I am increasingly hearing comments by the media that Obama supporters have become increasingly negative and divisive in the language they use regarding this race. I find this troubling, given that the message of this campaign has been unity and hope... that we "can disagree without being diagreeable."
Despite the veracity of any statement regarding whose supporters are more negative, when the media portrays us this way, we all lose. I urge all of my fellow Obamaniacs to stay positive and to remember that we all represent a little slice of this campaign. If being negative or name-calling hurts our candidate, it's absolutley not worth the little bit of satisfaction it may have given you when you wrote it.
I know several of my fellow Tennesseans feel somewhat at a loss for what to do in order to continue assisting with the Obama campaign as it moves away from the South and into the major upcoming primaries.
I urge you ALL to continue to do what you can to help! Use the tools on this website to call voters and help them understand why Barack Obama is the best choice for this country.
Find an office that close-ish in an upcoming state (both OH and TX are reasonably close, depending on where you are in the state) and go help out there.
Most importantly, call everyone you know in ANY upcoming state and make sure they have the best introduction to Barack Obama possible. Answer policy questions, show them speeches, show the "Yes We Can" video... whatever it takes. Then make sure they're planning on voting and encourage them to share their enthusiasm with neighbors and friends.
"This is what change looks like when it happens from the bottom up!"
We need to act as if this is Iowa all over again... we have no results, we have no expectations, but whoever wins this contest will have a large air of legitimacy. Let's make sure it's us!
Yes! We! Can!
In the face of Obama's convincing sweep of the 5 weekend contests, I've been reminded of just a few weeks ago... during and after the New Hampshire contest, when I felt like all was lost.
I remember watching the returns come in, dumbfounded at what was happening.
I remember thinking "How can this be over before it's even beginning?"
And then I remember watching Obama's speech that evening. I remember when he began his anthem of "Yes We Can!" and I remember jumping up in down in my living room and pumping my fist in the air with tears streaming down my face.
Even in defeat, there was hope.
And now, today, look at where we are.
5 Contests in 2 days. A growing delegate lead. Momentum like some would never have believed.
No Blind Optimism, but hope and hard work.
In short, Yes! We! Can!
Cookeville had its first canvass today, and I must say, it was quite a success! We have new people in our group, and we got a great deal of positive response from the houses we visited. We're energized here, and ready to ride this wave of excitement through our Super Tuesday primary.
In other news, the momentum grows in New Hampshire! As much as I hesitate to quote Fox News, I could not resist when I read this article... I absolutely had to share.
Fired Up! Ready to Go!
