This is the perfect time for Barack to take control of the (negative) debate and take the high road. On the eve of the 9/11 remembrance ceremony Senator Obama was viciously attacked by John McCain directly is an ad charging Barack supported sex ed for kindergartners. Barack should address the media today, not at a rally, and state that he is saddened and angered at the vicious and ugly attack. He should say he is saddened what it says about McCain’s view of political debate but also he is saddened for the American voter because it shows that John McCain does not respect voters and thinks they are too stupid or ignorant to see such a low blow for what it is. He should then say he is angered at the direct affront on his character as a U.S. Senator, a Presidential Candidate, as a husband and especially as a father. He should state that the ad breaks all bounds of ethics and that is why he (Barack) is filling a formal complaint with the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee and with the Federal Elections Commission. He should then call on John McCain to renounce the ad and to apologize. He should say that John McCain showed great courage and honor in standing up to his captors in a prison in Hanoi for four and a half years. He should say it is now time for John McCain to stand up to his current captors of Washington insiders, Karl Rove types, and lobbyists who currently run his campaign. Finally, he should state that if John can’t stand up to them now, how can the American public expect him to stand up to them should he become President. If Barack does this he would change the debate, own the high road and be able to go back to focusing on the economy and the lack of workable proposals by the McCain group. If he doesn’t do this he will continue to be pulled into “lipstick” crap and they will have succeeded in keeping the campaign about everything except what matters. Seize the moment Barack.
