Hi Guys,Right now I'm blogging from the Obama camapign headquarters office in Elko, Nevada. Three of my fellow Utah for Obamans made the four-hour trip from Salt Lake City for the weekend. Some of the local supporters are putting us up for the night. Our host, Mable, is the sweetest, nicest woman ever. She feeds us like kings. We woke up this morning to french toast, eggs, and ham. Needless to say, it was to die for. And the campaigning was awesome. The precinct leader I canvassed with and I broke a record. Six pledge cards in one day! We actually managed to convert a couple Republicans... and everybody was so nice. It's my first time canvassing at all... and it was great!
More later,
Brad
Last night, the Utah chapter of Generation Obama held its first fundraiser at the Woodshed, a local Salt Lake City nightclub. It was a really awesome time. In lieu of cover charge, patrons were asked to make a $5 contribution to the campaign. I'm happy to report, we raised nearly $500 dollars. A representative from the Utah Democratic Party addressed the crowd and a local band provided the entertainment. I'm sure this is just the beginning of more events like this.
I've been waiting all day to post about this. Obama's fundraising totals from the 1st quarter were EARTH SHATTERING! The fact that he was, more likely than not, able to top Hillary's fundraising totals for the primary says so much about Obama's candidacy. As great as the money total was, I find the more fascinating figure to be the 100,000 people who donated. Despite Hillary's fundraising machine and her husband, enough people got behind Barack and it MADE A DIFFERENCE! Most of Hillary's money came from large donors, who may already be tapped out, whereas Barack can keep going back to his small donors.
It's also important to remember, that as great as this is, we can't rest on our laurels. The opponents are going to come back fighting. This is just the first of many steps. keep the donations coming! Let's go for more victories in Quarters 2, 3, and 4. It was proven today that REAL PEOPLE can make the difference, so let's keep it up!
