I am old enough to vividly remember the IRA and the Northern Ireland conflict. I used to watch the BBC news back then as the voice of the political wing of the IRA Sinn Féin's leader Gerry Adams was replaced by that of an actor because the BBC would never broadcast the voice of a "terrorist" organization. While we all have a variable opinions on the right and wrong of Northern Ireland conflict or the political wing of the IRA Sinn Féin, one lesson is NOT to be disputed in history and I hope the fear mongers will realize it: Peace in Northern Ireland would have NEVER been a reality if the UK government would have not changed its stance against Sinn Féin and engaged in permanent peace negotiations. The government of Hamas is a political wing that won the elections in the occupied Palestine fair and square. Thus they do represent the elected government and sooner or later they have to be included at the negotiation table just like the UK included the IRA. If you truly think that Hamas is an extreme listen to the thugs of Al Qaida leaders (Zawahri and Bin Laden) blasting Hamas for trading their guns with political positions. Do we really want to send the signal to those people that there is no use in joining the negotiation table for a peaceful resolution? There are also the Palestinian Jihad movement who would love to se Hamas effort collapse because the Jihad NEVER believed in political reforms or putting down the weapons in exchange for peace. So, I believe with all the rhetoric aside, even ACCORDING to McSame, there is no way Hamas can be excluded from a political solution for the Middle East conflict even if it YES means that they are given a seat at the negotiating table. President Carter realizes that. It's my humble opinion and I have been wrong often, that it is the time to end the Cowboy policy and the tit for tat violence that consume lives and wealth and can destroy any hope for peace in the future.
