This blog contains political opinions and policy ideas from California. We do some things very well here, and some things very poorly. I am in a good position to write a blog like this as I am also the developer of a business network- the California Trade Network, and a business report: the California International Business Report (both can be found at www.CalTrade.com), and get just about every news feed imaginable. I don't plan any in depth analysis here - just quick hit ideas and thoughts in the hope that someone in the Obama administration might occasionally take notice.

Website transition from winning election to political action

Hi - this site seems to be doing a rather poor job of transitioning from winning the election to political action. That is not a criticism, it is an observation. The "MyObama" page for my account still has this notice:

"Help Barack get to the finish line by calling voters!

Call Pennsylvania!
Call Florida!
Call Ohio! "

I had a policy idea today I wanted to communicate and found it to be somwhat ackward. Who are the developers of this site? Will this be one of the primary sites for polical and community action - or will that be done elsewhere?

IDEA: Register the Uninsured

Maybe someone is already doing this, but why doesn't someone start an online database where people would register as Americans without medical insurance. I was inspired by this thought by a local group helping the homeless here in San Diego with a MLK day effort called "know their names". I didn't attend, but it struck me as a very good first step. Somewhat reminiscint of what Marla Ruzicka of code pink did in Iraq where her goal was simple to "count" those killed and then try to get the families aid in a non-judgemental way. A database of the uninsured run by the goverment or a responsible non-profit would be a good first step. I am not insured right now and I know I would register, and I think many others would also - maybe after it has been established, medical professionals could more easily volunteer to help people in their own neighborhoods. This is something we could do right now even before Congress passes any kind of public health insurance - plus it would be quite a constituancy.
