I am amazed at what has happened these last few days. The blog and listservs have turned into a panic. It's almost like people haven't realized that this is a GE and things get heated during a GE.
To all those that are feeling a sense of doom, please calm down. Remember you can't make good decisions when you do it from a place of panic.
Obama, Axelrod, Gibbs and Plouffe put together a campaign that was impropable two years ago. They know what they are doing, they are smart and they have us. We worked hard for this campaign and we need to keep working hard like it's day one. McCain has Rove acolytes and Bush people running in his campaign. This give us a slight advantage because we know they are tricksters. Karl Rove speaks out of the side of his face and whne you hear him speak you know that it is never the truth. We cannot allow them to distract us with their shiny new object. Let's do what we have been doing only double and triple our efforts if we can and when teh campaign asks us to do something, do it. Write letters, ring doorbells, make phone calls and donate.
I have to admit, they had me for awhile. I fell for it too. Then I realized their strategy, so I got off my duff and volunteered to do whatever I can until Nov. 5th. I saw that they wanted to keep Palin in the countryside to attract those voters that Obama had trouble with during the primaries. If you want to make sure that Obama wins in Nov. get off your duff and connect wiith those voters in the rural areas of this country and let them know that just because you like someone it doesn't mean they will be good for the country.
McCain's people said a few months ago that Hillary Clinton had written their playbookd. Until Clinto they had no idea how to fight Obama. We have been up against Clinton and hello, we won. Yes, we are dealing with a different animal entirely but we know this animal on some level. What do we have to look forward to? Hard hitting "Willie Horton" type ads, distortion of Obama's views and record, outright lies, and smears. We thought we saw smears, we haven't seen anything yet. Most of this stuff will happen in October. McCain put out one of the most digustng ads I have ever seen, it is offensive and racist. But, this is what McCain has brought the camoaign to. McCain is 72 and this is his last chance to reach for something greater than himself, he will do anything to win. A desperate man will eat his own foot if he believes it will save him for another day. McCain has traded his honor and his maverick status to be the Nominee. What else will he do?
Now, I know that we are a creative bunch of people and we have tons of ideas about how to best help the Obama campaign. I applaud, commend and encourage everyone to keep up the good work. But, for the love of God, CALM DOWN. Every poll that comes out that has Obama down puts everyone in a tizzy. Haven't we seen this before? Clinton anyone? The media spins things for dramatic effect. They are not our friends, yet we watch and panic. If you had a friend that slapped you in the face every Wednesday and yet every Wednesday morning you get up thinking today is going to be the day that my friend doesn't slap me, would that make any sense. No, it would not. I am not saying don't watch. By all means, do so and take them to task but don't run through the streets ripping at your hair screaming that the world is over based on a poll. Just work harder.
Palin is going to keep hitting hard. She does that. This woman is smart, calculating and manipulative. Let the Republicans do what they do, but do what Obama and team need us to do so we can win this thing and put Bush and Co. behind us as like a bad date.
So, remember people: relax, relate, release.
Tonight the returns were disappointing but somehow I didn't fall apart like I did from the March 4th primaries. After the results came in from the March 4th primaries I was so sad that I took the day off from my Internship and didn't bother to go to school. Tonight, Iam okay. I donated twice and turned off Pat Buchanan.
Fear won tonight. This is a classic example of what Barack was talking about in San Francisco. The people of Pennsylvania voted aginst their economic interest and some even clung to teh racial divide. I believe in barack and I believe in his mesage.
Part of the reason that I am not disappointed is that barack didn't pay to get out the vote, Hillary did. Only 50% of the people who registered voted. Barack could have gotten a lot nastier but he didn't. We came back from a 26 point deficit.
i donated twice tonight though I can scarecly afford to do so. I believe that much in his messaage, the power of the everyday electorate and the how a movement has taken shape rom nothing. People in the ObamaNation shou
I am so disturbed by Hillary Clinton. I just can't do it, I can't vote against McCain by voting for Hillary. If she manages to terrorize the SD's into giving her the nomination I will not vote for her.
The first time in my life I registered to vote despite the fact that I have been able to vote for the past 10-11 year. I registered to vote because I am voting something, a better America and perhaps a better future for any children I may have.
I won't do it. This woman, in my opinion, is teh same as voting for John McCain. As a metter of fact I have more respect for John McCain right now than I do for Hillary Clinton.
I am disgusted with the tactics used in this race. To use someone's race and background and try to pigeon-hole them as just being a Ppresident for only one segment of teh population is disturbing. Monday, 3/10, I woke up and I was thrown back to teh 1940's. An educated Black man got where he is because he is black!! What a crock of crap. Talk like this has no place in this election.
Hillary Clinton is damaging herself by allowing these things to be said. She seems to forget that if and when she loses she will need to run again for Senate. I will not forget and I will beout there voting. She and Bill Clinton took the African American vote for granted, they thought they had it all locked up. The fact of the matter is the government of Bill Clinton was not a great one for African-American. Bill Clinton helped in the creation of new prisons, stsistics show that a disturbing number of young african-americans are behind bars. Bill Clinton also cut aid to the disenfranchised populations.
I wont even mention the various scandals that wracked the White House during his time in office. The media has neglected to bring this up. Mayebe they are saving it for teh GE in case Clinton manages to steal the election.
Basically, I am disgusted.
Last night was unfortunate. But, the good news is that Obama has kept the margins close. We need to keep on going and forge ahead. We need to get out there and get more people involved. We can take Pennsylvania and all the states surrounding Ohio. Si, se puede! Yes, We can!
Obama talks about hope and people have tried to say that hope is not enough. i think hope is powerful. It can spurn you to do great thing. It has helped me to escape the pifalls that have trapped many that I grew up with. I hoped and belived that I could rise above the impoverished circumstances that I was born in, it was hope that kept me going when I was young child and spent many years in the hospital. I am the person I am today, because I have hope.
I believe in Obama's promise to lead this country. Tonight I have a new hope, I hope that more people get on board with Obama's campaign.
