What's the deal with all these car companies expecting our respective governments to bail them out?
Do other companies benefit from such outlandish - not to mention exhorbitant! - whims?
Oh, granted, they 'create' employment...
Why don't these same car companies cut back on their own expenses?
You know? The lavish weekend family dinner, passed off as a meeting luncheon? The boat or expensive car? What's to say of their expensive meeting menus; catered Breakfasts, Meeting Lunches, etc? Why don't these companies' executives drive Cavaliers in lieu of BMWs, thereby ENCOURAGING their OWN COMPANY's products? Oh come on!! I KNOW you all know what I'm talking about!
Further... Why don't they throw the unions out and cut salaries, in lieu of jobs, before coming crying for money?
Talking about job cutting: Why should a line employee make as much as a doctor does? Have they put in the same efforts and/or made the same kinds of sacrifices - if any at all - to get their job? Have they even graduated from high school? Then why the heck are they even making so much money? It's ridiculous!! If these employees don't want to lose their job, why don't they just agree to a pay cut. A fifty percent paycut would put their salaries back to what these should have always been and this, at their very ceiling!
I'm sorry if my heart doesn't bleed for line workers but, come on!!! Why should line workers make so much in the first place? This makes no sense at all.
Further, if our governments give these car companies the 39 or so billion dollars they are currently 'begging' for, who is to say that in six months from now, once all of these companies' shareholders have PAID THEMSELVES, these same companies will not end up closing anyway? Who is this money going to bail out? The employees or the shareholders?
And once they file for bankcruptcy - who will foot THAT bill, absorbing 39 or so billion dollars worth of Loss? Huh-huh... You starting to see a picture forming in your mind now? It'll be you, me, your neighbour, my neighbour, in short, we'll ALL be footing that bill so that some shareholders' investment gets reimbursed and so THEY don't file PERSONAL BANKCRUPTCY!! This is insane!!
1. If I had any say in this matter, I would ask they close their doors, re-open under some other name and start off with new, NON-UNIONIZED employees, working at a decent but NORMAL salary.
2. I would then DEMAND they scrap all current models and designs so as to concentrate their efforts on the design and marketing of electric cars - and electric cars ONLY!! - therefore making it impossible for people to buy gas-guzzling engines any longer.
3. I would also want to make sure said funds would go for these things - and these things ONLY - and not to provide shareholders with 'golden parachutes' (You thinkin' of jumpin' out, while letting the rest of your people burn? I hope you can flocking fly, Buddy, 'cos you ain't gettin' no damned parachute, never mind a golden one, Fly Boy!). That way, if shareholders stood to lose as much as their employees, maybe they'd move their collective arse and actually do something worthwhile for a change - a long overdue change!
4. If these companies would still go bankcrupt, I would hold ALL shareholders responsible for the reimbursment of the TOTALITY of said debt.
5. Severe amendments to corporate law are indeed required... This would be my first step towards amending these. It's become far too easy for people to rob us all blind lately... They rob us of our health by KNOWINGLY producing and then marketing bad products, for profit. Things aren't all that bad when it is only money they are robbing but... When it is our health... No... SERIOUS amendments to corporate law are waaay overdue. It's about time people started TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for ALL they endorsed, financially and/or otherwise!

I'm a Canadian and though this website may not really be my 'rightful place', I nonetheless very much appreciate the fact you (and myself) are herewith abled to voice our opinions and ideas in this format - How incredibly refreshing!! How genial! A collection of ideas!! A massive Brainstorm! I love it, I absolutely do! I find this brilliant!
I just wanted to voice my thoughts about a few things your fine new President uttered, during his inauguration, last January (2009)...
President Obama spoke of Change, encouraging ALL to participate, to bring forth their bravest ideas... I just wanted to add the following words to his brilliant speech:
One doesn't have to be Mother Theresa or a millionnaire or necessarily anyone in power in order to participate to actual Change.
In a sense, Change is very much like a raging forest fire, where all that is required to start an unstoppable and quite contagious fever is but a single spark!
EACH OF YOU has this power to ignite, to enrapture, to actually be at the very beginning of an enormous - and long-overdue - movement!
Take your pick! What would YOU like to see change in YOUR world?
Make a list!
Seriously, make one and just post THAT somewhere here and wait for someone to come up with an idea, if you don't currently have one!
In doing so, YOU could be that very Spark! The one that ignites a passionate and quite determined fire, so to speak.
You could be the initiator, the Pioneer (and this, without even having tried to do anything at all), of some radical and way overdue change in our world.
