Comprehension and Communication“ More Than Being About Technology” byGregory V. Boulware
The “Information Age” has been with us for some time now. Jules Vern, Isaac Asimov, and Eugene Wesley (Gene Roddenberry) are just a few of the visionaries that many people ridiculed and laughed at for their dreams and insight(s). Many may well argue that they were just plain crazy. I am not one of them. I have always been an avid reader of Sci-Fi mags, books, articles, etc, and its film varieties. Should they not be believed? Just take a look around you. How many people have noticed that drastic change in the world today? How many of you have noticed people walking around with devices that seem to be glued to the side of their heads; seeming like their talking to themselves or appear to be delusional? However, the down side to mobile communication devices is that people are not properly governing themselves to the various disciplines and responsibilities associated with the use of these tools. Are you driving a car and talking on a cell phone? Are you annoying someone who is nearby and not desiring to hear and/or listen to your conversation(s)? How about not being able to function without your personal communication device(s). Albeit, we need to have the connection to information platforms, we still have a very long way to go.
Data is just raw material until it becomes useful information. Remember my piece on IT and BI? The information was/is intended as a teaching and encouragement format to aid any and all American Information Technology and Computer Science Students in their technology endeavors, be you a person of color or not (“Tech Assimilation and Warehousing of Talent”).
My last entry brought about some interesting opinions and comments. A friend of mine made a profound statement to the article. What he said is so on target; it had to be shared with the aspiring Information Technology, Computer Science, and Business students and those who are not. I left the quote in its pristine state due to its consistency. Two other friends made excellent comments to this teaching platform as well. Their examples portray the direct result of what this reporter was alluding to where it affects and the effects of a non-techie person’s ability to interpret the language and structure within the world of Enterprise Wide Technology Information and Communication.
My friend Irma:What was the phone call about any way? What I am trying to get at is if it was some form of wrong doing why only a phone call then try to treat you like a misbehaved child of hers to boot? The next time maybe you should put it on tape or speaker- phone so that the demeaning tone, and words used can become a counter complaint. One should always demand respect as well as give respect...for example, my phone is in my home /my possession as one does not ever (even my children) disrespect a home, be it mine or anyone else's home!!! ! I am sure by now you have gathered I am from the old school (smile)
Irma’s question pertains to the investigation of my “Enterprise” web site as it relates to people who use the Internet for employment searching and the displaying of abilities for potential employers to view. The telephone interviewer/investigator was from the Unemployment Compensation.
My friend Mozell:Interesting story, it said little but it said something. It sort of read like a recruitment/poor me piece. I failed to get the point but then again maybe I was not supposed to. Sort of like you say prospective employers...If there is in fact a shortage of qualified IT folk, and this void can be filled by qualified black applicants...is it implied that the schools you mentioned have active recruitment components that you wish us to know? Rhetorical...Like my friend I am at a loss to the reason for the ill-tempered caller. To what end was the call initiated? What information did she dispute, or dislike you sharing on your page. Honestly not being privy to your page I do not understand how this post if related would help you obtain employment other than to say you were informed that IT people are in short supply and ...you are qualified to fill a position in the field. If your are an instructor, your students are...I shall await further info to form a solid opinion. In the mean time if your goal is to raise awareness of the plight of IT folk you were moving in that general direction. As far as security is concerned and the sharing of info...that’s a tricky topic. Granted they are supposed to be on the same side. I find it a lil crazy, and tend to think hacking is the undercurrent of your piece. I will retire there until you are forthcoming with more info you are dangerously close to the same behavior that you say the non-compliers you speak about practice. Compartmentalized.
Mozell’s comprehension of the IT BI Community is limited. This example should be made aware to people who are lead to believe that they are computer literate because they have the ability to navigate through a few applications and utilize the script-written software and its’ peripherals allowing the portal entry onto the “Information Highway.” This is not to say that there aren’t many skilled individuals who can operate, navigate, and communicate within the IT world without formal training. One of my sons is so talented in the operations and machinations of software and hardware that I sometimes consult with him. I’m the one who is supposed to have the IT/BI and Business Administration Training. Yes?
Now we get to the crux of this message!
My Friend Clark Maxwell:
First of all, assuming that person that called you about your website was from the unemployment office, she was an idiot. That has not happened to me, but I have heard of that before where it is assumed that because you have a website you are actually working.
