I went out and canvassed voters today. I used the Obama list, which does not seem coordinated with the Democratic party list. I am going to see how adding the information goes. I have also spoken to others not on my list who live near me or came to the sale. I need some literature from the other candidates I noticed.
Either way it was not a bad time. Mostly not home or had moved, but I got to talk to a half dozen people or so. There seems to be a lot of support in this area at least.
Yikes! I am going to get forced into a union... That is what I heard on BLM this morning.... You too? Here is what they are referring to. This is for informational purposes only. The Tom Allen campaign does not respond to attack ads, but I got the information because when I am out canvassing I did not want to be caught flat footed. I hope this helps. Here is the link. I am trying to set up a widget, but having no luck.

Here are the two statements unaltered from the campaigns about the revised HIV numbers released today. You will notice that while McCain concentrates on "a more competitive marketplace", Obama speaks of looking for a cure. This is the difference in their perspectives and their Healthcare plans.
August 4, 2008Presidential Candidates Respond to New HIV EstimatesPresidential candidates Sens. Barack Obama (D–Ill.) and John McCain (R–Ariz.) responded to the underestimating of U.S. HIV infections over the last decade by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to AIDS 2008 (aids2008.com, 8/3).Obama released this statement:“We have now learned that 56,300 new HIV infections occurred in the United States in 2006, not 40,000 that had been previously cited. These new figures should bring new focus to our efforts to address AIDS and HIV here at home.“As president, I am committed to developing a National AIDS Strategy to decrease new HIV infections and improve health outcomes for Americans living with HIV/AIDS. Across the nation, we also need to prevent the spread of HIV and get people into treatment by expanding access to testing and comprehensive education programs. This report also demonstrates the need for more timely data about HIV transmission so that we can effectively evaluate prevention efforts.“Combating HIV/AIDS also demands closing the gaps in opportunity that exist in our society so that we can strengthen our public health. We must also overcome the stigma that surrounds HIV/AIDS—a stigma that is too often tied to homophobia. We need to encourage folks to get tested and accelerate HIV/AIDS research toward an effective cure because we have a moral obligation to join together to meet this challenge, and to do so with the urgency this epidemic demands.”McCain released this statement:“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) yesterday announced that in 2006 there were 56,300 new HIV infections in United States—significantly higher than the previous estimate of 40,000 cases. More than a million Americans live with this devastating disease. As President, I will work closely with non-profit, government and private sector stakeholders to continue the fight against HIV/AIDS. By focusing efforts on reducing drug costs through greater market competition, promoting prevention efforts, encouraging testing, targeting communities with high infection rates, strengthening research and reducing disparities through effective public outreach, we as a nation can make great progress in fighting HIV/AIDS.”
I went to the opening of the Democratic office in Sanford tonight. It was a good turn out and someone from all of the races except the presidential one were there. I got a chance to say Hello to TOm Allen and to thank him for his speech at the Democratic Convention in Maine. He was the only speaker of all the candidates that spoke about gay and lesbian rights or at all. I was impressed by that.
I did notice that the Bake Sale goods had a second life at the reception, which made me feel a little better.
Well we raised $175 with the Bake Sale for Obama and that is good. First I would like to thanks all my friends who helped. Brandon, Carol, Donny, Mike and Walt all made wonderful stuff for the sale. Even my very Republican neighbors could not resist the charms.
We took the Bake Sale on the road after we had limited visits in Sanford. We went to the Peace march in Kennebunkport arranged by Jamilla el Shafei. We met a few folks who are left of where the campaign currently stands and were not very enthused with Obama. It was good to hear some different perspectives asnd we appreciate their support.
The remaining baked goods will be donated to the local shelter and to the Democratic office here in Sanford to feed some volunteers. It was nice that a couple of the campaign workers Crystal and Adam came by after the day was done to talk to us and get feedback. All in all the day was about what I suspected.
Well I took the plunge and am going to have an event. I have posted a bake sale to be had at my house on the 2nd of August. I live right on Main Street so I am hoping to get some traffic, but mostly it is about meeting some people. I put it under 'meeting' (as opposed to 'fundraiser') so it would not look like strictly a fundraiser, but I do not know if it helped. If you got the email would you let me know.
I am also scheduled to canvass with the Sanford Democrats on Saturday morning. Maybe I will see some of you.
