What NAFTA has meant to me? It has meant my families income was cut in half.... It means my husbands college education is worthless and one shouldn't bother to further oneself, because you will only be employed at the Home Depot, Radio Shack or Walmart.
With 15 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer, working for a variety of prestigious companies, helping to design the Mars space probe retractable arm and other robotics. My husband's career and education was swept away with the signing of pen. The NAFTA agreement, meant American companies could hire engineers in India or other places for a small fraction of the price they were paying the engineers in the US. My husband went from making $85,000+ a year to making just over $20,000. He eventually went back to trade school to become an HVAC Technician, making around $34,000 today. What NAFTA taught; not only my generation, but the generation of our children is, that if you have a dream and you work hard to make it a reality, the Government will indeed find a way to pull it out from under you. if you feel that education, will give you a better way of life; you are wrong.
Between NAFTA and No Child Left Behind; it has told our youth, just settle for Walmart, Radio Shack or Home Depot because we are not investing in Americans. We don't want your creativity, your imagination or your ingenuity. We want you to simply conform to the standardized test. Nothing more, nothing less.