Part of the problem with IT in this country is that it is the most misunderstood of all of the “industries.” In most cases the people making the decisions regarding who is hired, what projects get done and how resources are allocated lack the understanding of IT to be making such decisions. Most people like to think they are tech savvy but have little understanding. And most projects are doomed before they even start because of it. The stories I could tell…
First of all, there is no IT shortage in the US. That is a myth that has been floated by corporations who have sought to undercut IT workers here using the H1-B program. H1-B for those of you who may not know is a program that essentially allows employers to hire someone, mostly from India, to perform an IT role within an organization. It first started out where that was allowed only if they could not find a person in the US with similar skills, hence the myth of an IT shortage. The thing with H1-B is that employers pay these people far less than the going rates for IT skills in the US, thus undercutting US workers. At the same time, “outsourcing” became popular, wherein on any given IT project; they would send portions of the project, like the programming, quality assurance/testing and other components to shops in India, where they would charge far less. A programmer in India can be paid $10/hr and that is considered high. That same person coming here will get paid more than that but far less than what a US programmer is typically paid. The perspective of the H1-B worker is I make my money here and send it home. When my H1-B visa expires, I go home and live like a king. Companies would hire H1-B workers over US workers simply because of the up front cost savings.
But long term there has been a cost associated with overuse of H1-Bs and outsourcing. In many cases the projected cost savings were eaten up in rework of application code, in inadequate test plans that produced software with many bugs that required fixing after a system is in production, which is always more costly. This happens mostly because of the language barrier and also in some cases because of the time difference and coordination of meetings with key individuals that don’t happen because of it. I have been called in to “fix” many projects that have been outsourced because of the adverse effects of some or all of the above. The reasons these lessons are not being learned as quickly as one might think is because in most organizations IT is a service and the purse strings are held by those who require the service of IT and not the IT organization itself. They tend to call the shots and in too many organizations it is still not understood that when it comes to some decisions regarding how monies are to be spent, that MUST come from IT, or IT at least there has to be considerable input, if they want that money to be spent most effectively.
I have worked for myself as an independent contractor for over 15 years. In that time I have worked every role there is, from programmer analyst to software engineer to systems analyst and project manager. In most cases I work as a lone wolf, but in some cases contracts I take on require a team in which case I bring in my own people as subcontractors. On many of the projects I’ve worked on I have worked with H1-B workers, and, for want of putting it better, just because the person is from India doesn’t mean they are better, even though for many hiring managers that is what it comes down to. While I have worked with some very smart H1-Bs, I have also worked with some not so smart, and even the cheap rate they accept is not worth it. But the perception is entrenched. On the flip side, I can honestly say that some of the smartest people I have worked with in IT have been African American.
And speaking of hiring managers many of these gate keepers are clueless not only about how to properly evaluate the skills of prospects, but also do not understand the technical requirements for the projects and departments for which they seek to hire. I’ve had recruiters call about projects and ask the most ridiculous questions that have no bearing and indicate that the most they can do is say words and little else. If anyone asks you “where do you see yourself five years from now,” you may as well stop the interview right there, as I can almost guarantee you it’s a waste of time. The changing dynamics of technology and working in general makes that question just plain stupid.
In short, the biggest obstacle to the US IT industry is the US IT industry itself. We have skilled workers here who can fill a lot of these roles but for the desire of corporations to go cheap. We can’t nurture a strong IT workforce here if we continue to put people in a position where they cannot make a living. In a sense, we are ceding our homegrown technical edge for the short-term gain of profit. In the long run it’s not worth it.
That said, here’s the advice I would give to persons of color in the industry or just starting out and seeking to get in.
1. The most successful IT person today is going to be one who understands the Big Picture. You should understand the SDLC, e.g. software development lifecycle process, and how your role fits into that, as a programmer/analyst, business analyst, systems analyst, QA analyst or implementation person. That means you understand not just your role but the roles before and after yours in the development process.
2. Strive to not be a one trick pony. Many people will bill themselves as a .Net Programmer, for example. Hiring managers are looking for people who can do multiple things, like write documentation, specifications, understand database design, etc. Focus your professional development on skills that are ancillary to yours.
3. If you are someone in college seeking to get into the industry, the best place to be is a consulting firm where you are likely to be exposed to different technologies. Experience is favored over education. Most managers will take any day, the person who has experience in, Unix shell scripting, vs. someone who just completed a course. The person who has a diversity of skill sets is going to be the person most attractive to hiring managers. If you hire on to a company early on in your career that is wedded to one technology after only a few years your market value may be in jeopardy, as what is “hot” technically changes all the time.
4. Develop on your “soft skills.” I tell people I mentor all the time: the IT industry, more than being about technology, is a “people” industry. People tend to hire those who can demonstrate confidence in their abilities and have the ability to develop trust. Verbal communication and body language is very important. Also understand how to be a team player as well as a leader; someone who can put together and run a meeting, as well as thrive in a team environment. Develop the skills to be a “self-starter” and that is someone who has a clear grounding in #1 such that they do not need to be told what to do in most cases, they already know. Look for ways to “add value” above and beyond your role.
