I've been in a financial hardship for the past several months due to a major job loss. In this time, I have consistently put in resumes, conducted follow-up calls, and made in-person visits hoping to land a stable position. Unfortunately, the economy is not cooperating with me; nor are prospective employers, who can't afford to take on more workers. So here I am...I'm hanging on by a thread but I still believe that our President, for whom I voted, is still going to turn this country around in a positive way.
That's why it's so critical that even if you're not in the best financial shape, healthy constitution, or otherwise, we must ALL do our part by participating in EVENTS that make a statement and create a buzz to generate REAL support for the issues in which we believe. My primary goal is to get a universal health care program installed in our governmental system -- if all else fails, I'll opt for the public option -- meanwhile, some politicians and media talking heads are trying to say that it can't be done.
They're trying to say that we "can't" have it.
They're trying to say that they don't care about us.
They're trying to say that we don't matter.
Well, we DO MATTER. And God willing, if we put our hearts, minds, and spirits together, we CAN get this thing off the ground. Sittting at home yelling at the news channel is not going to accomplish anything. Sitting at our desks, keying rants and raves about how we feel is not going to get it done.
The ONLY WAY we CAN GET REAL HEALTH CARE REFORM is if we PUT OUR THOUGHTS and WORDS to ACTION. Participate in events, organize events, help orchestrate a candlelight vigil, a rally, a sit-in, a march...DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to MAKE THEM LISTEN.
We will not go gently into the night. We will not fade into the sunset...TODAY IS OUR TIME. WE ARE THE ONES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! LET'S GET GOING!!!
Peace!!!
Poetry for Obama (GOTV Strategy Meetings)Share your Obama experience with words -- poetry to be more precise. Use any form you'd like -- haiku, ballad, free verse -- you name it, you can use it. Let's put together a beautiful collection of poetry depicting our meetings, feelings, or whatever you feel about Obama and/or Biden. We want a lot of positive energy going into this election and the more kind things we can communicate through poetry and prose, the more we will attract positive energy to this campaign and the election. Looking forward to seeing your work on here and anywhere you can post online. :) Let's publish our positive thougths and poetry ALL over the Internet. Keep the submissions coming!

BOOMER FOR CHANGE
As a child of the 50's,
I witnessed the hate.
As a young girl in the 70's
I joined the debate.
As I reached middle age
my voice grew still.
Now in this new century,
thank God, we have a man
that YES WE CAN.

