For most of this campaign, at least the beginning of it, I was only able to hear what was going on through word of mouth and the occasional chance to read a newspaper.
Now I'm glad that I keep myself updated, to the minute.
This election is the first that I have felt strongly about. Granted, I'm only 22, so this is only my second time voting.
There are many reasons why I feel passionate about this campaign.
As a 22 year old college student, who lives off of SSDI, independent from her family - the future looks to hold thousands of dollars of debt when my education is done. I'm a Psychology major as well as working on my pre-med prerequisites - that alone will cost a large amount of money. That isn't including when I get to medical school, which we all know will cost even more. The cost of education is getting so high that at times I honestly start to think if it's worth it - however, I will not give up on my goal.
Although I would love it if homosexuals could have the right to marry, I would love for the chance to at least be seen as equals to heterosexuals. Just because I love someone of the same sex - that doesn't make me different from anyone else in terms of rights, emotions, etc.
I have several medical conditions. Some are incurable and some are just tenuous to treat. I've had to go months without insurance which only had my pile of bills growing higher. I can't stop treatment, yet I couldn't afford to see my providers at the same time. So, I took the chance of owing thousands upon thousands of dollars in order to ensure my life. I am on state insurance, which is frustrating as I am 22 with diseases which are tricky to treat, yet when my mom had cancer she was denied state insurance and later died.
But I think about many who are in my condition who do not have insurance. Who don't have the finances to get the help that they need and it deeply saddens me. I know what it's like to suffer without any hope of things getting better. That isn't a way someone should live.
I am willing to do what I can to help out in this election.
I want to help create the change that we are going to make.
