But what about John McCain's health care plan? Some people may be aware that McCain wants to tax health insurance benefits but I think that most people don't understand just how bad John McCain's plans on health care are. We are talking health insurance anarchy....
In case you missed it on the main Barack Obama blog, check out the new "Don't Know Much" ad.
The ad features a nice tune that you probably will recognize. The retooled lyrics, on the other hand, get the message across loud and clear that we can not afford four more years of the same stupid economic policies. We can't afford four more years of a President that doesn't know much.
This is a true story. It really happened. To me.
The $50,000 is gone. It's just the tiniest of fractions of one of the greatest thefts in history. And I'm one of the lucky ones.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Winter Garden Sign Waving Event!
Thanks also to Orlando for Obama for guidance and signs.
We had a pretty good turnout. With very short notice, six people came out during working hours to show their support for Barack Obama and drum up some votes at the highly trafficked intersection in Winter Garden. Most of those who came out weren't old enough to vote but came out anyway to do what they could to support the best candidate. :)
Winter Garden and the surrounding area (Clermont, Ocoee, Windermere, etc.) will build on this event and will be ready to support the Democratic nominee -- Barack Obama. (If you live near Winter Garden, please make sure you are a member of Winter Garden for Obama so we can keep you informed about local efforts to support Barack Obama.)
Please if you haven't done so already -- vote today. Every vote counts.
If you live anywhere near Winter Garden, please attend the get out the vote sign waving event at the intersection of Daniels / Dillard and 50 / Colonial today.
Today, January 28th 2008 from 4 to 6 PM.
Please see the Winter Garden Sign Waving event listing for more details.
Don't tell anybody but Barack's got a secret. He's ahead. This thing hinges on delegates and momentum. You have to gain momentum at just the right time and you'll rack in the delegates. And guess what, Barack already is ahead in delegates won in the early states.
Check out this Slate article for more details.
Don't be fooled by the media reports about recent Clinton "wins". Senator Clinton has yet to win more pledged delegates than Barack Obama in any state.
Delegates decide who is nominated. Barack Obama leads with 38 pledged delegates. This despite Senator Clinton's barrage of subtle vicious devious attacks. (This is bound to have an effect on the final superdelegate count as well.)
We have absolutely no reason to be discouraged -- we are in the lead!
A Zogby Interactive survey released today clearly indicates that, in the general election, Barack will be the most electable of the top Democratic candidates. Clinton would lose to every one of the top 5 Republican candidates and Barack would win against every one of them!
We must get a Democrat in the White House. It's looking more and more like Hillary can not win the general election. We must let current Clinton supporters know, as politely as possible, that Barack is the Democratic candidate that is most likely to win the White House for the Democrats. He is also the one who can unite this country to address the challenges we face.
Congratulations to Dennis Kucinich for winning the DFA pulse poll. We'll get 'em next time.
Please read below for more about the DFA poll and some other interesting TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms).
It's been suggested that Attorney General nominee Mukasey wouldn’t say that waterboarding is torture because then we might need to prosecute those who have done it. Well, we should prosecute those who have tortured, and those who ordered it -- all the way up the chain of command.
With Mukasey apparently headed for confirmation, this round in our national debate over torture may be coming to end, but Barack’s leadership on this issue is an important part of his campaign. Barack has consistently been against torture. I’m glad he is challenging Hillary on her failure to clearly define her position on the issue. It may be time to argue against the embrace of torture by most of the Republican candidates.
But there is a bigger issue here. Through the politics of fear, this administration now has the power to legally kidnap people. As far as we know, this power isn’t being used against political dissidents like it has been in places like Iran and Nazi Germany – but that’s just as far as we know. The fact remains that this administration has carved out the same power for itself as the most brutal regimes in history, and once you legally kidnap someone, who knows what kind of torture is being performed.
Check out this review of campaign websites by Wired Magazine. They give this website top marks saying:
Addictive. You earn points for online activity, and a ticker reminds you that you're moving closer to becoming the ultimate Obama supporter. Just organize one more event or raise a few more bucks.
Congratulations to the people working behind the scenes.
I'd much rather discuss issues and ignore the polls but if people want to talk about polls here's one that should give Hillary Clinton supporters pause. A new Zogby international poll released yesterday asked "Whom would you NEVER vote for the President of the U.S.?" Well guess who tops the list? You guessed it. Half of likely voters would never vote for Hillary for president! Barack on the other hand did very well in the poll fairing better than all but two of the 16 other candidates listed.
How great it would be if we could have a national discussion of the issues, ignore the polls and vote for the candidate who best represents our views and hopes for America and the candidate who we feel is the best leader. But the reality is that polls influence pubic opinion like never before. Do we really want a Democratic nominee for President for whom half of American voters would never vote? Our country is already too divided. We certainly don't need such a divisive candidate and this latest poll calls into question the idea that Hillary is the most electable Democratic candidate in the general election despite her foreign policy pandering to the right.
(Thanks to Todd Smyth for sending a link to an article about this poll to Obama Rapid Response.)
In the past few days, everywhere I look (1, 2, 3, 4), it seems as if the Democratic Party's nomination for president already belongs to Hillary Clinton -- before a single vote has been cast!!!!
Well, here's the thing about the pundits and the media: they tend to write as if they are absolutely sure -- until they aren't. Then they write something else about which they are now absolutely sure.
So why does it matter what the media is saying? Well it can give people a false sense about the certainty of the predicted outcome. The danger is that sometimes the latest poll gets so much focus in the echo chamber of the media and the blogosphere that a transitory lead can somehow result in too many people actually believing that it's the final word on how the race is going to end up.
Well, this thing ain't over! Not by a long shot. But it's a wake up call for us supporters of Barack Obama. We must step up. Hillary has had a recent "surge" in campaign contributions. Help close the gap now! Also, now's a great time to buy a hat, t-shirt or bumper sticker. Let's all, one by one, bring Barack's name and campaign into the public eye like never before. Wear or drive Barack's message everywhere you go. Got hope? I sure do. Thanks to Barack.
We can have hope that we will find a way to end the war in Iraq in the best possible way and fight terrorism with every tool available -- not just military force. We can have hope that a sense of openness and decency can return to White House -- that America's real values can return to our nation. We can have hope but we must act now like never before.
Ed
I expected today's article in the New York Times titled "Obama Says Bush Not Solely to Blame", to be about Iraq and that those who voted for the war are partially to blame for the Iraq Problem. What I read was quite different and convinced me to finally donate to Barack's campaign for president.
The article is about a speech Barack gave in Cedar Rapids in which he outlines specifically how he will bring more openness and citizen participation to the White House. Some people say that Barack talks about change but doesn't give specific examples of how he will change things. How's this for change: "To make the government more accountable, Obama said he would post all non-emergency bills online for five days before he signed them into law, allowing Americans a chance to weigh in on the legislation. In addition, he said he would post all meetings between lobbyists and government agencies online."
And that's just the beginning. It's going to take some real commitment and new ideas to bring the people back to our democratic government. I believe Barack Obama is just the man to do just that.
