I am a Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter and I have to say this speech was amazing. It doesn't change my views on who is the best candidate but if he were to get the nomination I would take a second look at him. I went to class and sat in the back listening to his speech (really bad) I thought it was worth getting in trouble because this speech was going to determine what went on from here on out. I am glad he came out and gave a formal explanation although I think he should have done it earlier. But that is beside the point; he came out and said SOMETHING. I am a Hispanic female and I am a firm believer that the reason why "blacks" and "browns" are not like "rich white people" is not because "rich white people" are racist but because we BELIEVE that they are racist so we don't try. I can say this from experience. I moved to NY from Guatemala when I was 8 years old and I didn't speak a word of English my family is less then "middle class" my mom (single mom) has no money, we don't own a house or a nice car my mom works to pay the bills yet I attend one of the best schools in Virginia, Virginia Tech, I have a job lined up in Washington DC with a great salary. I ask myself how come I am here. How come other can't get here? I think it's the mentality that we have. If I had thought I had no chance because first I am a WOMAN and on top of that I am a MINORITY I would probably be working at Burger King like my mother and thinking I had no chance to fulfill my dreams. I chose to believe that this country was better than that, that is the reason my mother came to the United States with no money and no job lined up. I am very proud to be an American and I have to say when I heard Rev. Wright’s comments it HURT. I know we are better than that. That is why I NEEDED for Sen. Obama to give this speech.
