The Future of Social Media in Politics

You don't have to be a software developer to be impressed with the way the Obama camp has embraced the internet. Social networks like Twitter, Facebook and this website have all contributed to an unprecedented level of transparency around the inner workings of this campaign. I'm interested to know if there are any plans to continue using these kinds of tools if or when Barack Obama wins the election, to continue this level of transparency into his presidency. The election is just the begining. It's going to take involved citizens to make real progress in this country. It would be a shame if, after the election, all of these channels went dark. The momentum and support being built up here should continue through the next four years. In other words - please don't make me delete the Obama app from my iPhone on November 5th. The icon is sweet.

I wish there were better ways to donate my time. Stuffing envelopes, calling, kocking on doors; these things are all great, but anyone can do them. I stopped by the local office the other day to find out if there were some other way I could help out, perhaps something relating to my career experience. Surely computers are an important part of the process. Who sets these computers up? Who keeps them running smoothly? Who do voluneers and office managers call for IT questions and support? I offered my off-hours time, but I doubt I'll hear back. It could be I've waited too long. I'm going to look into this matter further, to hopefully get a head start on future elections at the local, State and Federal levels.
