S. Senators and 435 U.S. Representatives. This total of 535 men and women in the legislative branch of our government represents less that .0005 of 1% of our population and yet you would think that these elected officials would have a sense of honor and duty to our country and yet a person would be hard pressed to believe that these elected officials are in Washington, D.C. and their state offices to help us. We the hard working American people are struggling with our bills. Many families need two breadwinners to get by. We are faced with $3.00+ per gallon gasoline, rising medical costs, rising drug costs, rising utility costs, a convoluted and unfair income tax system, rampant pork barrel spending(need I go on?)
I have been wishing for a major change in government but I have seen my hopes dashed time and time again. IT IS TIME for new leadership! IT IS TIME for American citizens to take back the government and elect a decent, hard-working and honest person as president and that person is BARACK OBAMA! We must work to help Barack win and then we must we work more to convince our U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives to work with Barack to bring us the change we need--affordable health care and prescription drug coverage for all, energy relief and a plan for energy independence by 2020(this should have been a goal achieved a long time ago after the Middle East oil embargo in the early 1970's!), a fair income tax, and a fiscally responsible government that will work to bring down our national debt and operate within its means!
For my wife, for my two sons, for me, and for Barack--I am urging you to volunteer at least one weekend in South Carolina! If you go to http://my.barackobama.com and login to your profile(or go there and create a new profile) and search for groups by your zip code, I know you will find a group who has plans for canvassing in South Caroline!
Thank you for your help! You will feel good knowing that you made the BIG DIFFERENCE!
Take care and let's BA-RACK SC!

It would appear that some serious questions need to be posed and answered as far as the integrity and fairness of The Washington Post and it's managing editor, it's assitant managing editor and reporter Perry Bacon, Jr.
See http://www.mediachannel.org/wordpress/2007/12/05/wash-post-obama-story-under-fire/
-Apparently someone gave them the green light from the Hillary Clinton campaign to smear Senator Barack Obama with allegations that he is a secret radical Muslim. These rumours were debunked years ago. And yet, like Hitler and those of his ilk, they feel that a lie told often enough and convincingly enough and (in this case)by a media source that touts itself as honest and trustworthy that it becomes accepted as truth. They seem to feel that it is alright to report without regard to truthfulness, or fairness, or without checking the facts.
See http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp
Shame on them! I think that this latest stain in a string of stains on the paper's journalistic integrity should show readers that The Washington Post is no longer a reputable newspaper. Let's hope that in the future that decreased readership will bear this out!
I received this message from a fellow MyBO group member and wanted to pass this along! Please use this contact info for Al Gore to write to him and tell him why you support Barack Obama for President and ask for his endorsement!

I would like to invite you to a one-of-a-kind special fundraising event for the Barack Obama campaign:
Event Name: World's Longest Conga Line for Barack ObamaDate: Sunday, December 2, 2007Time: 11:00AM-5:00PMLocation: Saint Louis, MO(exact location To Be Announced)Cost: asking for a minimum donation of $10 to the Obama campaign plus a small dish of food(this can be a salad, casserole, or dessert--please bring this on a disposal dish or in a disposable container)Drinks will be provided
This event will be a part of a 3-day National Fundraising Event called BA-RACK AMERICA/BA-RACK THE MEDIA!!
The purpose will be to enlist the support of my.barackobama.com groups across the country to hold their own fundraising event during the period from 6PM on Thursday, November 30th to 6PM on Sunday, December 2nd.The goals will be $3 million for the campaign War Chest and (probably just as important) 300,000 new donors to the Obama campaign! This will help show the media that WE ARE STRONG and their bashing of our candidate will not stop us in helping with Barack Obama's inevitable march to the White House!
Our event in St. Louis(besides raising money and gaining new donors) will have the extra twist of being an ACTUAL ATTEMPT to break a record in the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS! The record for the Longest Dance Line is 1681 people...we are hoping to get 10,000 people to participate and shatter the record! Plans are already underwayto get the OK from the Guinness representatives to attempt the record try and hope to have this just in time for the event!
We will be video-taping this event and working to get this on YouTube and other outlets and work to getting this video shown by the media to show that messing with us ONLY MAKES US STRONGER AND MORE DETERMINED TO HELP OBAMA WIN!
Now, in order to get the number of participants we need, I am asking that you do the following:
1.) Keep your plans open for December 2nd and plan to attend! The link to sign up for the event and make your pledge is:http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/fundraising/4vhcj (please keep checking this link for the exact location of the event which will be posted by November 15th!)
2.) In the next week or so, please encourage AT LEAST 3 of your friends and/or family members to sign up and come to participate! Then encourage each of those people in the week after that to talk to 3 other people about signing up, and so on...
3.) Please, if you can, donate more than the minimum of $10! This helps the Obama campaign so much!
4.) If you notice, I have posted this event on the sites of My.BarackObama.com groups as far away as 200 miles from St. Louis...if you are a member of one of these groups, please consider lining up transportation so you can have several people come! This will be a REALLY FUN event and a great experience for ALL(especially college students!)Just think, when you look at the Guinness Book of World Records and look up the world record for Longest Dance Line and it shows 10,000 participants, you will know that you were a part of this history making event!
Now, if you are unable to attend, please consider organizing your own fundraising event near to you during the National 3-Day Event! If you are willing to do this, please let me know and send me the info on the nature of the event and I will send to you a donation link to send all the money that you raise!
I do hope that if you are unable to attend the event in St. Louis, that you will take part in a fundraiser near to you and let's show this country how we feel about SENATOR BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
Take care and LET'S CONGA FOR BA-RACK!