There comes a time in every person’s life when he must choose between right and wrong. Ultimately, this decision will not come easy, nor should it be based upon preconceptions or conformed views and values that have been impressioned upon us. The choice between right and wrong will be fraught by men and women from all walks of life – every age, every creed, every hierarchy, every religious denomination or non-denomination – every one. This choice is not about being with us or with them, rather, coming together to form one united voice of reason. E Pluribus Unum – out of many, one; and that is what will make all the difference in not only our lives, but our entire lifetime and the legacies that we have born.
The decision will not be based on familiar standards of marred prejudism, but upon the essence of achieving a common goal with the intention of rising to meet the higher moral ground. For what and who are you really voting? Before you answer that question, I want you to carefully contemplate your decision. Notwithstanding popularity, are you basing your opinion and thoughts on past reverences? More over, is your opinion a reflection of you and your lifestyle?
Once, I met a wise, older clergyman, who told me the reason why man is mortal. He said that we, as the human race, live with two spheres of thought. He went onto say that we were created to self-destruct because we have not yet reached a state of absolute awareness and acceptance: The same mind that desires love is the same mind that creates war. The same mind that builds neighborhoods for the impoverished is the same mind that eagerly destroys communities. The same mind that openly gives at church is the same mind that covertly demands payment from the poor. The same mind that candidly preaches against immorality is the same mind that contentedly practices it. The moral of this quandary is that while human beings are born without preconceptions and prejudice, the more we grow in life, the more we are exposed to the external and internal “demons” that riddle our minds with negativity and disinformation.
As human beings, we analyze and process the information that is placed before us. In this modern age, we acquire data from immeasurable sources. While some of these records may be fact or fiction, statistically, we tend to navigate back toward our own preconceived views. It’s not that we intentionally seek to destroy our livelihood -- rather, because of the fear that has been ingrained in our hearts and minds; we so aptly migrate toward the negativity that exists around us, in us, and through us.
When you walk into the voting booth, ask yourself: who reflects me, my heart, and my mind? Think quietly to yourself and reach into the core of your emotional, logical, and spiritual sides. Remember, there are always two spheres of the mind at war with one another. The one side advocates hope, the other deflects it as the devil’s advocate. To what side of the sphere is your higher consciousness drawn?
If you are pro-life, you cannot be pro-war. Pro-life represents opposition to abortion, and right to life. However, many in the pro-life movement sardonically support the death penalty, are against euthanasia, and advocate the maiming and killing of innocent civilians in war time. Talk about double-standards. If you advocate economic growth, you cannot support tax cuts for the very wealthy and costly health insurance policies. When we truly learn how economic growth is stimulated (aside from trade), we discover that the reduction of poverty in this world is due to a number of reasons; including the humanist movement (volunteer organization that promotes nonviolence and nondiscrimination), the revolution of science, the spread of liberalism (social progress via reform and law changes; rather than by revolution), and rewarding labor and investments.
There are, of course, many reasons why individuals choose a particular candidate. Perhaps the choice is predominantly based on appearances; yet appearances can be quite deceptive- albeit, the safer choice for some. But let’s go beyond physical attributes, however. When we do, and we recognize the person for whom he or she is, and we really believe that the candidate represents who we are as individuals, then we should indeed vote our conscience. No man or woman has the power to control your freewill. That is the one spiritual feature, separate from organized religion, which distinguishes you and me from so many.
The God I know is a Divine catalyst, who offers a constant source of higher and inspirational wisdom. He does not expel people by the color of his skin; nor does He reward people for their monetary contributions. And when He views this world, He sees those who have advocated life and compassion on all realms of the equation. For in life, there are no true “rights” or “wrongs,” rather, an extraordinary journey into achieving a centered life that reflects your true intentions on the good that you can and will leave behind on this Earth.
For what and who are you really voting? Which of the two candidates reflect who you truly are? I, for one, believe in peace and equality for all people. The choice is clear; but are you ready to accept your inherent position in the higher evolution of mankind?I appreciate those who thought not of themselves, and took the valuable time to read this small token from my heart. My hope is that this piece of literature has made a positive impact on your life.

Tens of thousands of eligible voters have been removed from rolls or blocked from registering in at least six swing states, and the voters' exclusion appears to violate federal law, according to a published report.
The New York Times based its findings on reviews of state records and Social Security data.
The Times said voters appear to have been purged by mistake and not because of any intentional violations by election officials or coordinated efforts by any party.
States have been trying to follow the Help America Vote Act of 2002 by removing the names of voters who should no longer be listed. But for every voter added to the rolls in the past two months in some states, election officials have removed two, a review of the records shows.
The newspaper said it identified apparent problems in Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Nevada and North Carolina. It says some states are improperly using Social Security data to verify new voters' registration applications, and others may have broken rules that govern removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election.
Democrats have been more aggressive at registering new voters this year, according to state election officials, so any closer screening of new applications may affect their party's supporters disproportionately, the Times said.
The result is that on Election Day, voters who have been removed from the rolls could show up and be challenged by political party officials or election workers.
The six states seem to have violated federal law in two ways. Some are removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election, which is not allowed except when voters die, notify the authorities that they have moved out of state, or have been declared unfit to vote.
And some of the states are improperly using Social Security data to verify registration applications for new voters, the newspaper reported.
"Just as voting machines were the major issue that came out of the 2000 presidential election and provisional ballots were the big issue from 2004, voter registration and these statewide lists will be the top concern this year," said Daniel P. Tokaji, a law professor at Ohio State University.

Barack Obama WON this debate -- let's make sure we let him know that, and make sure we get him elected this Nov. 4!!!
Peace
My family and I watched the debate between the very-intelligent, strong, and take-charge Barack Obama and the contentious, grouchy old McCain. McCain constantly fell back on the "surge" and his "poor, little 'ole me -- feel sorry for me" ploy about his being a POW. If he has to run a campaign on a crutch, then he needs to be put in a old folks home where he belongs.
Obama WON this debate. Period.
Rasmussen, which was once upon a time a reliable voter polling organization can no longer claim itself to be bipartisan or neutral in the polling system. In a recent article on the Rasmussen Reports website, it is clearly notated that Rasmussen is clearly associated with FOX; which as we all know, is the most right-wing media organization.
Here is the article title:
FOX/Rasmussen Swing State Polling - September 21, 2008

