Representative Ty Harrell was unable to be with us at our kick-off organization event with campaign representatives last night, 26 March, at Bogart's, but he was a co-sponsor of the event and sent the following message to us in his absence.

Dear N.C. Obama Supporters: Although I can not be with you tonight, I am delighted to learn that so many of you are ready and willing to bring Sen. Obama’s message of change to North Carolina. This is truly an exciting time! Many of you will recall that I WAS THE FIRST ELECTED OFFICIAL IN THIS STATE to endorse Sen. Obama. I was chastised by some political observers, written-off as “young and naïve” by a few more and was the target of many negative comments made online. Well, guess what?! The majority of those who originally doubted my political instincts are the very same people who now contact me so that they, too, can “get involved with the Obama campaign.” But this campaign isn’t about me. It’s about the visionary leader who will change the course of conversation in this country; a leader who will bring the nation together and begin to heal the deep wounds of the politics of the past. It’s about the strong leadership Sen. Obama displays that reignites the sense of hope that has been absent from so many people until now. Are you ready to be the change you seek in the world? You will be the catalyst for Sen. Obama’s success in this state. Over the next several weeks, North Carolina will draw the attention of the nation, and each of us will need to work tirelessly everyday to show that North Carolina wants, deserves and will help deliver change on May 6th. You may grow tired, but there are too many of us around you to let you fall. I will be joining you soon, rolling up my sleeves, knocking on doors, making phone calls and sending email as we make history. So, if you are ready. If you are willing. The war in Iraq continues to claim the lives of our soldiers, our national resources, and our international standing on the world stage. Our political climate is poisoned with argumentative bipartisanship and special interest lobbyists. Meanwhile, our poor grow poorer, millions are without access to insurance and health care, and the future of American infrastructure support systems such as Social Security is questionable.I know that everyone is quite busy with personal lives and work, but in the current political climate, change is absolutely necessary and to secure that change, we need to contribute whatever resources we can.
