Here's a couple of points I'd like to make. #1 Al Sharpton IS NOT the voice of the black people. He made it a black and white issue which divided us more. While his efforts can be thanked for bringing attention to this horrible matter, the way he went about doing it was wrong. He certainly did not help the situation. He cannot play the one sided race card for every situation, march and boycott. Maybe back in the 60's that worked but, enough already. It's even less effective when he has a hidden agenda. He is not an honest man of good character. Perhaps he had Good intentions - but good intentions also paved the road way to hell. #2. The deplaurable things that Don Imus said he should be held accountable and responsible for because he's the one that said it. It is wrong for him to blame an entire group of rap entertainers ( history lesson: Hip hop is a culture, a movement - Rappers are the entertainers in that culture that create rap music). Here's the big difference between Don Imus vs. Rap Entertainers - Don Imus is the ONLY ONE that said racial and sexist comments to the Rutger's Basketball team and the rappers didn't! Huge difference! This was his last ditch effort to take an entire group of people down with him and to take the spot light off of him. Again the blame game instead of being responsible for the things you do - it would be different if DOn Imus were 2 yrs old - I think by now Mr. Imus knows damn well what he said and where he got it from and I seriously doubt he listens to RAP music! #3. Here is something to think about- we all have a right to say what we want, whenever we want to - It is our constitutional right! All because we have that right it should not be abused ... and it doesn't mean that you have the right to offend and be malicious to any one or any group what ever category we may fall in. Also know that in different settings you can get away with different things like the way you talk at home on the phone with your friends. I'm sure you don't talk to coworkers and customers the same way- RIGHT? I can't go to work and say offensive things to people if I did I would get in big trouble or be fired. I think what this boils down to is a fundamental understanding and respect of everyone's culture - like the law there is no room for ignorance, it is what it is. So understand this - when white people speak amongst white people whether you're joking or arguing and you say for example red neck or cracker, PWT, or whatever, No one says that the other white person is a racist - WHY? because you share the same culture and struggles. When Jews speak to other Jews and say derogatory things to each other - the Jews doesn't say to the other Jew hey you're a racist- they don't get mad WHY? because they share the same culture and struggle NOW when Blacks talk to other blacks and they say Nigga ie: NOT NI**ER there is a difference or Bi**ch. We just like everyone are within our culture comfort zone. That's why rappers say it's ok for other blacks to say derogatory comments in their rap music because they are within their own race culture because we share the same realities and struggles. So when you say "well the rappers demean and degrade women in their own race and culture" that's the thought process behind it. As soon as another race goes and disrespects another race or culture that when it becomes offensive, and racial. It's not right but that is the outcome of history you can't change it you can only understand it and respect it and don't repeat it. I think we should all need a good cleaning our own back yards. More of a reason why I think Obama can bridge the racial divide in this country! Hopeful that we can all change and learn to respect everyone.
