RAGBRAI!!!

If you have never been to RAGBRAI, you are definitely missing out! RAGBRAI, or Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa is a yearly event in which thousands of individuals from all over the country meet in Iowa to bike across the state. Riders travel to Iowa from both coasts and even across oceans to bike the beautiful and tranquil landscape.
Some RAGBRAI riders bike for a cause. We saw people riding for cancer awareness, including Lance Armstrong, and bikers riding for churches and different charitable organizations. We also saw many who were riding for change – wearing Obama ’08 buttons, stickers, and T-shirts, and telling other riders about their desire for a better America.
Many of these Obama riders, as well as other riders, stopped by the Obama office in Spencer for Root Beer Floats, or “Hope Floats” as some riders called them, at our Office Block Party. Others waited until we arrived at the fairgrounds and campgrounds to meet us and talk about issues they were concerned about or just express how much they liked Senator Obama’s vision for the future. Clad in homemade Obama hats and a full length dress covered in Obama buttons, we were hard to miss.
We took RAGBRAI by storm, spreading Barack’s message of change as well as talking with riders about issues that were important to them such as ending the Iraq war and health-care reform, specifically cancer research.
By the end of the day, we had passed out a lot of bumper stickers for riders to put on their bikes, a lot of buttons for jerseys, signed up a lot of supporters to contact after a few days of post-RAGBRAI rest, and shared Barack’s vision with people from across the country about what we can do to change our politics and ultimately our world.
