I did more than I posted, i called and canvased, replaced stolen signs and argued with friends just like everyone else. I am not new to politics or being a citizen of this country. I am soooo proud to be here at this point in history, All we can do is our part. small or large it all adds up. We do what we are called to do among the personal tragedies and triumphs.
I can't wait for the first time I am texted and asked to write to my rep. to support this president, or be more involved in local campaigns when i can make my small contribution. whether you donated 125 over a 6 month period or were able to intern and raise thousands it all adds up.
It took community and will take community. No one is a winner we are all winners.
My part started perhaps by rallying friends to vote against Reagan, yours may have been wearing that Obama button to church. It doesn't matter. The smallest pebble tossed into a pond send waves all across a body of water.
Tomorrow things will change. I hope that this community site and others will continue as a forum for our new president to keep in touch and enable all of us to continue to support him in important issues. D.C. is a toxic place and our president could be sucked into the place, isolated and piece mealed to us in sound bites and rhetoric.
We need someone to continue this site as a way to get out support in the future and for 2012. Today i didn't feel I could take any slammed doors or nasty comments canvasing. I live in a very narrow place, (the clan was headquartered here in the 20's and produced a gov. of Colorado.) the ilk is here and as angry as thier candidate. So what I did was pick up Obama signs to replace the ones stolen all over my precinct over the weekend. That felt good. A way of showing determination without getting into it with someone at this point. My neighbors were very pleased to have new signs.
good luck to us all tomorrow.
Diane
Anyone watch this tonight? This man said everything that this bear of very little brain has been telling anyone who would listen. We are heading off the edge, Paulson and this administration are out of their league and don't know what to do, and are making mistakes and doing things to late...again. That greed has run the markets because people are flawed and see the market as every man for himself and the rest of you are " on your own". This lack of nobless oblige ( nobilities obligation) to everyone is gone. Rather than bears and bulls we have lemmings and sheep. This is not complicated. There is a fight going on, a down and dirty street fight among the high rises and expensive resorts of wall street.
I have a suggestion a very strong, recommendation that Obama call for mediators to referee this fight. The banks don't trust eachother for good reason. We need mediators to go in and start a peace talk with these enemies of finance.
Otherwise, the flak is going to be awful.
In the seventeenth century it became common for rich guys to buy up other rich guys debt. Lord or any so and so could go around town and buy debts unpaid by lords and then sidle up to them at some point and say; "I own you....you get to keep me as a permanent houseguest and give me gold when I want it"
This practice got sooo bad that England almost was owned by rich dutch folks. Thus the banking industry was formed to have enough gold to fend off such monied coups.
It was against the law to buy someones debt without their consent. Guess what we have now???
look familiar...my question is...who is calling in who's debt. (pardon my grammer)
The men who got us into this mess are going to get away with more robbery. It will not free up credit markets as they don't trust eachother anymore. These financial genius's give new meaning to the phrase NO HONOR AMONG THIEVES.
We can't let them do this.
Also, does Sarah Palin have any girlfriends. Isn't there one woman in her life telling her she should drop out, for the simple reason she is being used like a retarded adult being forced to do sex acts? Good god, is she so without self awareness she can't see that she is out of her league? I am starting to feel sorry for her like I would the cheerleader being passed around by the football team and feeling good because she thinks shes popular.
I say, NO TO ANY BAILOUT. When Hank Paulson stated the alternative would be worse, I could hear the theme from the Godfather (apologies to those of Italian heritage). Good god, if you feel like the loan sharks are threatening your children you aren't alone. I finished reading Paul Muolu's book "The Chain of Blame" these greedy men doubled down, created and played a bubble and are laughing all the way to the bank. The concept of the good ole boys isn't abstract. I see this as a battle between old money and new money. Since, as Paulson stated; the taxpayer is in trouble either way...I say let them go down to a man...let them feel the pain of no jobs for three counties
can't get foodstamps because the standards are way more strngent than anything the non-banking industry ever dreamed of, let them not be able to send kids to college, pay for a drs. visit much less anything huge, let them work till they drop dead.
It is a personal choice for Palin and her family, yes, but....it speaks to the hypocrisy of the neocons. When teen pregnancy is at an all time high, overpopulation is the biggest threat to the environment, yet .... you see my point.