5. Invest time in networking. Join local chapters of IT organizations; create profiles on IT-related sites that promote networking. If someone passes a job to you that is not a good fit, think of whom you can refer it to.
And here is the problem with a lot of the academic programs. The curriculum that many offer for Computer Science degrees are just outdated and/or inadequate. Students come out of some of these schools and they lack the skills to even get in at an entry level. And the vast majority of the people that I have worked with have not had CS degrees. Back in the day before there was such a thing as Computer Science, if someone wanted to get into computing they would seek a degree in Electrical Engineering. I would still recommend that as engineering curriculum better prepares a student for being able to diagnose, analyze and solve problems, which is a big component of what an IT professional does. An IT professional, if nothing else, is a solution provider.
Early in my career I have often been the “only black.” The problems I encountered with that is a big part of the reason why I went out on my own, and in retrospect it’s been the second best decision I ever made (marrying my wife was the first!). But you don’t see much of the overt racism that we dealt with back in the day, although its still there it’s not as blatant. In many if not most cases, the cost of IT services is such that most organizations cannot afford the foolishness of race, and while hire and promote those that can deliver, regardless of race or sex. Speaking of my own experiences, I’m still not ready to say if that is the rule rather than the exception though.
I would advise and encourage the preceding statement(s) as it is (in my opinion) one of the most prolific and profound statement and explanation that I have heard in a very long time. IT/BI students should especially take heed to what my friend(s) have said. One day it could be you that is searched out for the absorbing of knowledge and guidance.
For individuals who have found themselves out of work and receiving UC Benefits, use the Internet to gain employment contacts. Do not allow anyone to sway your diligence in the pursuit to gainful employment. The one thing that U.S. workers have as a financial backup is the Unemployment Compensation Insurance Structure. Thank God for its existence! Many of us would be ruined without it!
How many of you have initially applied to companies and/or the various organizations with a paper application? Today’s job searching platforms just don’t allow it! It doesn’t matter to what organization…everyone is utilizing the Internet for the hiring process! Don’t believe? Try it for yourself…let us know if you can still apply for a job in today’s market without the utilization of the Internet, regardless of the profession, business, and/or industry.
“Sister Irma, Thank you as well. Your sentiments are right-on! The respect of my home is not an option, as I believe to be true of other folk's homes. The woman made an ass of herself and it makes no sense in arguing with an ass.” Yes?

“Tech Assimilation and Warehousing of Talent” byGregory V. Boulware
The other day, I received a call from a state representative regarding the information posted on my web site. I was questioned about its content. The woman on the telephone was totally non-communicative, arrogant, and oblivious to the answers given in response to her questions.
Having been formally unemployed for more than a year, the last thing that I wanted was to jeopardize my UC bennies. The content of my web site(s) are not only meant to profoundly convey information to visitors, but to display my particular skills and talents. The woman wasn’t having any. The more she spoke, with defiance, the more it became obvious that she was not an IT Person. Her telephone cadence ended with her assuring me of forthcoming follow-up contact from an investigator.
The site content not only speaks for itself, but it is very clear that it does not generate revenue for my personal gain. Albeit, revenue generation of family, friends, and acquaintances is the sole benefit to the business and activities pertaining to those particular individuals. The posted data is primarily intended to aid people in educational, current and past events, and employment connections. The site also aids my job search and exposure to perspective employers. The intent is to make an impression.
Computer Science Students of color are highly underrepresented in the IT Workforce.
People of color with degrees are the least represented group prepared for IT jobs in the information technology industry. The implication displays serious dissention for higher education as well as with the IT industry. The limited number of IT workers is not only limited to people of color. The attraction and retainment by employers of a particular group represents a major deficit to the information technology workforce. Underrepresented groups, i.e., African Americans, Latino Americans, Women, and Older workers would profoundly benefit the expansion of information technology workforce needs. The 1998 report by Herman D. Hughes, a professor at Michigan State University said, “Studies have shown that if those underrepresented groups were fully participants in the IT workforce, there would be no IT workforce shortage.
“New Legislation, White House policy, and a Cyber Security Czar should help the situation. The lack of centralized leadership has hindered information sharing on vulnerabilities and uncertainty about government security policy remains to be done in opening up data silos”, according to Mr. J. Nicholas Hoover of TechWeb.com.
Federal agencies reported that various intelligence agencies had pieces of information about the U.S. attackers of September 9, 2001. This non-communication faux pas aided to gaps in information sharing among these pertinent agencies. Mr. Hoover also said that no agency had all the pieces needed for a complete information package. However, “there has been progress since then, from multi agency information sharing agreements with the adoption of wikis and blogs.” Albeit, rifts and gaps remain, terrorism information sharing has become a government wide approach to data sharing. “Information sharing mandates and training programs have been implemented by fewer than half of the affected agencies,” says Hoover. The Markle Foundation finds “old habits die hard!” All agencies are required to disclose details of their stimulus spending as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This includes all states involved and the jobs that have been created. Consistency is sought by the Treasury Department with regard to its financial reports with government wide treasury accounts. Improvement within the White House Office of Management and Budget is expected to create cohesive financial management systems in its improvement efforts, according to Hoovers’ report.
