Florida people: here is a great new way to make a huge diffence in this campaign. Make phone calls to voters in the early states:
The National Call Team is comprised of hundreds of supporters across the country who are dedicated to making at least 100 phone calls each week on behalf of the campaign. By committing to make calls every week, they play a critical role by spreading the word on important volunteer opportunities, community events and letting folks know when Barack is coming to their neighborhood. Last month we were able to make over 28,000 calls and our goal is to double our impact during the month of October. When your volunteers join the National Call Team they will receive a call from us welcoming them to the group and we will let them know how they can get started by using the phone banking tool on their My.BarackObama dashboard. Our Team receives e-mail updates about the calling campaigns that are in progress and we will have weekly conference calls as well. Your volunteers can sign up here: http://my.barackobama.com/callteam
Now is the time to make a difference. You have the power to make it happen.

Obama's health-care plan more sensible than Hillary's
Sen. Hillary Clinton's proposal to solve the health-care crisis by mandating a government-run program has caused concern all across America for good reason ("System's ills spur divergent diagnoses," Sept. 19). Her plan would take away individuals' right to choose what kind of health insurance they want or to choose none at all. And it would cost taxpayers untold millions.
The plan that Sen. Barack Obama proposed in the spring essentially would leave in place the current private insurance plan for those like me who want to continue to pay for private insurance. But it would fill in the gaps to provide health care to the working poor who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but can't afford the premiums on private insurance. This includes many of the millions of uninsured who have preexisting conditions that prevent them from getting private insurance.
Sen. Obama's plan strikes a compromise by addressing the most critical needs, such as making sure children are covered, but without taking away our right to choose. On this issue, like so many others, Sen. Obama just makes more sense. He has my vote.

We plan to hold a meeting the week of June 18th. Send an email to let us know what days are better for you - Thursday evening?? Also, email your suggestions on where to hold meeting. Previous venues include O'Shea's on Clematis, Brewzzi at CityPlace and Off the Vine in the Gardens.
If you want to be part of the effort to bring Michelle Obama here for the July 18th event, be sure to attend the Boynton Beach breakfast meeting Thursday. Details in the Events box.
Yes WE CAN!! Join the Palm Beach Supporters of Obama group at a lunch meeting on Tuesday, May 22nd at Brewzzi in CityPlace. You can click on the event at right to RSVP and let us know if you can make it. Even if you can't make it, please RSVP anyway and let us know if there is a better time/place for us to schedule our next meeting -- we want to make sure everyone has a shot at making these meetings.
Topics will include Michelle Obama's upcoming visit to Palm Beach County in July (YES, IT'S TRUE!) and details about the Florida campaign effort from committee member Bryan Miller (who also happens to be a candidate for Florida House district 83). Bryan will explain for us how the decision to move up Florida's primary will affect the Obama campaign here, and other important campaign news.
Another super important topic will be our "TAKE FIVE" effort to have every member of the group find 5 people to register to vote in the Democratic primary -- either new voters or those who need to switch to the party from independent or republican. You'll be surprised at the people who aren't registered to vote Democratic -- people who've just moved here or just plain haven't gotten around to it. We are also planning some key voter registration drives in the summer and especially in the fall.
Join us for lunch and share your enthusiasm for Barack Obama. Hope to see you there.

Sunfest is the largest street music festival in the South! It's happening here on the waterfront in West Palm Beach this weekend. We are still finalizing some details for having volunteers involved in meeting people at Sunfest. If we can get a table set up, we will let you know. (Watch for Events on the Palm Beach Supporters group page.) Otherwise, pencil in Saturday night at Sunfest around 6 for an impromptu Obama Supporters get-together there. But even if you're just going to enjoy all the music and festival celebration, wear your Obama '08! t-shirt, or a button or sticker.
Keep in mind that right now the campaign is really focused on fundraising still here in Florida. We are such an important state, but as jaded as it sounds, bringing in money for the Obama campaign is really the top priority. It was so impressive that Sen. Obama got donations from OVER 100,000 people during the first quarter. Let's try to top that this quarter - if everyone in the Palm Beach Supporters group got just five people to give $5, $10, or $20, imagine how that would add up. When a new person gets to know Barack, and gives even $5 to the campaign, she is invested in the outcome. She feels she now owns a piece of this campaign - she connects with Barack and with his vision for a More Perfect Union.
Okay, 'nuf preachin. Let's get out there and have some fun. Lunch meeting at Crazy Buffet coming up on May 17th to discuss more strategy and events. Be there, Aloha.
Tonight's Palm Beach Supporters of Obama meeting at O'Shea's was intimate, but productive! We talked about the need to put together a short range plan and a long range plan for the primary campaign. We started planning for a "voter registration/switch to the Democratic party in time for the primary" drive. More on that on the blogs, but keep in mind we're going to ask everyone in the group to try and find two people who either haven't registered or need to switch from Independent or Republican to Democrat by January 1st so they can vote for Barack Obama in the Florida primary election.
We're asking you to think about where you live and work and where might be a better location for a meeting. Also, would you like to see meetings at lunchtime or after work? Once a month, or every other week? You tell us what works for you and we will try to put together some meetings that most group members can make.
Keep the positive things going for Senator Obama and keep your eye on the Palm Beach Supporters group blog and event list. If you haven't signed up yet and you live or work in Palm Beach County, please join the group and help us get the "skinny kid with a funny name" from Illinois elected president!

Sen. Obama visits us here in West Palm Beach on Sunday, March 25th. It is CRITICAL that we get the word out to all friends and family about this important fundraising event for Senator Obama. This is our chance to show our support here in South Florida for the man who is poised to lead our country back to greatness. Your attendance at this event will show the other candidates (Republicans and Democrats), and the world, just how much you believe in his candidacy. Please take a moment to send an email or two, jot down the Miami office phone number to give to your friends and encourage them to rsvp for this important event - the first major appearance in South Florida since Sen. Obama declared he is running for president.

This will be an exciting event and the Senator's first public appearance in Florida since declaring his candidacy for the presidency. Let's help him show the world just how much support he has!
If you need to send a check rather than rsvp'ing with a credit card, please email me for details at tobyandlauren@earthlink.net. Hope to see you all here on the 25th!
PS There a few other smaller events scheduled for significant donors. Please reply if you are interested in attending one of those as well.
I have confirmed that Sen. Obama will be here on Sunday, March 25th from noon to 3 at the Kravis Center. This is a $100 per person fundraiser reception being hosted by the Democratic Professionals Council of Palm Beach County. They should have details up on their website, www.democraticprofessionalscouncil.org very soon. I'll post more details too as I learn more about the event.
This is a great chance to hear Sen. Obama speak and also help raise some money for the campaign. Please help us get the word out about this one so we can pack the Kravis Center with chants of Run! Obama! Run!
For those of you on the South Florida list who live in Palm Beach County, be sure to check out our group, Palm Beach Supporters of Obama - details on our first informal get together are posted there.
Hold on - we're in for quite a ride!