If you will also remember a few weeks ago James Dobson called for prayer to rain on the dems convention.....it has back fired.....a major hurrican during the rnc.....that is what you get for practicing "witchcraft" without proper motives. Harm none works whether you are christian or pagan.
I hate it that the mcsames are useing gustav and the tragedy in the south for their own personal angrandizement. sick
I love Sen. Obamas vision and understanding of what is wrong with our country. Since I was 18 I have watched this country vote in the right wing greedy religious not so righteous since Reagan and with no fight from Clinton we have been driven into a virtual peasentry. I realy believe intelligent Hispanics and Mexicans understand the state we are in better than most of us born in the USA. We are dumbed down from the seventies on. I am a product of that dumbed down education. I was helpless as a child growing up to find later I was not taught our history, not given a chance to discuss issues of anykind. Not taught to be a citizen only a consumer. As you can surmise I am a freak in america in my age group (50) I went outside the box and hunt down the truth. For me, resistance is not futile.
I never dreamed it would come to this again, at fifty applying for foodstamps and not finding work in the entire state on the Colorado Workforce in my field. My business failed last spring due directly to the failures of the financial sector. Inflation....is real......certainly not my imagination.
I have intelligent daughters and I see little hope for their future if McSame cheats his way into office. Palin is useless.....and how did she become the gov. of alaska...???
I cannot communicate how tired I am, tired of fighting ignorance and lies on so many levels.
I feel like the survivor of a catastrophe who feels the cavalry will never get here.
love you all who are fighting your way to help the hopeless the lost,
I am watching the Hollywood Roundtable on doc channel, aired the day of the “Dream” speech by King on the mall. It included, John Manciewiz (sp?) David Schoenblume, Charlton Heston, John Baldwin, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belefonte and Marlon Brando. Manciewizt says; “we must stop dreaming a dream and awaken to it.” Obama embodies that awakening over forty years later.
I was also reading today Bill Moyers, Democracy. In it he shares a speech he gave regarding Hubert Humphry’s speech to the Democratic National Convention of 1948.
When I was a kid, in my house it seems all I heard was about Nixon, not Humphry. Not knowing what was going on and trusting my parents views I snuck out of bed to watch the elections when Sen Humphry lost. It excited me about the democratic process. I have only learned today what a force Humphry was. He was called the “happy warrior” and received a great deal of flak for being hopeful in the face of war, power and prejudice.
In 1948 his speech to the convention was a huge risk to him personally, it would kill his career? And chase away the “dixiecrats” from the party which thought couldn’t hold up without them.
Instead it was met with a roar. It became the speech that emboldened Negroes to step up and for the white supremacists to finally show themselves for what they were for all to see.
When he was admonished for being too happy in an unhappy world; he said;
“Well, maybe I can make it a little more happy….I do not believe people will respond to do better if they are constantly approached by a negative attitude….they’ve go to know that there’s somebody that’s with them that wants to help and work with them. I don’t believe in defeat….”
The opposite of hope is dispair……we must fight despair like anyother oppression…the hardest oppression to fight is hopelessness. Michael….you are now the latest member of oppression totally without racial bias, class bias is and always has been the case…..as Marlon Brando stated in the Hollywood roundtable 40 years ago……the Negro is in a long line of oppressed throughout history. Keep fighting.
I went and performed my first canvassing yesterday. I walked for three hours over a three mile square area. I was disappointed in how many weren’t home, assuming that the combined campaign had some idea of the best time to do these things. In Colorado folks tend to run to the mountains, but we are one of the poorest counties in the state and people work every chance they can. There were a lot of folks that had moved as well. My precinct is the oldest part of town, 100 year plus and most of the property is rental, for rafting guides and families of prisoners, so it is very transitory. Of the 20 or so folks I talked to who were home, two refused, one was definitely republican, one will never vote, and one lady thought the race was an atrocity, with a white woman and a black man and thought Sen. Obama was a muslim. The rest were Obama supporters. At one house three guys lived there, and though they weren’t home the truck in front had Obama stickers all over it. I am the captain of this precinct and this was the first time I had been able to walk the area. Many on my list I have met or know personally. It was an education and an eye opener.
