That was the way Ed Schultz contextualized the $700 billion bailout Paulson and Bernanke are trying to push down our throats - or throw onto our backs, depending on how you prefer to look at it. It is the equivalent of winning a $1 million daily for the past 2,000 years. Holy crap!
He also pointed out Section 8 of the bailout plan, which states uncategorically that there will be no accountability for what they want to do with $700 BILLION. So I came home and decided to read the whole thing. The first site I looked at, economicpopulist.org, I had never been to before. When I started reading, I thought maybe they were kidding. So I went to the NYT. Holy crap! I owe The Economic Populist an apology. I just couldn't believe what I was reading until I read it twice, and it said the same thing on both sites. See here: http://www.economicpopulist.org/?q=content/text-bail-out-act-congress-take-action-now.
We are about to get screwed like we never have in life. If you have children and/or grandchildren like I do, then you have to realize the type of future this means for them.It doesn't look good, whether this gets passed, with or without revisions, or not. The again, we've been here before. Read FDR's first inaugural address: http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/fdrfirstinaugural.htm.Keep in mind that he took office during the Great Depression. It looks to me like the difference here is that we have media spin telling us this isn't a depression. We've got the latest buzzwords of "Wall Street vs. Main Street". I'm imagining a bunch of Conservatives across America have that "deer in the headlights'" look right now.
So, did everyone have fun spending their stimulus checks?
Read and share - with everyone! The truth will set us all free!

There are a couple of new items on MyBo that I wanted to bring to your attention. The first is the new feature on Neighbor to Neightbor, which is called Vets to Vets. Right now, it targets phone calls to vets in New Hampshire, but I'm sure that will expand to other swing states quickly. Here is the link: http://my.barackobama.com/page/votercontact/landing.
Second, Im pleased to announce that there is a Womens Veterans for Obama group @: http://my.barackobama.com/page/group/FemaleVetsforObama (it says Female Vets for Obama, but they are working on changing that). For those of you who are women veterans, you are well aware of our unique needs, and how imperative it is to bring those needs to the forefront. Please spread the word and let's get the group numbers up!
I have been asked by Stephen Fox, Contributing Editor for the New Mexico Sun News to share his blog posts: http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stephenfox/gG5Q5n. There is one thing he said that I want to echo: WE MUST WIN THIS ELECTION! We risk losing everything that we have fought for for the past232 years, namely, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, for us, our children and our childrens children. This is a class war. They are using their bastardized version of "family values" against us, and believe me, there are a lot of folk out there buying every ignorant word they are putting out. WE MUST WIN THIS ELECTION!! Veterans medical benefits will be privatized. Personnel returning from OIF/OEF will continue to be short-changed in receiving the care they need for the physical and psychological damage they have suffered for serving their country. Much needed services to assist them in transitioning from military to civilian life will be non-existent. WE MUST WIN THIS ELECTION!!! We need to show them that Community Organizers trump their Hockey Mom, on ice, grass, on the water, in the air, and in the desert. Have a great weekend, get lots of calls made, doors knocked on and literature distributed. And as always, stay "Fired Up"!

Please read and circulate widely. This is information that we need to be using as we go about canvassing and tabling. If Politico is questioning McCain's pick, we know something's up.

He's busy pandering to Hillary supporters, as if they are too ignorant to see what he is trying to pull. They should be made aware of this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/29/palin-hillary-clintons-wh_n_122504.html

There's plenty more where this came from, but you get the idea. She makes Barack look like Thomas Jefferson in the experience realm!
Received this evening from the Sierra Club. Note that her husband works for BP. That's not mentioned in the transcript of her speech.
Shocking Choice by John McCain
WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.“Senator McCain’s choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.“Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration. “This is Senator McCain’s first significant choice in building his executive team and it’s a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain’s commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil.”
So, no one knows who she is, he met her once, she's to the right of right...
Is McCain campaigning for Barack, or what?
Curtis Walker, who has been active in the Obama campaign in Nevada County, CA since the beginning, and who is the Nevada County lead for California Veterans for Obama, is also a delegate at the convention. He was tapped by one of the local Sacramento news channels, Channel 10, to blog from the convention, as well. Here is the link to his blog: http://integritynowca.blogspot.com/.
Also, Digg this article about Curtis with Ron Kovic: http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Obama_delegate_Walker_with_Veteran_Hero?OTC-em-st1.
If you don't know who Ron Kovic is, or have forgotten, I suggest you watch "Born of the Fourth of July". My husband and I watched it this past weekend, for the firs ttime in years, and it reinforced my conviction that the time and energy I have, and will continue, to contribute to the cause, regardless of how painful it may seem at times, is necessary to affect change in the direction our country is going in, and the care that our veterans receive.
I have been at this for the past two months, with Veterans for Obama. During that time, I have been honored to have met and communicated with many wonderful veterans and supporters, who have donated countless hours to put veterans and military issues at the forefront of our candidates, elected officials, and the public at large. I have been watching the Winter Soldier project. It has hardened my determination to do everything I can to make sure Obama gets in the White House, and that this war, and the maltreatment of our men and women in uniform, past and present, ceases. If you are a veteran, are related to a veteran, know a veteran or someone who is still in the military, turn to them and let them know you care, and Barack Obama cares. Encourage them to sign on to the Veterans for Obama site, and the corresponding site for whatever state they are in. Encourage them to join us, to fight the good fight, and take America back!
