Carol Roller's Blog
I've been thinking about his speech on race ever since I heard him speak on Tuesday. I've thought about how many times we've all heard racial slurs or even blatant bigotry coming from people we know and may love, sitting at our own dinner tables. We've been living through a time of uncomfortable political correctness and I think the next step is to talk about all these elephants in the room. My daughter has a black boyfriend and she told me that one day he said his grandfather is a bigot. Her response was, that's fine. So is mine. So inflammatory ugly remarks are not new. And we can't isolate all the people who make them because they are part of the system, too. This is our opportunity to take some bold steps and may come up with something different for the future. What steps do we need to take to make that happen?
