I am one of those women who all too often judges a man by the woman he married. And because Barack married Michelle, I know that he could not be an insecure man (she is super intelligent, and a strong woman, in her own right.) Because he married her, I see that he could not be superficial (she is tall; she is dark; and while she is beautiful, she is not your standard Hollywood beauty; and she was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth).
If I had never read a single piece of literature about him, I would have likely supported him, and voted for him anyway, just because he married Michelle.
Just a couple of hours ago, I, along with several fellows, and a couple of volunteers, went to this economically stricken area in Columbus, Ga. We did pretty well with registrations. However, we met a few suspcious types, but, all in all, people were willing to register or they had already registered. Along the way, I met a beautiful, intelligent six (6) year old girl, who was ecstatic about my pink Obama cap. She told me how she really liked Obama; that she had seen him on tv the other day when he was in Atlanta, GA, (Powder Springs, actually) and that she wanted to vote, too. (She referred to our registration efforts as voting.) When she found out that I was amid the crowd in Powder Springs, GA on Tuesday, she wanted to know how close did I get to him, along with a host of other questions and comments that fascinated me, given that she was only six (6) years old, and to be honest, deprived. We forget sometimes that God passed out intelligence and forsight in the ghetto, too. I did not meet her parents, but they ought to be proud for the gift they have in her.
About an hour later, she saw me walking around again. It was beginning to rain. She hollered out, "you still gonna keep voting in the rain?" "Yeah, I said, but we would be leaving soon."
"What will this little girl be someday?", I thought. How is it that she has such an interest in this process. She is poor, but she is rich. She is the future. She is America, and someday this child will have so much more hope, if Barack Obama becomes president.
When I go to this website and see the mix of pictures, voices of various Ameicans supporting the Senator with such zeal, consisting of every race, creed, color, and class, I am reminded of the awesome beuty of this country. And it makes me so proud to be an American.
Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan, political son and father, respecively, along with the usual gang of blood thirsty pundits on FOX looked liked reptiles after a huge feeding when discussing the Pa vote. Their narrow, scaled filled eyes keep them from properly analyzing anything or anyone who does not look, talk, and act like them.
Despite the campaign's money, how do you ignore the Clinton Brand, 100 mayors, including, the mayors of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Then, to top it off, her father hails from the area. Alas, Reverend Wright, San Francisco's "much ado about nothing" comments, the debate, the piling on of negative pundits, Sean Hannity, being chief were just a part of the past 6-7 weeks.
Call it a spin if you will, but he still did well under the circumstances. It was not shameful. Some huge gaps were closed. I hope that the volunteers and staffers in Pennsylvania know that they did an excellent job, and that their efforts were not in vain.
The way that I see things, under these circumstances, Obama still won Pa!
So much has happened over the last few weeks. What I have become convinced of even more so, is that despite everything, Barack Obama is going to be the next president of the United States. And now, he is in Pennsylvania, the state whereby the Clintons have it nipped and sewn up. at least, according to the pundits.
Because there is nothing you can really guage about this election season, l I feel that it is still possible for Barack to pull off a win there. Yes, I am back to my "anything is possible with God" belief, thank God. Depression, afterall, hurts.
After looking at the Huckabee interview on Morning Joe back on 3/19, I am inclined to believe that there are other people like Huckabee who will not make so much out of the Reverend Wright thing. And, the bottom like is that if even if Barack does not win PA, it will not be a shameful lost. He will come away with a good delegate count.
I do not feel good about Pa,There seems to be "a tad" of enthusiam for Senator Clinton there. I am hoping still that despite all of the negativity of late, that once this stream of ugliness is over, that the campaign will be regenerated soon, and that Barack will close the gap in the Keystone State.
Despite everything this campaign has decided that it will not do anything to win. That will make victory all the more sweeter.
No matter what, I am convinced that Senator Obama will be in the White House this time next year.
I am so amused when I hear opponents and/or pundits give unsolicited advice to Senator Obama's campaign. He does not need to belittle himself by addressing all of this "silly rabbit stuff".