I watched Meet the Press this morning and was struck by the fact that so many people take more time to pick a car than they do their leader. It is expected that candidates are to answer in two or three minutes questions regarding complex issues that have been muddled and skewed for decades. The current administration has used politics and power without regard to the effect on the planet , they have made a science of Republican neo-con policies and an art of contempt. The Passive aggressive actions of McCain, where Sen. Obama is “damned if he does” and “damned if he doesn’t” is the lowest tactic. Why isn’t the campaign doing commercials of McCains “war over oil” comments. After the conservatives cried for years that their policies in the middle east have never ever been about oil. Why isn’t the campaign doing ads regarding Phil Grahams economic voodoo?
Why isn’t the campaign doing a reversal on the “swift boat “ idea and trooping out the women of Chicago that inspired him so much he made a spiritual decision of profound importance. Or the people in Chicago who weren’t sure about him at first and his grass roots approach who then were convinced later. Where are these folks? How come the conservatives harp on majority mandates and then when Obama draws huge crowds they disregard those numbers and dismiss that collective presence as “rock star”?????
I am wearing the two bracelets of black and white on my arm until he is elected. If he and the people of this country have this election stolen from us I will wear a black arm band for the duration until someday our democracy is retaken by peaceful or militant action. “They” could care less how many petitions MoveOn.org sends they know we can do little in the way of physical action to stop them from doing what they please as they snicker over a drunk wall street (they poured the booze on) or Bombbomb Iran rock parodies, or joke about there not being a housing problem because Laura is looking in Dallas. The comtempt for America while they carp about a flag pin….??????
It occurs to me that once Sen. Obama becomes President that anything he
Does will create improvement. The economy will continue to downturn for the next four years. We will see some struggling improvements, but until we take our progressive revolution to the next stage….replace the incumbent Senators and Representatives that
Have created the problems and failed to follow-up on their promises of two years ago…nothing can be done.
In the Nation this week the list of back flips by McCain and the medias boot licking
Is legion. Why do the majority seem to continue to support the lowest common denominator and even the just mere common like Rush Lumbaugh. $400 mill.?????
I resent this highly. I am a “bear of very little brain” and I am intelligent and educated
And this nasty bigot gets that kind of money. That is elitism at its best I suppose.
I am so tired of the bullies, bigots, incompetent getting the jobs and holding them through
Intimidation, theft, lying and passive aggressive behavior and sometimes out right aggression….ie; Cheney and the “so” that was heard round the world..
The right has worked hard to get us this way so they can’t complain when we are furious.
The situation has taken decades to create this twisted democracy/capitalist owned militaristic run country. Since Reagan. The dems are stupid who have not seen the writing on the wall and have been all “hail fellow well met” with the right. I blame each American who has never voted, voted sporadically, not read up on the actions of those who have turned us into peasants. A friend said she would not vote as she has lost all
Faith in our government and I ask her to vote in support of Zimbabweans who are dying
To create a free society. She felt she could do that hadn’t thought of it that way.
I saw this coming back in the eightys. I waited with sinking heart for Bill Clinton to do something besides pander and make half hearted attempts at change. I knew the last eight years would be disaster and it isn’t over yet. Its sort of like the adage….it takes at least half the time to lose weight as it did to gain it. The same goes with economy and normalizing relations with countries we have stuck our nose into.
I am very concerned about Sen. Obama continuing the faith based programs of Bush. This is the first policy he has stated that I have a great deal of opposition to. Faith based programs have allowed the likes of Dobson, Hagee and the LDS polygamists to grow into monsters of hate mongering. Mental health programs have taken a beating funding wise because they get money to “counsel” with a Christian bias. I was trained to be open minded toward my clients and respect all value systems, but the faith based programs
Throw that right out the window.
He’s losing me with this one.
P.S. The media this morning is gone all tabloid today with the Bill Kiss my touché gossip
I have one for you…..Bill as VP. It isn’t precluded by law! He’s a tough man, very smart
And will be a great asset….pardon the pun lol. I wonder if the MSM are afraid that could happen and continue to confuse political news with scinallation ala show biz as news.
Anyone catch K.Olberman last night and his relaying of legal advise from J.Dean visa vis
i just spent twenty minutes writing a bloody blog and was logged out before I could post. that stinks. I need more time.
Now way should Hillary be veep. I will not donate to Obama just to have her debt paid off.
She ran a lousy campaign if she didn't quit when she knew she didn't have the money. that is how she would have run the country just like Bush.
