Barack Obama for President

A little over a month ago, I purchased a dozen yard signs from the store planning on using two of them and giving the rest away to friends. I had forgotten that I even ordered them until I heard a caller on the Randy Rhodes show earlier this week talking about how hard they were to come by. Low and behold, the next day my yard signs turned up at my front door. So they do exist people, just be patient.

My house is situated on a corner lot along one of the main entrances to my community. The side yard backs next to the main street which is where I stuck my first sign. I put the other in the front of my house. Not even 24 hours passed before the sign along the main entrance was swiped. I didn't intend to use all 12 signs, but at this rate they will all be gone in less than 2 weeks.

It should be noted that I live in Cave Creek which is very close to Scottsdale in a community of what seems like mostly upper class and lot of elderly citizens. That's not 100% by my choosing, but that's life for right now, or at least for the next few years until my daughter finishes school. I only mention this because I think it explains the reason my sign didn't last long.

I thought that by putting the yard signs up my neighbors, who more than likely swing the McCain way, might just stop for a second and think about this important decision we must make in November. Instead, it seems like its driven them so mad that they could not bare to look at the sign.

Anyways, I've replaced the sign. I have 9 more to go so we'll see how long they last. I've considered adding a little note to the sign or setting up a motion detection light/camera system to catch who it might be. After all, it is on private property and I've apparently already shook the boat with one neighbor.

Anyone else having issues keeping their signs in the yard?

Changing the Electoral System

Dear Senator Obama,

Thank you so much for the hope and inspiration you have bestowed upon this country. Your words and your actions have unlocked a national sentiment that I thought was long gone. I cannot wait until next January to see you, Michelle, Sasha, and Malia standing on those steps at the capital being sworn in as the next First family!

Through my enthusiasm for your campaign I've had the opportunity to learn how the electoral system really works in our country. I find it fascinating yet very disturbing at the same time. You speak very often about fairness in America, and the electoral system is one thing I feel is very unfair. Let me explain my reasoning.

When voters turn out to cast their vote for a candidate, they want their vote to be counted. Yet, even in these primaries, their votes are often proxied through a complex calculation into delegates, delegate representatives, or electoral colleges. Moreover, it is possible that even the delegates that our votes have been turned in to could mean absolutely nothing at the Democratic Convention if super-delegates don't abide by the voice of the people. This is the craziness in our system that disenfranchises voters and alienates all hope for our political system. Unless of course it works in favor of the candidate your are supporting, but even then I think it is just wrong.

I would like to know where you stand on this issue. Do you feel that the election process itself is something that needs to be changed? Would you support a system where the popular vote is THE vote and do away with delegates, super-delegates, and the electoral college?

Barack Obama Chat Room

There is a new Barack Obama chat room that has been setup on IRC (on the freenode.net servers). If you've never used IRC, its very simple to use. And, if you don't have a client (i.e. Colloquy for Mac or mIRC for Windows) you can join in online using Mibbit (http://www.mibbit.com).

To use mibbit, go to http://mibbit.com. Under "Connect to a new server" enter the following details:
Type: IRC
Server: Freenode.net
Nickname: [choose nickname]
Pass: [leave blank]
Channel: #barackobama

Make sure to include the hash (#) before the channel name. #barackobama
