Oh my God people, what is going on. I just heard about another family being destroyed by apparent hopelessness. Its bad but not that bad. Those poor children had everything to live for. If you or anyone you know is going through some hard times, please, please, please take the time to reach out. Don't be so prideful or selfish not to ask for help. We are all in this together. You are all my brothers and sisters and I care about you. We are all neighbors and friends, you are not alone. When you suffer we all suffer but we do it together. We may fall together but we will rise together as well.
I have been through some very hard times in my life and when I was at my lowest was when I felt all alone with no one to turn to. I felt trapped, hopeless and lost. When I was at that point when all hope was lost was when a friend asked me one day how I was doing. I lied and said everything was great, but he pressed me saying he didn't believe that. When I let go of my pride and started to open up to him about my situation, I felt a large weight was lifted from my shoulders. I didn't need to feel ashamed of myself for how things were going, sometimes things just happen and even though I couldn't see a way out, my friend could. He gave me some advise and offered me some part time work to help me get through this rough time I was going through. I was a janitor for 6 months, but through one small step at a time I pulled my life together until I felt happy again about myself. It took some time, but afterwords I felt much stronger and more capable of dealing with life's problems.
If I could offer any advise to others that may be feeling the same is, don't hide how you feel. If things are going bad tell someone. People care a lot more then you think and they may see things that will help you out of your situation that you can't see. Let go of your pride and talk about it. It might just be the best thing you can do.

Can cutting taxes really save our economy?

I keep hearing people say, especially republicans, that in order to fix the economy, we need to cut taxes and I just don't see how that will help everyone. They are saying that "in order to fix the economy we need to put money back in the hands of taxpayers." Sounds good but that is not going to help everyone. What about the people that don't make enough income to pay taxes. Lower income people are as much a part of the economy as upper income people. In my opinion Tax incentives disproportionately distribute wealth to the upper rungs of our society. The majority of people are not on those rungs and thus it seems to be a clever way for tax payers to help themselves instead of doing the hard thing and helping others. This is just my opinion. Just for the record i don't really know how to fix all these problems that we are facing but the more of us that are debating this topic the better result we should be able to get. I really would like to see our country doing finically better. All of us.

Political Chocolates.

Polititions are like chocolates, you never really know what you are going to get until you bite into it. Even if there are labels on the chocolates, what you think it's going to taste like may be quite different once you tasted it for yourself.
I relate this to politics in two ways. First politicians are like chocolates in that they all look very good sitting in that box next to each other. All prim and proper, saying all the right things. Second, like chocolates they all have labels as to what is suppose to be inside. While labels help identify to some extent the contents, this in itself is no true measure of what it will tastes like when you eat it.
While its fun to relate things to Forest Gump's "Life is like a box of chocolates" epiphany . The truth is it feels that way when trying to get a handle on politicians and the truth. It is very hard to determine whats inside by just looking at the exterior and reading the labels.
You may be asking yourself, what does this have to do with anything and i will tell you. I would like to use two important figures in politics today to explain my point, Rob Blagojevich and Barack Obama. Two well known and well liked politicians from the same box.
Standing next to each other both Rob and Barack look to be capable and trusting public servants. With their polished political exteriors they seem to exude confidence, charm and leadership. Reading their labels you can see that there must be something good inside it says so right there on the label. It looks good, it sounds good, it must taste good right? Well this is the assumption anyway.
I saw Rob on TV the day before he was arrested, trying to help out some workers in his community who's window company was going out of business. There he stood side by side with his fellow Americans fighting for truth, justice and the American way, saying that he wasn't going to let this injustice happen. Not on his watch. I remember telling my wife "now there is a politician willing to fight for us." I was surprised that i hadn't really heard much about him until then. I thought to myself there is a politician that is going to go somewhere and went to bed. Going somewhere is right, straight to Jail. When i woke up it was all over the news. I couldn't believe it, I was shocked. After hearing the quotes from the conversations that were recorded I was even more shocked. How could I have been so wrong in my initial assessment of this guy. While the rest may be history, the feeling of misjudgment still sits uncomfortable with me like a nagging itch you just cant scratch.
Barack Obama, our new president. The first time I saw Barack was after he was elected into the senate. Young and idealistic he represented the next generation of politicians. After his speech at the Democratic convention, I like Chris Matthew's thought the very same thing. This guy is going places. I went to bed and when i woke up, he was running for president. At least it seemed that way. Myself and many of Americans I believe, began making our initial assessment of this guy at that time. Is he ready for this kind of job? Can he handle the pressure? Is he qualified? Unlike Rob though, Barack was campaining for president and had competition, namely Hillary Clinton. When compared side by side both looked to be capable and trusting public servants. Hillary had the experience, Barack had the idealism and charm. When I made my assessment the experience won out over the idealism and I choose to support Hillary. Through a very hard fought primary Barack emerged the victor and I like many other Hillary supporters cautiously boarded the Obama Express.
But i thought this is about chocolates, you might be asking. We all know how Barack got elected. What's your point? The point is this. When choosing between things, when there is no obvious choice, you just have to sink your teeth in and give it a try and see how it tastes. You cant take anyone else's word on it because ultimately its about how you feel that matters. Substance alway trumps superficiality and when you take a bite and hope for carmel and get orange you can always spit it out.
Just for clarification in my analogy Rob is the orange chocolate and Barack is the Carmel. :) I love Carmel!

Coming Over.

It has been a long battle between Clinton supporters and Barack supporters. This battle has left both sides tarnished and bruised. As the campaign's reach their historic conclusions, the time to determine the winner is quickly approaching.
It was like watching two prize fighters battling it out until the last round. Each exchanging blow after blow round after round but not knocking the other down. In the end both fighters stand in the middle of the ring all bloodied and bruised waiting for the judges decision.
As it is the battle was so close that their was no obvious winner and the determination was left up to the super delegates and their score cards to decide who was the winner. In the end though, there can only be one. Those are the rules. What is left is a winner and a loser.
But now comes the survivor twist. The loser now has to support the winner in his next round with another fighter and without the losers support their is no chance that the winner will succeed in that fight.
And that is where we all stand at this moment. How it will play out is anyones guess but one thing is for sure, without us there will be no victory.
The issues that have been brought up between the two candidates have created two very strong campaigns with millions of supporters on each side galvanized against the other.
My reasons for voting for Clinton over Obama have not changed. If it is a choice between the two I will choose Clinton every time. But that is not the way this fight is playing out. The score cards are being added up and I can almost see the referee lifting Barack's arm in victory. And so it goes.
So here I am, coming over to the enemies camp preparing to call you my friends, and wondering how I am going to be treated. Worried about all the same things I was worried about before. Apprehensive about Barack and his abilities to do what he says he can do. Scared to think about what could happen if he cant. Knowing that if he stumbles his opponent will knock him out and understanding that if he should fail the hope and dreams of us all will fail with him.
