Barack will take office by swearing to uphold the Constitution. During the Bush administration I often wondered if Bush/Cheney and company had ever read it. In honor of President #44 and in advance of Jan 20, let's all reread the Constitution. It's not just a sheet of paper. Thank goodness we elected someone who has a deep respect for it. Change is coming in 5 days!
This Saturday--the 17th--Obama is to hold an event in Philly, board the train, and pick up Biden in Wilmington, DE. I want to go either to Philly or Wilmington to see it--but I can't find any details on pic2009.com or anywhere. Does anyone have any details? What time/what exact place are these events?
Many thanks!
The National Day of Service (I think that's the name) that Barack has asked us all to participate in the day before his inauguration should become an annual event. I'd like to see it signed into legislation. It would be a great way for all of us fellow citizens to give back to our country--and to perpetually celebrate the historic presidency of Barack Obama who is already bringing us the change we need.
Community service shouldn't be something that only some people do sometimes: It should be an expectation of all citizens. It should become a habit that we instill in ourselves and in future generations.
No present this holiday season that any of us receive will compare to the gift that will keep on giving for the next four--make that, eight--years: Barack Obama. He is an extraordinary leader who will navigate us through these turbulent times, help bring the country together and help restore our standing around the world.
Happy Holidays!
Okay, so I may have some New Year's Resolutions, too, but this year I thought it would be good to make some "New Administration Resolutions."
For example, I was inspired by seeing the Obama family work at a church's food bank just before Thanksgiving. So I plan to bring food every month to our church which distributes it to a food bank. The donation baskets are always at the entrances to our church, but somehow I'm always too busy or too forgetful to do something that's simple and yet will help people.
I plan to continue to log onto MyBo to find out how I can help the new administration get legislation passed.
This is just for starters.
I wonder if any of you might have "New Administration Resolutions." I'd be interested in hearing them and getting ideas.
Despite the daily digest of bad news, we have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving: Come January 20th, we'll be in good hands.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
This stand for something like the "National Youth Assistance" (I know it's "National Youth." Not sure about the last word.) It put students to work doing things like working at the local library.
Let's try this one again!
it's community service; it's national service. It teaches good values and teaches about giving back and not taking the country for granted. It gets young people thinking about making sacrifices and contributing to the common good.
Congress MUST immediately begin to work a full five days a week. I'm appalled that in recent years our representatives and senators have typically worked only three days a week, scheduling votes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The rest of us hard-working Americans work five days a week--that's why we get things done. Our elected officials, to state the obvious, should be held to the same standard. How can our represenatives and senators work part-time when our nation's overwhelming problems require full-time attention? It's outrageous. I
t's no wonder that Congress hasn't been getting things done. The three-hour, three-martini lunch in corporate America is gone--and the three-day congressional work week should immediately become a thing of the past, too.
I just saw this great bumper sticker:
1/20/09 - End of an Error
This is the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and things are just getting worse. I think programs like the CCC and WPA should be reinstated. These two programs, for example, gave the country tangible and lasting "products" of great value (and, in many cases, great beauty)--and gave lots of people jobs and replaced despair with a sense of purpose.. These programs were win-win. In addition, the writing program from the Depression (I forget what it was called) produced great works by Studs Terkel. He's a native son of Chicago just like our president-elect.
What do you think? Have you heard if programs like these are being discussed?
The Obama-Biden transition is the first to not be funded by lobbyists and special interests. Again, Obama is making history and not letting the voices of the American people get drowned out--or our interests hijacked by wealthy executives. So, as a grassroots supporter of Obama, I decided it was imperative to give a donation to his transition. Economic times are very tough, but we can all afford $5.
Won't you join me in donating $5, too?

I took the "Share Your Feedback" survey to heart and put a lot of thought into my answers.
Even with only 62 days left to get a team in place to tackle the towering problems America faces, the Obama staff has once again reminded me why I support Barack: He listens to all of us. Yes, he's surrounded by the best and the brightest, but he also solicits the ideas of us grassroots minions. Maybe one of us has something really cool or innovative that he'll implement.
The survey also made me feel connected to a vast effort for the greater good. And it made me feel like I'm making a difference.
Thanks Barack for asking and for giving each and every one of us the opportunity to make a difference.
In case you missed it, here's the link for the president-elect's first radio address:

I still have to pinch myself that the extraordinary leader and listener who I supported--and who I feel will be one of the best presidents in history--is our president-elect. It restores my faith in the American people--we chose him!
I was so excited to watch Pres.-Elect Obama's first press conference. The current president hardly ever gives press conferences or takes questions from reporters. Although it was held in a Chicago hotel, this press conference signals that change has already come to Washington. The American people will once again be able to communicate directly with the president. What a beautiful thing.
Barack was presidential. He explained himself clearly, spelling out his plans and ideas in four-point (or so) answers that were consistent with what he said on the campaign. In addition he was was genuinely personable and warm and humorous (asking about the reporter's hurt arm, talking about the puppy his girls will be getting, etc.).
He will be an extraordinary president who will put the country back on track and accomplish great things. And FINALLY the first family will be the "real deal."
I look forward to the next four--I mean, eight--years.
As I cherish the joy and pride of this transformational moment in our nation's history and in the lives of each and every one of us, I also want to ask President-Elect Obama: How can we help?
President-Elect Obama has called on us to come together, make sacrifices, and give back to our wonderful country. So let's get started.
For example, during the campaign "Obama Works" did community service projects--like cleaning up the litter in parks--in Obama's name. That's just a beginning. Wouldn't it be great if Obama Works became widespread and frequent? Perhaps the administration could set "Obama Works" goals for each voting district--i.e., one project before inauguration, an additional project in the first year of Obama's presidency, and so on.
There's so much more we can do, too, on so many levels--including urging our representatives in Congress to support the Obama administration's initiatives.
We should keep our grassroots movement strong, active, and, most importantly, growing. We should transition this web site/online community from helping with the campaign to helping our country.
Because united we stand, united we can accomplish great things. Let's get to it!
Any ideas?
President-elect Barack Obama (oh, how great that sounds!) just finished his unifying and rousing speech. He is a leader who leads by example, who asks us to give back to our country, and who sees our best days ahead. You inspire me.
President-elect Obama: You have my support and I will do what I can to support you and your administration.
I can't wait to see your adorable children and talented, loving wife as the first family in the White House--along with the puppy you promised your girls.
God bless the president-elect and God bless America.
This is it, folks. The day we've been waiting for. I got up early and was the first to vote in my district (a thrill, for sure) for the next president of the United States. After giving my children breakfast, I'm now going to work at a call center to GOTV.
Let's all do our part today.
YES WE CAN!
This is the moment we've been waiting for!
I plan to get up early and get in line to vote when the polling place opens. My voice is going to be heard! Then my parents are babysitting all day while I work the phones at a local GOTV call center.
It's going to be great day!
Yes we can if we stand united and work until the polls close.
FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!
I've spent the evening at home searching for voter's phone numbers on switchboard.com and whitepages.com to update voter registration logs with missing phone numbers. I'm searching online AND updating the records online. It's tedious but tremendously important for getting out the vote.
So if you're shy about making calls--or, like me, have to volunteer from home after my kids are in bed--contact your local grassroots group. It takes only a few minutes to get trained.
HELP GOTV!!
