I recently emailed all the principals in our area asking if they’d consider helping out with getting students (who’d be 18 by the time of the general election) registered to vote. After calling my local Board of Elections to confirm that all of this was OK (the call lasted all of 30 seconds and YES it was AOK for our area), I asked the principals if they would: • include a blurb about the importance of registering to vote in their newsletters, along with info on where to register • include a link to the Board of Elections in any relevant emails that were going out to families so they could get info and voter registration forms online
• put out blank voter registration forms in their offices
I’d like to encourage everyone to do this as it is an easy way to catch unregistered students. As always, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR BOARD OF ELECTIONS OFFICE BEFORE UNDERTAKING ANY SORT OF VOTER REGISTRATION ACIVITY to make sure you know the rules and regulations in your area. Here are the links to the offices: FIND VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS AND READ UP ON ANY REQUIREMENTS YOU MAY NEED TO FULFILL FOR REGISTERING VOTERS IN YOUR STATE.
