Tears of sorrow can change to tears of happiness

I cried tears of sorrow as I watched the RNC denegrate anybody who was not in the military.

Why would any working class average American ever vote for a Republican, I'll never figure out. The Republicans demean you, they oppress you, they are an aristocracy that doesn't give a rat's behind about you and will break you spiritually and financially and then kick you in the teeth by not supporting any programs to help you. They and their trickle down theory, allows a coin or 2 to trickle to your pocket.

It's a darn shame that in this country that anyone goes hungry and that we need soup lines.
We are regressing to a time when there were poor farms and debtors prisons since the Republicans have taken control. Instead of plentiful good paying jobs, we are left with, well, not much. Manufacturing, customer service, engineering, technical jobs have gone to other countries.

The Republicans try to project the image of being pro-family, but it couldn't be further from the truth. They continually support rich people and large corporations. Gone are the days when most men could support their family with his income, alone. Most families have to have both parents working and sometimes even multiple jobs. What's next, repealing child labor laws so families have to have their children work to survive?

Barack Obama, Joe Biden and a Democratic Congress will bring new intitiatives to build up our infrastructure and put good jobs back in play. Our infrastructure is deplorable. From transportation via train to the condition of our bridges, to the power grids and we DO need to break away from oil and gas. It is going to run out some day folks. The Democrats will support green energy across the board and bring manufacturing back to the automobile industry, transportation industry and energy industry. They will do what Franklin Roosevelt did with the TVA act and the New Deal, to lift our country back up to economic success.

Sarah Palin's state pays their people to live there because of all the oil profits they receive. McCain is connected at the hip to Bush/Cheny and Texas Oil and large oil coroporations and now he's connected at the hip to Palin and Alaskan Oil and more large oil corporations. This is their entire deal - please do NOT be fooled by them.

There are more than 2 states in the United States of America. There are millions of people in our country who are in deep trouble economically and the rest are as well, they just haven't realized it, yet.

How's your neighbor doing?

Knock on wood, I have a good job. I make enough money to be able to easily afford my mortgage on a modest home, my car payment on an average car, enough to put food on the table, pay my utilities, save some, play a little and donate some.

However, I remember all too well how my life was turned upside down in the blink of an eye in what in some ways seems so long ago and other ways seems like just yesterday. I lived in an area that was heavily dependent on manufacturing, where anybody could live a decent and good life, whether you were college bound or not. Then, the economy went into a downward spiral. Thousands of workers were furloughed from their jobs. The domino effect displaced thousands more. Soon, there were hardly more stores open in the malls than were boarded up. Housing values dropped to barely 1/3 of their former value. Rental units went unoccupied because people couldn't even afford meager rents. Families had to move or move in together.
I think you get the picture by now, that things were pretty rough. I was pretty good at hustling up jobs, but many times I was working 2 jobs and taking side work odd jobs to still come short of being able to pay my mortgage.

Fast forward and I'm sitting pretty decent - not monetarily wealthy, but comfortable. That's me and that's the way it is for most of my friends and relatives. However, as I pay attention to how other people in other areas who have or are losing their livelihoods because of plant closings, the remembrances of my faded nightmare come looming forward, again.

It's easy to become complacent when you are comfortable. It's easy to ignore the news stories when you have the money to do activities that occupy your mind and your time. It's easy to forget that some hard working people may be having a tough time. Even when you are aware that all in the world is not right, it's easy to simply acknowledge and go back to your own happy life.

This is one of the reasons that I admire Barack and Michelle Obama so much. When I think how easy it would have been for them to just go on in their careers. Both extremely bright and well educated, the world could have easily been their oyster. Instead, Barack and Michelle never forgot their roots and never forgot there were others who work hard but just cannot seem to make ends meet. Never forgot there are others who just don't have the knowledge or skills to get themselves out of their own nightmare. Not only did they still remember there are people in trouble, they purposely placed their careers on a path to give back to their communities. They continue to relate to the community of America.

Barack and Michelle Obama not only talk the talk they have walked the walk and will always walk the walk. They've done it with pride and honesty. They've taken the high road when it would have been easy to fall into the temptation trap of corporate lobby and incentives.

I only wish I would have been so community minded with other things than my vote, but one thing I am proud of is that every time I have voted, I have tried to keep in mind to think of the whole country and vote for the whole country and not just for my circumstances.

This is the first time in a long time that I really feel a candidate truly knows America - ALL of America - and that is why I am actively doing what I can to help and why I will take extreme pride in casting my vote for Barack Obama.

Election Fraud and Tricks

This really proves the point at how important it is for all of us to get out there and register people, educate people and make sure we get as high of a turnout as possible.

Let's do everything we can to get Barack elected.
He's mentioned toward the end of the film, by the way, and in a very good way.

It makes my heart hurt

I am so sad and my heart hurts, lately, when I read about some of the Dems banding together to try to force Obama to stay very left or go far left.

I have never registered with any party. Nor have I ever donated to any party. As an independent, I must admit that I've probably been a little left in a lot of my viewpoints, but I do see some merit in some of the Right's ideas. I've not always voted Democrat, though.

Obama, though painted as far left, has never been far left. From the very beginning he has worked to unite people from all sides. That doesn't mean he's forced his ideas on anyone. It means he's worked to get all parties to negotiate together for a common good. He has always said, we are not the Blue states of America, nor are we just the Red states of America, we are the United States of America. I feel he has always been very clear with just that statement.

So, when I hear Dems complaining and claiming they will withhold their support of him because he doesn't hold fast to a totally left agenda - it just makes my heart hurt.

Obama is the brightest and best candidate for POTUS the Left or the Right has had in many decades. Let's not snuff that bright star out.

There is nothing worse than when someone tries to ram an idea, whether it be political, religious or otherwise, down your throat. Even if you feel they may be correct, it's a hard for people to feel forced into something. I trust Obama to do the correct thing (notice I didn't say 'right' thing, on purpose) to begin the change of direction this country needs. Rather than ram a Left position he's building relationship of bipartisan negotiation. It more often than not takes a small step to begin a good turn.

While, I'm not a very accomplished writer, I do hope I've gotten my point across.

My first political event

I went to my first event, tonight. It was a gathering of progressives at a local trendy restaurant/bar. Busy, busy, busy. I talked to a few people who were candidates for various offices. Made a little donation to one of them. Picked up a couple of Obama stickers. Ate a few bites from the buffet. Oh, and I signed up to do a call bank session at Democratic HQ.
