I. Change Ignited
Change ignited knows few rules;
Invites the sparks to flame.
Change ignited purples the blues,
Transforms reds to confused hues.
Change ignited burns untamed
Fueled by hope and tenacity
Change ignited a healing flame,
Burns with unfamiliar name.
Maybe I was like so many are today, without clarity on what Change would look like. It ceratinly burns with unfamiliar name. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, HR.1 sounded familiar until you read it. Wow. I'm actually impressed that it will provide an investment in the America that voted for President Obama. Imagine that. Nothing is trickling down this time.
I was looking at old magazines and only four months ago conventional wisdom agreed Barack Obama was a longshot.
The results from March 4th are why we can and will win this election. It is the audacity in the hope. It is a reminder to us that this change that inspires must also strengthen.
We are ahead in this race because Barack Obama understood and focused on winning. He didn't pull out old worn strategies or traditions. He didn't focus on just winning the big states, avoid the red states, write off the folks that "never" vote or take any vote for granted. He envisioned he could unite the America that still believes in the American idea. Yes We Can.
Barack Obama developed a strategy and took action. He inspired over a million individual Americans to invest in his vision that America still can. He reminded politicians of the difference they thought they'ed make and had long forgotten. He convinced the wealthy that there is enough to share. He added Uniting America to professionals' resumes. And he woke up those of us that slept comfortably in the American Dream and reminded us that we can not afford to rest.
We need Barack Obama to refuel for a day or two with his family. Then we need him to call together his team and lead the fight he is winning using HIS arsenal of hope, intellect, innovation, and inspiration. It IS about words. It is about the words that articulate the reason for the urgency; the words that articulate our belief that a united America can take on its economic challenges and inequities and win; the words that convince we can make a difference today that will change our future. We need Barack Obama to continue to believe in and fight for his vision of change politics and to resist the temptation (and advice) to engage in old school political tactics. This campaign can not become familiar or comfortable because:
This is not conventional, it is transformational. Yes we can
This is not a negotiation, it is a declaration. Yes We Can
This is not what is best for the Party, it is the reason for the Party. Yes We Can!
It is not about the math, it's just plain old arithematic. YES WE CAN!