The question is why is it that redundant non-interoperable systems remain normal within government agencies? Hoover states, “Many agencies insist on maintaining their independence and those that want to open up face technical obstacles in sharing information.” He cites the Department of Defense as a case in point. Military branches resist utilizing Defense Information Services Agency (DISA) or the Defense Business Transformation Agency (BTA).
Siloed Information has proven to be the DOD’s biggest challenge while slowing in the modernization of the departments business systems as recorded by the Government Accountability Office. More than 3,000 disparate financial systems are replaced and/or connected to 12 ERP systems (Short for enterprise resource planning, a business management system that integrates all facets of the business, including planning, manufacturing, sales, and marketing. As the ERP methodology has become more popular, software applications have emerged to help business managers implement ERP in business activities such as inventory control, order tracking, customer service, finance and human resources.) with a spending allowance of one billion dollars annually. Countless interfaces require the connectivity of reconciliation errors within these governmental systems.
“It is clear, the future of information technology is inextricably tied to how well underrepresented students are prepared,” says Bob Reed, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at Cingular Wireless Systems, as reported by Mr. Fred Green Jr., NNPA Technology writer. “The path to success begins long before a potential employee completes a job application.”
This reporter’s collegiate study has spanned more than 10 years. Attending Philadelphia Community College, starting in the fall of 1996 with Management and Technical Studies and Berean Institute College of Business Administration and Computer Science in Philadelphia PA, Accredited By: The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, etc. The later institution is an “HBCU”(Historic Black Colleges and Universities).
A challenge was given to three HBCU Campuses. The three historic colleges were Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA; North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C.; and Florida University in Tallahassee. The business students of the three campuses were charged with the development, implementation, and marketing plan to reach their campus peers and faculty membership. Cingular Wireless Systems made this challenge, says Mr. Green. The rewards are scholarships, grants, and company products. Cingular’s challenge provides an opportunity for the business students to present their abilities to show capable balance and theory with teamwork concepts as well as individual creativity. (The challenge results are to be announced at a later date).
Employers are constantly seeking new skills, training, and learning. Why is it so difficult for IT and BI (Information Technology and Business Intelligence) students to acquire the sought after jobs and career paths that they seek? (Especially within the government agencies!) Why are entry-level positions of employment riddled with red tape when it’s obvious that applicants have the skills and abilities to perform IT tasks and responsibilities?
An IT Labor Shortage? Please!
IT skilled laborers tend to not have their skills on idle format. They, (we), need to keep up with the information trends and changes. We are constantly encouraged to continue educational pursuits even while the costs have risen to unreachable heights for the average person. We are encouraged to build and maintain on-line profiles and resumes’ that will attract employer viewings. We are encouraged to display our skills and talents on the Internet, only to have them scrutinized, ridiculed, disrespected, misread, and misunderstood. Our competition is not of our country and yet we are constantly encouraged while being discouraged from attaining the goals of our government – “The American Dream!” The competition constantly nurtures it’s home grown (and not home grown – but – returned home) trained and competent talents that places their IT productions to greater heights! That particular talent (in most cases) does not endure the pressures of financial stress, not to mention medicals, with the knowledge that the nurtured talent is intending to serve the government to which it calls home…motherland: for at least one to two years. The competition looks back at us and smiles. The competition grows with the changing technology trends and changes while we sit and scream “IT Workforce Shortage!” The competition goes home with the trophy and we are sixth and seventh place in the world competition IT and BI platform(s). Take a look at the Beta Max, VCR, Home Computer(s), Electronics, etc. Is it not time for us to ride high in the saddle, to be first, to lead? We did it with the Presidency, didn’t we? So why can’t we find a way to fill the “IT Workforce Shortage” and utilize all of our talent…throughout the Land of the Free…the Home of the Brave? Inclusion is the only way to complete and utter freedom and release from our technological binds. We do not have to settle for runner-up, either!
Are employers viewing your web site, profile(s)? Are they drawing the wrong conclusions? Is the employed contractor/vendor adept to the current challenges of the IT World and it’s technologies? Is the investigator capable of understanding simple IT Language and its meanings and symbols? Or is it once again “Big Brother” announcing who’s really in control?
What’s on your web site?
Til next time.

I did send a message to PHEAA via email, apprising them of my situation while seeking assistance regarding my class enrollment.
