I wanted to write this and tell everyone that I am through with this stuff! The Obama administration has taken a giant leap from its campaign promise of bipartisanship to direct and unopposed partisanship in which the first sign was the stimulus bill. This bill was written by the most liberal Congressman in the house, Congressman David Obey from Wisconsin. Where was the Bipartisanship? There was no consultation of Republicans on the matter. It was simply rammed down their throats. The Budget goes against the Idea of Deficit cutting. It increases it further beyond the Bush era. We continue to devalue our own currency by printing money that we dont have. My friends I joined the campaign on the premise that there would be something new happening in the politics of Washington. I joined the Democratic Party on the premise that we could have someone sensible in the office who does work well with others who are across the aisle. But instead he takes the hands off approach to congressional politics and allows his own party to continue to run their extremist liberal Agenda to spend more, tax more, and hand control of the economy over to the Government more. I have been a Democrat since the General Election of 2000 when I switched from Republican to Democrat to vote for Al Gore. At this point I no longer feel at home in the extremist Liberal party of America otherwise known as "the Democratic Party!"
This is why I am considering the switch to the Republican Party. What are your thoughts?
Right now, I see a whole bunch of shifting to the middle on both sides. Barack is trying to shift to the right a bit to win over independents to which he is not. he was doing better before he tried to shift. Why is it that when the primaries are over both sides try to shift to the middle? Maybe they have no alternative. Barack Obama was doing much better with independents before the shift. I do not see Barack Obama as alienating the core of his followers with this but it does give the news media some things to bite at. John McCain on the other hand is encountering resistance from his own party. He is helping us out while doing so becoming the McCain of 2000 and starting to win over independents. They are the core group to win in order to secure the white house. Any thoughts on what we can do as a movement to stop the pandering to the middle and stick to what works best, Being the candidate for change! ?
I would like to put this out there to get a general consensus on what should be done. I hope the Obama Campaign actually reads these and sees what is said for advice.
What I think:
I think that we should be hard on it. I mean I am a Conservative after all. I think that Pandering shows weakness of character and will. And Skirting around the issue isnt any better. What we must do is get enough balls to talk about Race, Religion, and illegal immigration in an open manner without being "politically correct" or more precisely Politically convenient. Lets build the biggest and bets possible fence and send illegals back to the country they came from. Let them come here legally. It is not immigration I have an issue with it is the ILLEGAL part. This is only my opinion what do the rest of you reading this have to say? hopefully they are watching and learning from our opinions.
This post is exactly about what the title says. Many reasons why Republicans win in many scenarios and elections is because they Understand the Liberal thought processes a little better than Liberals understand Conservative thought processes. As a Conservative I fully understand the positions and reasoning involved behind the Conservative and Republican mindset. As a Democrat I also understand the Liberal end as well and their reasons for believing things the wya they do. You might say I would be an ideal package for politics if i were only running for something and could actually win at it.
Here is a test for Liberals to see if they understand Conservatives.
Scenario 1: Why are Conservatives(Mainly Republicans) against abortion but for capital Punishment? There is no contradiction here according to the Conservative Republican mindframe. Why?
Scenario 2: Why are many Conservatives against Welfare and funds for the needy, but in favor of funds for victims of fires, floods, hurricanes, etc.? There is no contradiction here. Why?
As I have watched over the many many months while touring the Campaign scene and watching potential Candidates show what they are made of. I find that Barack Obama has the stuff needed for the Presidency. However, I have also been watching the other side. I find that many of them are potential Losers in the next election except one, Ron Paul. In my opinion he is probably the biggest threat to the Democratic Candidate for president. He is against the war in Iraq and to top off the tip of the iceberg he is an actual conservative, not of the neo-con persuasion. He is for less government intervention and for immediately ending the war in Iraq.
The reason I see him as the biggest threat is his potential not as the Republican Candidate for President, but as an Independant Candidate who could potentially sway Independant voters and even some Moderate Republicans and Conservative to Moderate Democrats. I understand a lot of where he is coming from and I feel that in some ways that he make some strong points about he country. I also feel that his words are meant more as a wake up call for the Republican party and not for the betterment of the country as a whole. Barack Obama has the message of betterment of the country and is not about Limiting our government or expanding it. He represents the trust that we all need in the Government to help fight the good fights that raise this country above the rest. He is for clarity and transparency that gives the people a good look into the inner workings and spending within our government. So I say Lets "Barack the Vote" and get the show on the road!
Seeing Obama speak here in Columbus was Awesome. he gave a great message of Change and Hope for America that really stands out above all of the rest of the candidates. The way he spoke so passionately about the need to change the Politics of Washington makes me support him more. I like especially how he remarked about how others are ridiculing his resume and yet Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld had long Washington resumes and look where they are. I love his candidness and his honesty. So he gets the official seal of approval from this Conservative Democrat.
Many of you have read part one where I talked about some general views of mine on abortion, gay unions, immigration, and Gun control. Now lets talk about a few others.
1. Death Penalty
Many people when they think of Democrats they think of those who are against the death penalty. Well think again! This Conservative Democrat is all for it. In many cases I would flip the switch myself. Before you all get on a Rampage and say: "What if you are wrong and they are innocent!" First, I would say that that is a big "What If!" I mean these people were convicted by a jury of their peers in a court of law during which evidence was presented to "prove" the innocence and guilt of the accused. Granted we are human, and we are not perfect, we are doing the best that we can with what we have. We have DNA testing and many other advanced tools at the disposal of the Defense to try and get his/her client out of trouble. They also have appeals to issue. So what is the beef with the Liberal end of the spectrum? Nothing but their Bleeding hearts and their lack of faith in the founding Fathers and the Constitution on the system that was set up.
