A student abroad's interpretation of Obama and his campaign back home
Why Obama?

Barack Obama is fast becoming the new opium of the masses, in America if not internationally. A media sensation, he has a charisma Americans born after the deaths of JFK and Martin Luther King had not imagined possible. Analysts rush to explain it as that we see Obama as the embodiment of the American Dream. Possibly, but today the American Dream is also on offer in most other first world countries, so it is doubtful that that explanation is entirely accurate. Everyone coincides that he is an inspiring public speaker. But is the truth behind Obamas popularity entirely as spiritual as some would have us think? Barack posses the rare attribute (rare among politicians, that is) of being likeable, of appearing sincere, something Hillary Clinton sorely lacks. Watching him on television, I get the feeling that if I was to meet him, I would like him, a feeling I share with other supporters of his who I communicate with. Today more than ever, politics is more a case of the politician in question appealing to people than his campaigns and ideas being deemed the best. Hillary has a strong campaign. McCain is likeable. They would have their work cut out for them in a presidential race. But the American who is ideal for the democratic candidacy is Barack, because he is very likeable along with possesing just as strong (if not stronger) a campaign as Clinton. That is why I plan to do everything I can to get others to join me in helping put Obama in the White House in 2009.