I find it difficult to conceive that after all of the years that my family and I have attended Community College of Philadelphia, I would be
considered not worthy of some latitude regarding tuition payment, especially when it was CCP that forwarded a letter of Tuition Payment

are concerned. I never thought that I would be joining the ranks of those that experienced financial aid difficulties and/or failures. My sister-in-

many hours of study in light of her personal (on-going) plight, the loss of her only daughter while struggling to hold onto a part time job, to no

I earned this degree as a full time student in less than two years. I wonder why it is that I cannot achieve the credential (The Certificate of

students to succeed. I would have completed this goal by the end of the spring semester with the aid of PHEAA had this interruption not

Re: Voter Registration Data Submission
This is the third (3rd) time that I’ve been asked to submit documentation as to who I am as it related to “voter registration.” It’s the third (3rd) time that I’ve made the necessary and corrected submission of information as it relates to “voter registration.”
Now, “Let Me Make This Perfectly Clear!” – USAction, Education Fund, Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Bureau of Commissions, Elections and legislation, “I Am A Registered Voter!”
It seems that someone has not been doing his or her homework as it relates to “Voter Registration.” I have received once again, another form to be filled out and returned to the bureau. The correct data is:
1. Gregory Vernon Boulware, 50 East Walnut Lane, (12.10.52).
2. Gregory Stuart Boulware, my son of another address, his own home.
3. Gregory Stuart Boulware, Jr., my grandson of the address – same as his father.
Your internal records should reflect the same as the aforementioned. When conflicts of data are raised, I would think to research the info and compare the data. The continual receipts of “Voter Registration Applications” to my address with the name inscribed incorrectly raises the question as to how this keeps occurring. There is only one junior to my children. The latest addressee is identified as “Gregory V. Boulware, Jr.” No “Gregory V. Boulware Jr.” exists in my family tree.
The continued mailing of incorrect data does make me a bit suspicious. Should I be?

BEWARE OF VOTER REGISTRATION DISCREPENCIES!
LEGAL EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION
by Gregory V. Boulware

Seeking employment? Looking for a job? Have you not experienced this - “applicants are subject to background check(s) - (drug screen, criminal background check, child abuse, and CREDIT CHECK)?
When applying to a job and/or career position, you can always expect the standardized “background check.” If you are hired to drive a vehicle, be responsible to care for and/or teach someone’s children, operate machinery, stock shelves, maintain a data base, mop a floor, fry chicken and flip hamburgers, wash cloths, wash windows, or whatever the hell else you’re applying to do, why is it so important to have a credit check? Albeit, if you are applying to work in a bank or handle funds of some nature, one can be expected to be investigated for fraud, stealing, robbery, and any other crime involving money!
But if you are doing a job while working on a construction project, i.e., laying bricks or knocking down a wall, driving a truck, or taking out the trash and mopping a floor (which is expected of many of us), why in the hell would anyone want to know if your credit is good or not?
I’ve applied to many job opportunities where this Claus is the application/hiring requirement. Have you seen the same? How many times have you applied electronically (internet application) and not contacted? How many times have you received a call from a potential employer (usually an HR Rep.), and he or she explained that if your credit score is not in a certain percentile, you will not be interviewed and/or selected for further processing? I received a telephone interview once where the interviewer literally stated that if your credit score were not acceptable, you would not get the job! The job position was “Administrative Assistant”, a job classification that I’ve worked for several years; the interview itself went pretty well up to that point. I never disclosed to the interviewer what my credit score was. I believe that “it’s none of your business!” They would also ask if you’ve had a bankruptcy or not. That one almost always indicates they don’t want to talk to you! I also understand that employers wish to evaluate the applicant’s skill set regarding responsibility, trustworthiness, and/or the ability to handle his or her personal affairs. The latter should not be invasive to the candidate’s personal life and/or affairs.
It seems to me if employers want to hire “legal American Employees”, they could make the process a bit more appealing and less stressful. The reports that I have seen on the major networks always mention the unemployment figures only to exacerbate the financial status image of the country and/or to benchmark their ratings. After filing out a long drawn out application, with multiple profile pages, answering all of the questions over and over again; taking more than an hour to complete, receiving the email that reads - “we have received your application, should we find that you are a fit to what we are seeking - a representative will contact you”. Only to not be contacted or interviewed is more than enough to make any potential job seeker say to “hell with this.” When your career accomplishments, scholastic achievements, are not being recognized and/or respected, it’s small wonder that jobs are not being fulfilled as expected (or planned).
