All I have to say is this socialism argument the repulicans are pushing is definitely sticking with some late deciding voters. Barack needs to treat these allegations more seriously because there are people out there foolish enough to be scared by them. He needs to say, "It's funny Sarah Palin has the audacity to call me a socialist when the last time I checked Alaska was the most socialist state in the union. I actually heard a rumor that John and Gov. Palin have been using a Ouija board to get advice from the late Senator McCarthy. I guess the rumor must be true!"
Isn't it Alaska that puts a windfall profit on oil revenues and "spreads the wealth around" to the people. That sounds a lot like what Hugo Chavez does in Venezuela. Isn't it Alaska that gets more federal money per person than any other state in the union and since they don't pay state income tax some of the wealth that is being spread around is at the cost of ALL AMERICAN TAX PAYERS!!!
This socialism line is on its face a stupid argument, but unfortunately some people are taking it seriously - therefore, so should we! Call Sarah Palin out for being a socialist herself, make her defend the claim!
Barack, please stop conceding to McCain on the success of the so called "surge". At a critical juncture in the fight against Islamic terrorism the surge made our country LESS SAFE by allocating so many of our troops to Iraq that it left us without enough troops left over to respond to events outside of Iraq like the strengthening of al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Even Admiral Mullen admitted that we could not send more troops to Afghanistan because they are tied up in Iraq (7-22-08, Mullen says troops would have to be withdrawn from Iraq before added to Afghanistan on the News Hour, see link below, it's about two-thirds the way through the interview. Mullen also "strongly endorses" the idea to pursue diplomacy with Iran). Moreover, it has significantly weakened our influence in the international arena, which was displayed to the world in our relatively impotent actions in response to Russia's invasion of Georgia. Barack, stop conceding the upper hand on this issue to Senator McCain! He was wrong and you were RIGHT!!! Don't forget that your stance on the war originally was impressive because most people supported the war. Don't let the American people, who were coming to terms with their mistake in supporting this effort, fall into a misguided sense of vindication or a false belief that an occupation can be "won." The surge put our military and our military families too close to the breaking point and showed a lack of focus on events going on in the world outside of Iraq.
And to Senator McCain: Americans take great pride in the courage and bravery of the men and women serving in our military and in their ability to win any battle they take on. But in the history of the world no great power has ever "won" an occupation. That's because you can't win an occupation, you can only end one! Let's get Barack into the White House to get that done.
