I'M INSPIRED!! But now I want some tangbible, concrete ideas. Many have criticized Sen. Obama for being a fairytale and for raising false hopes. I liken him to Mandela leading the new South Africa. In order to make necessary and real change in a fractured society; we need a visionary who dares to dream. However; once that vision is universally understood we have to look at the issues AS THEY REALLY ARE. Barack Obama is an idealist which sets him apart form anyone is his conviction and real belief in making change (not jumping on the change bandwagon a la Hillary and the others). I believe he lost New Hampshire becase at the last minute, voters thought "I like him and he makes me feel good. But what is he REALLY going to do about my gas prices and my devalued property?" This is where Hillary Clinton's "experience" pitch and links to the "good ol' 1990's when Bill was President" really resonated with voters at the last minute. What we need to realize is that the economic and international foreign policy issues are very complex but a complete and thorough overhaul of attitudes must come first. Dr. Ron Paul has been curiously ignored by the mass media but his following is real because he speaks the truth and speaks it consistently. The Obama campaign can stand to learn a lot from Dr. Paul because his ideas of liberty, humble foreign policy and fiscal conservatism are real and tangible. A truly revolutionary step would be to publicly acknowledge the truth in Dr. Paul's message while not allying with him outright. That is how Obama can sew up the independent vote and appeal to the young and jaded because at the end of the day he's the only one with the charisma and the appeal to really make it happen. Reaching out to the "black sheep" of the republican party will send a strong message of unity to the american people and will also strengthen Sen. Obama's message of true change through analysis of foreign policy and tangible economic results.