Outsourcing, NAFTA, the hiring of so-called cheap-non taxable-uncontested-illegal immigrant labor has wrecked havoc on the nations’ economic stability. I can recall when one could walk out of one job setting and go directly across the street and get another job without blinking an eye - back in the day when the country was a powerhouse of manufacturing and self sustaining manufacturing qualities. Its people were proud to say “it’s made in America by Americans and we made it at our place of employment.” I can recall when fathers’ and mothers’ could tell their children stories of what they contributed to a certain product or what building they worked in and what building they helped to construct.
American workers of all races, colors, creeds, ages, and religions have bent over backwards to stay abreast of the changes in the work force. They and I have gone back to school, earned college degrees, endured new and continuous training in order to keep up and/or compete in the global and domestic job market. It seems to me, with all of the adversity that Americans face on a daily basis, we continue to listen to tales of economic woe. The companies continue to cry out “we don’t have enough qualified workers to fulfill our workforce needs.” How many Americans do you think buy that garbage? Especially when the vast majority of companies are making high profits - “hand over fist”, via offshore skill and labor. When do you think they will wake up and realize that they are part of the problem and not party to the solution? What ever happened to “skill and trade shop training in the public school systems? What ever happened to “on the job training and skill recognition?” If you are an older-seasoned worker, being respected or recognized for your life skills is a total joke! The higher food chain moguls seek ways to eradicate our pension(s), social security, job security and stability, and seek ways of putting us out to pasture. Some of their excuses are “your job skills are outdated, we need to introduce younger workers with fresh ideas and skills.” “We need new blood!” Do they remember who trained them in their jobs or whom it was that mentored them and made it possible to attain their current status?
You know...there need not be any poor people...if every multibillionaire - multimillionaire sponsored every poor person in the world by providing food and permanent shelter forever, they wouldn’t lose a dime! They already have more money than they’ll ever need in a lifetime. Their children for generations will never see a hungry day! Many of these people always talk about giving back to the community...”we gave to charity organizations”...”we belong to the 4-H Club”...is this the most viable and touchable way to do it? Think about it? If every person had a place to live, food in their refrigerators...do you think there would be a need to commit a crime? Yeah, there will probably be criminals...but the majority of people just want to live! They want to have a place to call their own...they want to be able to eat on a daily basis...and to live in peace. If every rich person gave a person who has nothing, a house and a food source...that is truly giving back to the community. The thing is, greed and control has a way of destroying what GOD has intended for his people. I don’t understand why people need to feel better than others...have more than others...feel the need to control and/or enslave others...why is it rich people cannot share the wealth? Many of them prospered on the backs of others.
“View My Resume and Qualifications and Tell Me That I am Not Able to Perform the Job at Hand!” What in the hell does my credit record have to do with the performance of career duties? Did you not think that something drastic happened in my life to cause a bad credit history? Did you not think that illness or the separation from employment had something to do with a less than perfect credit history? Do you think that people like me wish to remain indebted? What are/were you thinking when you see my credentials? The sacrifices, determination, and hard work that it took in order to get a better job to sustain my family, pay my legitimate bills/debts, and live a better life? Everyone cannot be an entrepreneur, albeit we all are when we barter our services to employers, companies, and corporations that require and/or have need of our skills and labor! Would you not wish to see a better country...a better world?
Long ago, chaos ruled the world. Peace and happiness was nowhere to be found.
After the boy became a man, a Rabbi, one of the elders present when the man was a boy of twelve, recalled the question and answer meeting. He recalled the statement that was made of this man when he was a boy. "I am about my fathers' business." "I am the son of God." The healing of the sick and bringing sight to the sightless were among some of the deeds that he was said to have accomplished. The man met his demise with mistrust, envy, jealousy, fear of progress in the right direction, and betrayal. He brought peace to the heart, soul, and mind with "just words."
Today there is chaos, wars, starvation, greed, envy, betrayal and mistrust among the populace and the nations of the world. It is said by many, the prophet shall surely return to this world.
There is a young man, today, that has moved many hearts, minds, and the spirit of many. This young man continues to move the mind and heart with "just words." He has been accused of using "just words" that promise to deliver peace and happiness to the world. Many would not agree with such men.
Yahshua, Mahatma Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King, and many other men of peace, that were sacrificed for the good of the many, accomplished deeds with "just words."
Fritz Lang: "Metropolis 1923"
Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, became flesh and blood and dwelt on earth to bring salvation to Israel and all Gentiles later to be joined with her. In Hebrew, the word for salvation or saves is SHUA. That is why the angel told Joseph, "she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Yahshua, for it is He who will save His people from their sins" (Mt 1:21). ...
Jesus descended from the line of Shem; His lineage from Noah through Abraham is shown in Genesis 11:10-27 and Luke 3:34-38: Noah, Shem, Arphaxad, Cainan, Salah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug, Nahor, Terah, Abram a.k.a Abraham.
