A Response to a letter Patty emailed to the Diversity Group informing the group the New MYBO Activity Tracker still has issues to solve regarding the implementation of the new IT system.
Patty,This is a SHOUT OUT!!! "THANK YOU" for all you do keeping us informed. It is NICE to know the campaign staff is working on the problem.
Of all the people on the old MYBO system, you had the most to loose. With your 200,000 points, you were the NUMBER ONE by tens of thousands of points. Of course it took you being on the phone for 10 hours a day since January to accumulate all those points. It is nice to see you keeping us informed as to the implementation of this new direction to help Senator Obama.
It's funny; I am working with CHANGE for America. Senator Obama is leading the charge. Yet on a personal level, change comes hard. I miss the old MYBO system. For sometime indicators have shown an adjustment was needed. How many times have you had a friend's request; you click on it; it takes forever to load up; when it does, the "Friend" has 2,000 other "Friends" and 10,000 MYBO points? As far as helping elect Senator Obama, these were a waste of my time and the senator’s server space. To make things worse, we "accept," because we don't want to offend.
The Activity guide is a way for the campaign to let us know how to help. What is important? The one thing I am SURE about is the campaign has been GREAT in the allocation of resources. During the primaries, the campaign chose which battles to fight. Some states were full charge ahead. In other states only limited resources were used. We, The Army of Obama, really are the greatest resource the campaign has to use. We, the Obama volunteers, are more important than ALL the money collected. This change is a way for the staff to redirect our efforts.
At this stage "doors knocked," may just be more important than "events attended." One area of importance has always been, “calls made.” There are head quarter groups devoted to mobilizing phone callers. For many that volunteer in states that are not “in-play,” making phone calls is the ONE area where we can be productive. At the present, everyone’s total for calls made is zero. I have yet to find one of my friends that have been given credit ANY of their calls. Surely, that will be corrected. Also, we don’t know how, when or where to “knock doors.” This new MYBO Activity Tracker will HOPEFULLY both correct lingering deficiencies from the change over and elucidate how we can best serve this phase of the campaign.
Patty, Once again; "THANK YOU."
Thanks for letting us know the MYBO Activity Tracker is not perfected installed AND the change in criteria will be explained. That’s a lot of THANKS coming your way.
Senator Obama reportedly wanted a group of people working in harmony. I think the quote was, "No Drama." We that work the computers are part of the campaign. The changes in MYBO has created LOTS of DRAMA. Something needs to be done to get to a place where the only DRAMA is OBAMA.
Please send explainations.
How far along in the change are we? There is a place for "calls made", but those made are not listed. There is a place for "amount raised," but there is no reflection of the amount raised. There is a place for "doors knocked," we have never knocked doors before. There is no listed place for "guests" that attend events, but there was. There are other things missing like friends, log-ins and comments.
What has changed?
When will we know?
The campaign should communicate with grassroots. We are in the dark.
A Whisper:
"What began as a whisper in Springfield soon carried across the corn fields of Iowa, where farmers and factory workers; students and seniors stood up in numbers we've never seen. They stood up to say that maybe this year, we don't have to settle for a politics where scoring points is more important than solving problems. This time we can finally do something....This time can be different." Barack Obama February 5, 2008; Super Tuesday
A ROAR:
“…hear me roar. In numbers too big to ignoreAnd I know too much to go back an' pretend'cause I've heard it all beforeAnd I've been down there on the floorNo one's ever gonna keep me down again”Helen Reddy and Ray Burton from “I am woman”
This time WE MAKE IT DIFFERENT: These two quotes sum it up the feelings of many Obama Supporters.

My.BarackObama Mentor One
A FRIEND: Become their Obama Friend and use MYBO to email them. When one emails using MYBO it sends a message to the mentee’s regular email account. This helps reinforce MYBO usage. Encourage them to have friends.
THE GROUPS: The heart of this activity is to develop locally active Obama supporters in a short period of time. Encourage them to join a local group or groups. In large cities they may have a choice of which groups to join. In rural America there may be only one group. The concept is LOCAL, LOCAL, LOCAL. A State group is encouraged. Most states have more than on statewide group. They are encouraged to join many. Some state groups are more active than others. Joining interest groups is highly encouraged. Be it cats or dog; music or movies; students or teachers; the Obama site has choices.
THE EVENTS: Help them sign up for an event. Some areas will have local events. In some areas, an online event may be the choice. Try to get them to sponsor a local event. This event may be as simple as meet at a Starbucks to discuss and organize. LOCAL, LOCAL, LOCAL: people connecting with people locally.
It took me months to find my way around MYBO. We only have a few weeks until the General Election. This event is designed to develop a NEW ACTIVE SUPPORTER in a WEEK not MONTHS. Invitations will be sent once. This is designed for those Obama Supporters that check their group events. I will be hosting a MYBO Mentor One each week until mid October. You may sign up for a different mentee each week. The week will change each Monday. For events, please check my profile:

