Not too long ago, I signed up for an account on Daily Kos so I could post comments. I didn't think I would post my own diary there, but I did that today. I posted about an item from Salon.com about a detainee at Guantanamo who is dying because he hasn't gotten appropriate healthcare. That would be bad if it were just any detainee, but this one has already been cleared of being a terrorist and still hasn't been released. Here is the Salon.com post: http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/03/14/sick_in_guantanamo/. Here is my diary at Daily Kos: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/16/14392/5910/1000/478017.
I also wrote to Senators Murray and Cantwell, and to my congressman, Representative Reichert. [Darcy Burner for Congress WA-08!]
Thank goodness Senator Obama will restore the rule of law and end these things that make me wonder what country I live in.
I have a friend who comes over to watch the returns from the primaries with my husband and me. He was here on Super Tuesday, and for the Potomac Primaries, and will be here this Tuesday for the returns from Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont. I would like to have more people, but I'm not sure I have the energy to have an organized party. My friend who comes over was, I think, inclined to support Hillary, but he is becoming more enthusiastic about Obama. I am making my Obama support more visible. I am adding a link to my personal web page and will be sure to promote my site wherever I can. I am also supporting Darcy Burner's campaign for the 8th District seat in the House of Representatives, and will try to combine any volunteering I do so that both benefit.
If anyone wants to come by on March 4th to watch the results, feel free to email me for directions. I would be happy to have a few people. I'm in the Lake Meridian area of Kent (47th Legislative District). See you at the LD Caucuses!
I have taken the first steps to participating in our political system. I joined this website, joined some groups, signed up to volunteer, and have now created my first blog. I expect getting Barack Obama elected will be hard work but I think it will be fun and rewarding as well.
I had toyed with the idea of supporting Joe Biden. I have a lot of respect for him. But I think the time has come for someone from outside the beltway, and Barack Obama has the charisma, the intelligence, the education, and I hope the broad appeal that will carry him all the way to the White House.
I am looking forward to meeting with local supporters and contributing whatever skills I have to this campaign.