Let his opponents and the pundits talk about the Senator's kindergarden and third grade essays. Let them belittle his mutli-cultural experiences since his youth. After all one has dug deep, long, and hard when goes this far, and this is all you come up with.
I am so glad that they subjected the Senator to such an intense investigation. The Senator may end up being be the cleanest president we have had since Abe Lincoln.
If Senator Obama does not win South Carolina, it will not be a reflection on the Senator. It will be a reflection on far too many people still suffering from "post truamatic stress slave disorder."
Many within white America are receptive to the notion of a black president, so long as he is a man of character. I do hope that the majority of black South Carolineans are ready, and that they will not be further deceived by people who are only interested in friendships and fat pockets.
Kudos to Jerome Gray, longtime field director of the Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC). He is a strong man, and a very wise one to separate himself from the majority of the ADC members who have chosen to go the path of the unwise.
If Mr. Joe Reed or state rep. Alvin Holmes said the ADC made the right move in supporting Senator Clinton, or mimized Senator Obama, because of his youth, or white racism in America, it is just sad and pitiful. If that is the case, I think people in the great State of Alabama should reevaluate him come election time.
One of the most amazing things to see in this current presidential race are African Americans who fear a successful Barack candidacy, because of their perception of the degree of white Ameica's racism. Some say white people will not vote for a black man; that some deranged white person will kill him, and then, there are those who say that it would be better to have Senator Clinton as the democratic nominee, because she has a greater chance of winning the general election.
For too long, African Americans have served as nothing more than street walkers for the democratic party. In reality, from a historical perspective, things have not faired particularly worse or better for any group of citizens, simply because of what paty is in office. What has happened in the past is the visual evidence of a few more "negroes" with fat cat federal and state jobs. Perhaps a few others snare some pretty substantial contract, but generally, it ends up being a "friends and family plan" in those scenarios. And, in the end, it still ends up being the same old tired politics.
An Obama presidency might mean that a quite a few in Washington will be out of jobs or wished the day they had never spoken openly on their superficial objections to Senator Obama. All of the malarkey about his youth, his lack of experience; not being "black enough" are nothing to many of us. I know that some of these folks just love their friends, the Clintons. They see it as a two for one sale. I say, you have not paid any attention to Senator Obama and his wife, because otherwise, you would have to know that you are getting a fair better deal with them. However, when you are in someone else's pockets, perhaps, it causes the worst conflict of all.
When I see and hear some of these reporters, politicos, and the like on television, I am equally amazed. I heard several of these folks question Oprah Winfrey's wisdom for supporting the ;Senator. Some of have even questioned whether she understands the league she is playing in now. They minimize the Senator's youth; his un-electability; and his experience. I smile, because I get a clearer picture of an Obama presidency.
I thank God that I am an American. I see growth in this Country. Next year, I am counting on most Americans to vote in a Martian if they believe s/he will make their lives and their country better.
One's character is far more important to me than one's longevity on this earth; being an experienced politician, or anything else for that matter. Obama is not a novice, he is a threat. Thank God that "politics as usual" is about to be buried.
Barack is absolutely the best thing this country has produced in a presidential candidate in a long time. I have nothing against Hillary Clinton, and, if she is "it" at the end of the day, I may very well support her, but right now, the way I see it, she and her husband, along with the Bushes, should leave Washington, and go home. And, frankly, if Huckaby is it for the Republicans, she might not get my vote, then.
Some of the media people out there are simply frightened to report the true intensity of Barack's campaign. It is a far stronger campaign than anyone imagined, including myself. This man can win, and I believe he will, despite all of the naysayers. For the first time in my life, I have come to believe that most Americans are good, decent people who want the best for the family and this country. Attorney Willie Gary, one of the "so called" African American Men" for Hillary, claims that God is involved in Hillary's candidacy. I know God, too, and say He is involved in Barack's candidacy, as well.
I do not have a lot of money, but I am one committed soul when I volunteer for someone, and I am going to do all I can as a plain old average America to get him in office.
