Barack continues to draw huge crowds all over New Hampshire on the last day before the primary.
Early in the morning, hundreds of people braved the slushy snow.
How early? Just watch...
Greetings from Exeter, New Hampshire.
Yes, it's that Exeter..
You know, everywhere we've been, we've seen these enormous crowds. Something is in the cold New Hampshire air. Take a look.
Most of you will be familiar with Portsmouth, NH as the home of John Paul Jones, hero of the American Revolution. Yesterday at the Portsmouth public library, a different man was fighting a much different battle, though one just as essential, for a sustainable and sensible energy policy.
Watch the clip below to learn more.
Five years ago today, here in Chicago, Barack Obama took a strong stand against the American invasion of Iraq.
Although Barack is, as Ted Sorensen pointed out this morning, the only major Democratic candidate to oppose the war from the start, he is not alone. Millions of Americans agreed with Barack’s position in 2002. Millions more agree with him in 2007.Only 13 seconds of Barack’s 2002 speech remain on video. We’ve recreated this excerpt with the help of supporters from all over the country.
Greetings from Indianola,
the seat of Warren County, home of the National Balloon Classic, and site of the 2007 Harkin Steak Fry.
The steak fry, now in its 30th year, is a valuable chance for Iowans to get to know the Democratic contenders. Tom Harkin (D-IA), having hosted this event 29 times previously, runs a solid show. You might even say that the Steak Fry has become the National Balloon Classic of Iowa political events.
Barack was a featured speaker and a highlight of last year’s Steak Fry. We’re hoping to make 2007 even better by attracting as many of the Senator’s supporters as we can. Check out the video:
There will be something for everyone at the Steak Fry. In case you found the video a little meat-heavy, we've included a delicious recipe for mashed potatoes after the jump. Bon appetit, everybody.
For those of you who are still in the cynical camp, these four individuals may just help take the edge off your despondency.
Remember to keep your eye on these folks over the next 10 days. We will be posting profiles of them as well as our presentation of their dinner with Barack Obama. They are from such different places but had no trouble engaging in genuine communication. I hope you find their conversation as valuable as Barack did.
Here is a little something to tide you over until the full video is done. We call it "Dessert with Barack":
Greetings from Nashua,
the birthplace of Mandy Moore, the former home of both Jack Kerouac and the Nashua Dodgers (the first baseball team to integrate), and the site of Dinner With Barack New Hampshire.
The chance to sit down for a meal with four supporters from across the country was the perfect conclusion to an incredible, exhausting day of events, speeches, and parades.
Gabrielle Grossman, Brittany Washington, Michael Wilson, and Dorothy Unruh shared a meal and a conversation with Barack at Nashua institution, Martha's Exchange. All four are low-dollar grassroots donors to the campaign -- the life-blood of a movement that refuses to rely on lobbyists.
The quartet shared their life experiences and suggestions with the Senator. They touched on the war in Iraq, health care, education, and why babies like saying “Obama”.Stay tuned for more in-depth profiles of our guests over the next week as well as a full-fledged dinner video experience.
And if you can pull your eyes away from that gorgeous spring hue (the GAP refers to it as lima bean) you will notice that we are backstage at the Daily Show. I’m perfectly serious; take a look at the genuine Daily Show floor:
I know. Very cool.
The reasons for the season were these two ladies pictured below:
Raina Moore (to your left) is a Spanish Teacher in Rochester, NY. She has an impressive background with the Foreign Service. You should ask her about it. Raina is passionate about Immigration issues, having spent time working in Mexico. We hope to bring you some of that conversation in video form soon. Really interesting stuff.Alyson West (to your right) is the owner of a small business that helps other small businesses. If that sounds like a bunch of inside baseball, I assure you, it is not. In an era where so few young people can count on long-term jobs in major American companies, Alyson contends that they must engage their entrepreneurial side to prosper. They've been the best of friends since they met at Spelman College.
Raina and Alyson joined Barack for a taping of the Daily Show in which the Senator was a guest.
Did I mention that they are some of the funniest people I ever met?To justify that claim I am going to embed this video of Alyson singing John Ashcroft’s “Let the Eagle Soar”, rather than some Daily Show clip. I anticipate no complaints.
They are v. good on the issues too. More video from this remarkable pair up soon.
Greetings from Waterloo: home of the Blackhawks, the Bucks, the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum, and the site of the Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO Convention.
Barack will be addressing this audience of concerned American workers later in the afternoon. Stay tuned for clips from Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. (Named after five sons who all died aboard USS Juneau during World War II.)