Jesus' human paternal genealogy after David, mainly as shown in Matthew is: [7] Solomon (1Ch 3:5), Rehoboam, Abijah, [8] Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, [9] Uzziah (Ahaziah 1Ch 3:11), Joash (1Ch3: 11), Amaziah (1Ch3: 12), Azariah (1Ch3: 12), [Matt 9] Jotham, Ahaz, [10] Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon, [11] Josiah, [12] Jeconiah, Shealtiel, [13] Zerubbabel, Abiud, Eliakim, [14] Azor, Zadok, Akim, [15] Eliud, Eleazar, Matthan, [16] Jacob, Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus.
Jesus' maternal genealogy after David, as shown in Luke 3:23-31: Nathan (1Ch 3:5), Mattatha, Menna, [31] Melea, Eliakim, Jonam, Joseph, Judah, [30] Simeon, Levi, Matthat, Jorim, Eliezer, [29] Joshua, Er, Elmadam, Cosam, Addi, [28] Melki, Neri, Shealtiel, Zerubbabel, Rhesa, [27] Joanan, Joda, Josech, Semein, Mattathias, [26] Maath, Naggai, Esli, Nahum, Amos, [25] Mattathias, Joseph, Jannai, Melki, Levi, [24] Matthat, Heli, Joseph, Jesus.
The Twelve Tribes of Israel:
Jacob fathered 12 sons. They are the ancestors of the tribes of Israel, and the ones for whom the tribes are named. Each occupied a separate territory (except the tribe of Levi, which was set apart to serve in the Holy Temple). One of the important results of the end-time events that lead to the return of the Messiah is the reunification of the "lost tribes" of Israel/Ephraim with their brethren. "All of Israel" (the entire twelve tribes) cannot be saved unless they are all brought back into a unity (echad). It is necessary for those of Israel who are "lost" among the nations (Ephraim, the "fullness of the gentiles") to come back in, and only then can this happen. This is the point of the "mystery" of Romans 11:25.
A great teacher appears once in a while. Several centuries may pass by without the advent of such a one. That by which he is known is his life. He first lives and then tells others how they, man live likewise. Such a teacher was Gandhi. Gandhi's life was rooted in India's religious tradition with its emphasis on a passionate search for truth, a profound reverence for life, the ideal of non-attachment and the readiness to sacrifice all for the knowledge of God.
He lived his whole life in the perpetual quest of truth: 'I live and move and have my being in the pursuit of this goal.’ A life which has no roots, which is lacking in depth of background is a superficial one. There are some who assume that when we see what is fight we will do it. It is not so. Even when we know what is right it does not follow that we will choose and do right. We are overborne by powerful impulses and do wrong and betray the light in us. 'In our present state we are, according to the Hindu doctrine, only partly human; the lower part of us is still animal; only the conquest of our lower instincts by love can slay the animal in us.' It is by a process of trial and error, self-search and austere discipline that the human being moves step by painful step along the road to fulfillment.
God is the common bond that unites all human beings. To break this bond even with our greatest enemy is to tear God Himself to pieces· there is humanity even in the most wicked. The dignity of man requires obedience to a higher law-to the strength of the spirit.’ Gandhi was the first in human history to extend the principle of non-violence from the individual to the social and political plane. He entered politics for the purpose of experimenting with non-violence and establishing its validity. 'Some friends have told me that truth and non-violence have no place in politics and worldly affairs. I do not agree. I have no use for them as a means of individual salvation. 'For me, politics bereft of religion are absolute dirt, ever to be shunned. Politics concerns nations and that which concerns the Welfare of nations must be one of the concerns of a man who is religiously inclined, in other words, a seeker after God and Truth. For me God and Truth are convertible terms, and if anyone told me that God was a God of untruth or a God of torture I would decline to worship Him.
Therefore, in politics also we have to establish the Kingdom of Heaven.' We must hate the sin but not the sinner. 'For me patriotism is the same as humanity. I am patriotic because I am human and humane. In the present nuclear context, if we wish to save the world, we should adopt the principles of non-violence. "Unless now the world adopt non-violence, it will spell certain suicide for mankind".' In any future conflict we cannot be certain that neither side will deliberately use nuclear weapons. We have the power to destroy in one blinding flash alt that we have carefully built up across the centuries by our endeavor and sacrifice.
By a campaign of propaganda we condition men's minds for nuclear warfare. Provocative remarks fly about freely. We use aggression even in words; harsh judgments, ill will, anger, are all insidious forms of violence. We live in an age, which is aware of its own defeat and moral coarsening, an age in which old certainties are breaking down; the familiar patterns are tilting and cracking. There is increasing intolerance and embitterment. The creative flame that kindled the great human society is languishing. He who wrongs no one fears no one. He has nothing to hide and so is fearless. He looks everyone in the face. His step is firm, his body upright, and his words are direct and straight. Plato said long ago: 'There always are in the world a few inspired men whose acquaintance is beyond price.'
