Dear Editors:
I am extremely disturbed by the obvious stupidity of the article "The Obama Bargain" by Shelby Stelle. It is clear the WSJ has decided to take upon itself the racist views of this imbecile. I could care less about the COLOR of Mr. Obama - it is because of his MESSAGE that the people have gravitated to him. Yes, we look at the messenger and are "surprised" that he is an attractive relatively young professor and advocate for the poor. To put this false garbage on your website makes the Stelle opinion valid and concurred by your paper.
I find this absurd reporting degrading of our society and to my intellect as an American citizen. It is this kind of racial nonsense that has set our patriots on the war path against vermin like your young Stanford fellow. This person has not quoted one supporter of Mr. Obama, but bases his opinion on his own doubt that Americans are intelligent enough to listen and choose a president over the issues and his own deep-set prejudices. Where is the "proof" that backs up this ludicrous article? Where are the documented interviews? There are none - and you place this hack journalism on the cover of your opinion page.
If you'd like to know why we chose a man like Mr. Obama just ask. Most of us are educated enough to tell you, like in the case of Mr. Derrick Ashong. For my case in point, I will include a letter that I wrote to every newspaper in PA, IN, and NC.
Why I Want Barack Obama For President - One American's View by...
I think it is important to point out the reasons many of us are supporting Barack Obama for President. Senator Obama is a unifying figure that has not been seen by our great nation since the Kennedy era. At 46 years old, I am a recipient of the civil rights movement and a daughter of the Vietnam war; a child of the Watergate and Nixon years, a benefactor of the prosperity of the Reagan era, a proud American in the Desert Storm victory, an embarrassed American of the Clinton adultery and impeachment years, and now a victim of an economic recession and international destruction of our world standing, as well as a recipient of an insurmountable deficit that will be passed on to my children - an unwanted "gift" from the Bush/Cheney era.
I have watched our prosperity come and go, and have seen the faces of many of our nations warriors dehumanized abroad. As a person who has traveled many years overseas, I have seen my country and countrymen and women despised by the many and not the few. Our country needs more than a change of party's - it needs a revolution - a revolution of ideas and vision; a revolution of those who run Washington. Senator Obama's ideas represents that revolution, and through his message of unity, echoed with his plan for economic fairness, he can bring about the revolutionary changes that we are required to make.
His character has been above board and forthright. The patriotism he has shown for the people of our great nation is unequivocally outstanding. I know of no other candidate that has worked the streets to help the poor and fight for the rights of those disenfranchised.
This is a self-made man from humble beginnings that graduated Magna Cum Laude with a law degree from the most prestigious university in our nation. Mr. Obama is a man to respect and admire for his courage, judgment, and righteous cause. As far as I can see, this is the only candidate that can take our nation into the future with staunch confidence, wisdom, keen judgment, and the power of the people.
In conclusion, I state emphatically that the voice of the American people should once again be the driving force of our nation. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave. Who will take up the cause of the American people and carry the torch of our ideals, ethics, and civil liberties across this nation and to the world? Who will regain our respect and international standing and bring America back to her greatness? I believe, without a doubt, that Senator Barack Obama will.
This is hard to take, like a child taking medicine, but the question must be asked. Do I measure up? It is an unjust system that holds a person of color under a microscope hoping to see any miniscule piece of dust that may or may not be upon him or her. It is true, that Sen. Obama has had to measure up to the immeasurable - and it is still not deemed good enough. How funny it is that he has to take the Commander-in-Chief test when Mrs. Clinton has only been married to a Commander-in-Chief. Our society is harder on a person of color because they are a person of color. You have to fight harder and work longer for the same priviliges as others. But one day, this will cease, and the dream of equal opportunity and hope for ALL of America's citizens will be recognized. It may not come tomorrow, but perhaps it will be the day after tomorrow - we can only hope.On a personal note, I left the United States back in 1999 with a broken heart - but I am hoping to return home to a true land of the FREE and home of the brave. I love my country and my countrymen and woman, but I couldn't accept the racial divide anymore. I have a young son who is born of my universal and non-prejudiced beliefs. We are ALL GOD's children, equal in nature and capable of good things. But I tell you, I will "cuss" out anyone at anytime over my beautiful United States of America! Don't talk about my country and don't mess with my people! We have the greatest possibilites on earth, and some of the greatest minds in the world because we used to "welcome" those who longed for freedom to her distant shores. We used to sing "bring me your tired and your poor". No more...
But still, I love her, like the mother she is to me.