CAN YOU DO IT???
Obama supporters are passionate people period. Yesterday the reaction against The New Yorker cover was over whelming. Every group’s email list was clogged. We responded with determination, force and passion. From the stand point of a campaign it could have been classified as a wasted day. Informational posts, phone calls, and positive person to person communication were most likely down. We took the day off to vent.
This morning Peggy Noonan was on Morning Joe. She, Nina, Joe, and Mike Barney were talking about the emails from some internet supporters of Senator Obama. ALL agreed some emails were “over the line.” Some emails wanted Peggy to reside in the ninth circle of Dante’s hell for making a suggestion that Senator of Obama had changed a position. Mike pointed out the internet give anonymity. Just the name Enforcer99 gives power to the writer. One can go to the dark side and writer anything from a position of power. In college I had a favorite English professor that used this line; “They have constipation of the mind and diarrhea of the mouth.” When some on Morning Joe speak, they might foul my world, but the ninth circle too much; Purgatory maybe but the ninth circle?
I am noticing a too often high level of anger in some group communication. This goes back a few days. The disagreements over FISA resulted in Headquarter warnings about the use of certain language. People were being called body parts; idiots; animals. Just pick an idea most likely it was used. Too often lately, I am reading someone attacking ANOTHER OBAMA supporter in most unflattering terms. The next exchange often has someone dropping out of a group. We need to RESPECT and be CIVIL to others be they of different races, religions, sexual orientation, or OPINIONS. This is an inclusive campaign. ALL ARE NEEDED.
Another Senator from Illinois, Republican Everett Dirksen, often talked of Politics as the Art of the Possible. I may want an outright ban on plastic water bottles; but when someone suggests a system of deposits, I don’t have the moral authority to condemn them to hell: neither do I have the personal right call them an idiot. WE ARE ALL WORKING TOGETHER TO FIND SOLUTIONS.
The points of this ramble:
We are going to have different ideas to about what are solutions to problems.
We can moderate emotions. We don’t always need to go over the top.
We need to be civil to each other; BOTH Obama Supporters and NON Obama Supporters.
We need to focus our efforts on the positive points of getting Senator Obama ELECTED.

Oh! I just happen to have a link to Herschel’s Help:

Under our 1st Ammendment, The New Yorker has the right to print this cover. We have the responsibility to take them to task. This is offensive in so many ways. The focus is not on Senator Obama, but on Michelle and the American Flag. They know better. It is POOR judgement on the part of the editors.
When satire doesn't work, it's offensive. This cover offends...PERIOD. It hurts!!! It also shows how the muslim community can be attacked. The New Yorker is politically sensitive enough not to print a cover with Senator Obama spitting watermelon seeds. African Americans would not stand for it. Yet The New Yorker chooses to offend muslims and Obama supporters.
Those that approved the cover should be terminated. Terminated not for exercising their freedom of speech, but terminated for the damage the cover will do to The New Yorker brand.
Obama supporters are the major subscribers to The New Yorker. How many cancellations do they thing the are going to get?
This will provide fodder for the talking heads. But it hurts The New Yorker magazine more than it hurts a CAMPAIGN TO BRING CHANGE TO AMERICA.
What were they thinking?
I HOPE this helps:
Experiences From A Corpus Christi, Texas Volunteer
Being able to stop in Obama headquarters was an enlightening experience. There was always encouragement and excitement. “Wonderful” and “Awesome” were forever words of the day. One feels good being a part of this unique American experience, a grassroots effort by ordinary people, just like us, to change political influence and political direction. With each phone call, with each conversation, with each conversion one gets a “warmth.” With each rejection we know we have more work. With both rejections and conversions we know WE are MAKING A DIFFERENCE. This campaign is about US making CHANGE.
I grew up in a small town in Georgia. For much of the year conversations revolved around cakes, pies and peas; but, during late summer the town would come alive. Tobacco buyers would arrive; the chant of the auctioneer interrupted slow southern drawls; anticipation and excitement consumed. As an elementary grade kid, I sold boiled peanuts in those tobacco warehouses. Another world was exposed. After a month of auctions, buyers left; tranquility returned; and conversations again reverted to those same cakes, pies and peas. But, a child had been changed; a longing for excitement remained. The Obama office staff is gone; the office is empty; excitement is missing and that same yearning experienced by the child has returned to the gray beard. Another world has again been exposed.
The primaries are over. If you miss the "action," you might think off becoming active on my.BarackObama.com. This is an “awesome” site to network. Montana will be a VERY important state in the General Election. Try to get your friend to communicate via the Obama Friends.
The distance between Point A and Point B is most likely several miles in Montana. Emails on my.BarackObama.com are an environmentally friendly way to organize. If you stay active the “fire” remains.