Gandhi's Talisman:
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away." One of the last notes left behind by Gandhi in 1948, expressing his deepest social thought.

The man was a "Drum Major" for "Love and Peace". He requested that no mention of his awards and honors be made at his funeral, but that it be said that he tried to "feed the hungry," "clothe the naked," "be right on the (Vietnam) war question" and "love and serve humanity."Dr. Martin Luther King has been reduced to what the Rev. Michael Eric Dyson of DePaul University calls a “safe Negro,” a romantic dreamer who doesn’t make White people uncomfortable. In his book “I May Not Get There With You,” Dyson explains that King was much more than a dreamer. The real King, according to Dyson, was far more radical than the one served for holiday dining on the third Monday in January. America wants, as it did in King’s day, to maintain social order. Schools lead the charge by teaching a mild-mannered history lesson that seeks to pacify instead of inspire. “They won’t teach about the revolutionary King who hung out with Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), loved Marcus Garvey and admired the Honorable Elijah Muhammad,” said community activist and King lecturer, Steve Cokely. And of course, not to mention, meetings and conversations with Malcolm X. “Schools will never teach that about Dr. King. It’s our responsibility to fill in the blanks for what Dr. King stood for. The essence of that is hidden in the reasons why he was assassinated.
Barack Obama, 46, the current United States Presidential Candidate.
His father, born of the "Motherland, Kenya - Africa." His mother, born of the "Heartland of the United States of America, Kansas." Barak serving as an Illinois state senator for several years, and in 2004 he won a seat representing that state in the U.S. Senate. His speech, the keynote address before the Democratic National Convention in June 2004 brought him national prominence. He is currently the leading contender for the nomination to represent the Democratic Party in the 2008 presidential election.
Obama's parents: Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black man from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white woman, from Wichita, Kansas. Barack Hussein Obama (Senator Obama's father) was born on the shores of Lake Victoria in Alego, Kenya. They met and married while they were both attending the University of Hawaii. Their son, also named Barack Hussein Obama was born on 4 August 1961 at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Senator Obama wrote of his mother's religious views:
My mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness. This isn't to say that she provided me with no religious instruction. In her mind, a working knowledge of the world's great religions was a necessary part of any well-rounded education. In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology. On Easter or Christmas Day my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. But I was made to understand that such religious samplings required no sustained commitment on my part. Religion was an expression of human culture, she would explain, not its wellspring, just one of the many ways — and not necessarily the best way — that man attempted to control the unknowable and understand the deeper truths about our lives.
In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist she would become; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well. In his 2006 book, The Audacity of Hope, Obama elaborated on his early schooling, explaining that he attended both Catholic and Muslim schools in Indonesia — not out of any particular religious affiliation, but because his mother wanted him to obtain the best education possible under the circumstances: During the five years that we would live with my stepfather in Indonesia, I was sent first to a neighborhood Catholic school and then to a predominantly Muslim school; in both cases, my mother was less concerned with me learning the catechism or puzzling out the meaning of the muezzin's call to evening prayer than she was with whether I was properly learning my multiplication tables.
At the time of his death, my father remained a myth to me, both more and less than a man. He had left Hawaii back in 1963, when I was only two years old, so that as a child I knew him only through the stories that my mother and grandparents told. (Barrack’s only other childhood contact with his father occurred when he was eleven years old, and his father came to visit Hawaii for a month at Christmastime. The elder Obama died when Barack Jr. was twenty-one years old.) The beginnings of Obama's relationship with the church were described in an April 2004
Obama is unapologetic in saying he has a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ." As a sign of that relationship, he says, he walked down the aisle of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ in response to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's altar call one Sunday morning about 16 years ago. It began in 1985, when he came to Chicago as a $13,000-a-year community organizer, working with a number of African-American churches in the Roseland, West Pullman and Altgeld Gardens neighborhoods that were trying to deal with the devastation caused by shuttered steel plants. "I started working with both the ministers and the lay people in these churches on issues like creating job-training programs, or after-school programs for youth, or making sure that city services were fairly allocated to underserved communities," he says. "And it was in those places where I think what had been more of an intellectual view of religion deepened. "I became much more familiar with the ongoing tradition of the historic black church and its importance in the community. And the power of that culture to give people strength in very difficult circumstances, and the power of that church to give people courage against great odds. And it moved me deeply."
Who are the men of peace? Are they the men that Yahweh has degreed to lead the people of the world? Is peace such a dangerous tool?
Why is more power and control over the lives and minds of the masses, the land, and natural resources of the world so desperately sought after by the few people who currently represent the "powers that Be?"
