I forced myself to listen to the Rush Limbaugh show on Monday 02/12/07. I needed to hear what the Right Wingers had to say about the wonderful speech Senator Obama delivered on Saturday, and the enthusiasm his campaign is generating. Rush was "ill" - - hm-m-m-m-mmmm.... I'll try again today. What I won't do to get some insight into the thinking (or lack thereof) of Limbaugh's listeners....
The callers to the Limbaugh show are so clueless as to Senator Obama's background and faith. One man said twice: "I cannot support a man who says amen to an Immam!" Oddly enough, the caller was not corrected by the host. So the impression that is left is that Senator Obama is a Muslim. And if he were - -so what?!? Our Founding Fathers ensured us the freedom to practise our faith, as we see fit!
Wish me luck....
I have never been involved in politics, until the Fiasco in Florida in 2000. I read the paper, I voted, paid my taxes and always thought that was enough. But after that voting/Supreme Court mess, I made up my mind then & there, that I could not sit back and watch - - it was up to me to participate & speak up. And to volunteer for candidates that I believe in - - and to support them as best I can financially.
My first campain was when I joined the volunteers and staff who were working for now Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). I got on board from Day I of her successful campaign for the U. S. Senate, and her message is much like Senator Obama's. It's about: Hope, a brighter future, HOPE!!!
Thanks to my participation on the Klobuchar campaign, I was alerted to this remarkable man from Illinois, named Barak Obama. (I wish I had a nickle for every time I messed up his name! I could solely fund his campaign!!) But you want to know something? His name is inconsequential, contrasted with the amazing message this man has for America.
I first heard his message as I watched his stirring speech at the DNC in Boston, and I was hooked! This man is the "Real Deal" - - and he is ONE OF US! He is not mega wealthy, like others involved in this race. He came from humble beginnings, and he has not forgotten where he came from.
It is up to humble folks like you and me to support this man spiritually, financially and with our hard work and HANDS ON participation, we can have someone in the Oval Office of whom we can be proud!!
Go Barak, GO!!!
