What follows is my Candidate Statement as a candidate for delegate to Assembly District 6 of the California Democratic Party. I invite you to consider my voice and to vote for me.
The sixth assembly district comprises all of Marin County and southern Sonoma County. The AD-6 election will be held Sunday, January 11 at the Marinwood Community Center (775 Miller Creek Rd., San Rafael map). All Democrats registered in AD-6 in time to vote in the 2008 general election are eligible to participate.
Registration runs from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 3:30. You must be registered (signed-in) and in the room by 3:30 to participate. If you cannot stay for the meeting, you can sign-in, vote and leave between 1:15 and 3:30. You can also pre-register here until January 10 to save time.
Thanks for your vote!
I am a disabled married gay buddhist European American whose first language was French. Our family lived in Europe before moving to Terra Linda in 1955, where I attended kindergarten and first grade. We also lived in Montgomery, Alabama; Walpole, Massachusetts; and at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
At Palo Alto High School I studied Chinese and East Asian history, and was voted Most Radical, class of 1969. My first political campaign was in 1966, against Ronald Reagan. My first political hero was Eugene McCarthy. During college years I pursued but did not complete degrees in marine biology and Tibetan studies. I also worked on a dairy farm and studied in a Tibetan monastery, in Switzerland.
After living in New York City for ten years, I returned to the Bay Area to care for both of my parents, and for a partner who died of AIDS at age 48.
I’ve worked and volunteered in a variety of fields – government, corporate, non-profit, proprietorship, as a mailman, secretary, financial analyst, loan administrator, volunteer and events coordinator, executive assistant, and office administrator – and volunteered in a number of Democratic presidential campaigns, including the Kucinich campaign of 2004.
I have been a Barack Obama supporter since his convention address of 2004, working on his campaign since February 2007. I am a Green Democrat who believes that politics must change in order to meet the needs of the people and the planet. I feel that Marin’s issues are traffic and transit, healthcare, housing, literacy, jobs and suburban sprawl.
My African American husband and I have been residents of Gerstle Park, San Rafael since 2001. We were married on Mount Tamalpais in 2005. Two years ago I survived a near-death accident after being struck by a speeding SUV in front of my home.
On January 11, I am hosting an Obama community organizing meeting and cannot attend the Assembly District Election Meeting, but I am eager and ready to serve as a delegate for district 6!