2. Church and State
One thing I cannot stand is the ACLU. I mean they make lawsuits over the stupidest little things. Oh my G-d someone said "one nation under G-d" in the pledge! C'mon now lets not offend any Atheists or agnostics out there who are "anti-religion." My theory is that ACLU should stick this measure. No matter how hard they try G-d will always be a part of the State and the lives of every American out there. I mean the american dollar says on it "In G-d we trust." Like I said, the stupidest little things. Before you misunderstand me I am not espousing a theocracy and never will I believe Thomas Jefferson put it best in his writings by saying that the interpretation of this is that there is a wall of separation between the church adn the state. IOW no Church runned state( AKA A Theocracy). But I mean to try and take G-d out of the Pledge, the Ten Commandments down in Alabama, and the countless lawsuits on schools and other institutions for having religious markers from Christianity is rediculous. I am not a christian and I do not feel offended so why should you?
That is all for now. Until next time when Part 3 shows its ugly face.
Many people think that it is impossible to be a Social Conservative and be a Democrat. So says the Extremist left and the Extremist Right. Mostly this lies in the Party base of the democratic Party which says "it's my way or the Highway!" With the Moderate to Conservative element so why dont I tell you and explain my beliefs on some issues. Lets start with the immigration problem.
DISCLAIMER: These are my personal views and do not reflect necessarily the views of the Barack Obama campaign or their Staff.
1. Immigration
Here comes the Social Conservative part of me. I am all for the New border fence being built. I think that our borders should be the most secure and one with the highest and deepest fences you will ever see in a thousand lifetimes. The thing is I agree with the Republicans on many of the issues and points made. If you think I am against Immigration you are wrong. I am against Illegal Immigration. Many of the more Liberal persuasion like to think that Conservatives are against such things. They are not. We are just against the Illegal part of it. What I think does it is that when people talk about these things they talk about extremes. These extremes are why most of our Politicians on both sides of the aisle will not talk to one another and come to some sort of compromise on the matter. Here is a common sense approach that I think most would benefit from: Let's put the fence in place and at the same time lets make the Immigration forms a bit more simplified so that even a 2 year old could understand them. Increase the rate of processing on those who wish to immigrate legally so that they may become productive members of our society.
2. Abortion
Gee When everyone thinks conservative they think Pro-life or Anti-aboritonists. Being Pro-Life does not mean someone has to lose their common sense on the matter. To me Abortion is in reality a State matter. In the constitution there is no implied right to abortion. If you can read to me where it states anything similar to abortion rights let me know? In reality any right not given to the Federal Government is given to the States. In this matter that is what should ideally happen. I personally am against Abortion except in cases of rape, incest, and when the Mother's health is involved. If you want more details Email me.
3. "Gay Marriage"
Can anyone say "Civil union." I mean who cares if some Gay people want to have similar rights as heterosexual couples do. I just do not support the idea of it being called a marriage fo some obvious reasons. In the whole history of the world there is no record of any homosexual union ever being called a "marriage" until recently. Marraige is an individual state right to recognize them or not. to which they are doing right now as per their constitutional right to do so. I believe that everyone is entitled to their "pursuit of happiness" but please dont call it marriage. Marriage is for a man and a woman. Take the compromise for what it is as we will say "civil unions are for a man and a man/woman and a woman." and we will even give you rights to their benefits. it is a bit Liberal coming from me but it still does not compromise my core principles.
4. Gun rights
The more guns the merrier I get. Sorry, guns are not the root of all evil. Guns don't kill people, People kill people. the gun doesn't just go off someone has to pull the trigger. So dont blame the gun take responsibility and blame the person. The second amendment says that we as people have the right to keep and bear arms. It does not say that we have the right to keep and bear arms to a certain extent. Granted all safety precautions should be followed so as to avoid any accidents and things like that. but my question is: Why blame the gun when the person is responsible? Probably because some extremist liberal decided it is more convenient. Democrats can and should take a "hands off" approach and focus more of economic and fiscal issues to which we can easily win.
That is all for now it is 2:00 A.M. and I am off to bed. Gotta go and earn those $$$.
In this day and age being a Conservative Democrat is hard. Especially, when the party itself is dominated by extremist Liberal factions within the party. I sometimes ask myself why I am not a Republican? I am not a Republican because they too are plagued with extremism of the Neoconservative way and the Evangelical Right. I also have another reason, I believe. I believe in the Democratic Party that stood for something. The Democratic Party that hasnt lost its way.
In many ways the Democratic Party is lost in itself. The members who call themselves "Democrats" are in many ways hypocritical. They Bash Republicans for being intolerant but on the same hand are intolerent themselves in many cases such as the Mel Gibson case. Usually in America we forgive and forget when someone apologizes for their actions and actually take steps to reform such behavior but not when the Liberal Extremists got a hold of it. They were the most inolerant of all.
This is one of the things I am against the Liberal Extremism that has taken over the party and left us sensible Moderates/Centrists and Conservative members behind. What we need to do is step down from our Hypocritical ways and move toward actually being the sensible, pragmatic, and Bi-partisan Democratic party that we should be. The Party of the People! I believe Barack Obama can bring the Democratic Party back to this idea that we represent the People and not Extremist Liberal self interest groups. So Let's Barack the vote and show those extremist Neocons and those extremist Liberals that the people, not they, run this country.
