As a member of the healtcare community -- it occurs to me that as a country - we can do a better job of on-going prevention and managing exisiting healthcare conditions at a local level. Similar to the "minute clinic" idea that is being presented at a variety of drug stores -- the government could provide clinics within a neighborhood to address on-going general health concerns and provide support to manage chronic diseases including preventative measures and education for improved overall health. These sites could be staffed by people in the community (eg - a location for students/educators to provide learning opportunities) so that neighbors would get to know others in their community who struggle w/ similar issues and build rapport with the staff. Imagine the resource for studies of Americans w/ chronic diseases based on their demographics. These clinic settings could include more than physicians and nurses - but therapeutic services from occupational therapists and physical therapists, nutritionists, etc. Perhaps there would be a way for all insurance companies to allow for members to attend these. Just a thought on one way to make healtcare and prevention more accessible to all. - C