Every time I turn on the news, there is such a shark-feeding frenzy for McPain and Scary Sarah that it literally makes me want to vomit. Recently, I heard a rumor that the "dead are going to come back to vote." Perhaps it is just idle gossip, but given the track record of this vile party, I imagine that this is yet another voter fraud tactic that they are planning on using (or are already using) come November.
McPain and Scary Sarah are lying, cheating, destructive, egomaniacal power-hungry politicians, who will stop at nothing to steal this election. I don't care what the polls are saying, there are way too many thousands of newly-registered voters, who are more than likely going to be voting for Barack Obama; and the news media outlets continue to use psychological NLP on the citizens who watch their programs.
I am SICK watching as McPain and Sarah Scary continue to drown out the public by literally STEALING slogans, philosophies, and ideas from Barack Obama. And NOONE says anything about it. No one calls them on their theivary and lies.
It's about time that the Americans take back this country and demand that ALL potential candidates get a psychological evaluation before even being considered for the job. Sarah Scary is a radical fundamentalist, who (if McPain died) would be more than happy to force the "revelation" in this country so the remaining few can flock to the "chosen land" of Alaska to be "saved" during the "rapture." This woman doesn't know where the line of religion starts or ends with regards to the government, and she will ultimately destroy this nation.
I don't understand how these two can continue to lie so much -- so publicly -- and the media is okay with this???? The public is okay with this???? If an indivdiual were caught lying or stealing or committing fraud on the job, I believe that person would be fired. It's not just morally and ethically wrong, it's illegal. We must demand that the news tell the WHOLE truth about McPain and Scary Sarah because this election is TOO important not to do so.
FYI:
Lose Your Home, Lose Your Vote
It's the ugliest attack on voting rights we've seen in recent history--if you live in Michigan and you're in danger of losing your home to foreclosure, Republicans will try to take away your right to vote.1
McCain's response? Silence. Like Bush in 2000 and 2004, he's trying to keep a safe distance from these tactics, while benefiting from them. McCain could end this with a phone call. But he won't.
It's voter-suppression at its worst. They're taking advantage of folks falling on hard times and using it for political gain--kicking people while they're down. It's time to hold McCain publicly accountable for this strategy.
Will you join us in outing McCain for not denouncing these tactics and invite your friends and family to do the same? It just takes a moment:
http://colorofchange.org/michigan08/?id=1864-322789
For years, Republicans have engaged in "caging"--challenging the eligibility of voters on election day to suppress turnout and intimidate voters.2 They'll often try to reject voters by claiming they don't live at the address where they're registered. This year, they've taken it to a new low--the chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County, Michigan said last week, "We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren't voting from those addresses."3
In other words, they'll target every voter whose house is on a foreclosure list, and challenge their voting rights on election day. But just because your name is on a list, it doesn't mean that you've lost your home or moved. In fact, many homeowners stay in their homes for months after the foreclosure process has begun, and some people are able to catch up on their payments and reverse the process.4
So why are Republicans illegally targeting homeowners who've had a tough time under Bush's economy? Because they know they're likely to vote for Democrats, and for Obama for President. In Michigan, over 60% of sub-prime loans were made to African-Americans.5 And in general, people who've been hit hard by the economy are less likely to vote for Republicans. This tactic won't just affect struggling homeowners--it will cause longer lines and delays at the polls for everyone that lives in a neighborhood with a high number of foreclosures. And that's the point.
After making the plan public, Michigan Republicans are backtracking and claiming they were misquoted.6 But everything indicates that these are exactly the kinds of tactics they'll use,7 and they're just trying to squash an embarrassing story.8
Similar tactics are being used across the country, but the McCain campaign simply sits in the background, quietly benefiting from voter suppression. The Obama campaign is fighting against this plan in the courts,9 but they need our help to expose these dishonorable tactics and make this a national story.
If enough of us step up and connect the dots, we'll give the press a reason to make the connection between McCain and what's happening in Michigan. And as we've seen in our other campaigns,10 when we stand together behind a clear message, the press covers it and moves our message forward.
Calling on McCain to publicly reject these tactics is just the first step in our campaign to shame the Republican Party for attacking the voting rights of struggling homeowners.

From the ColorofChange Team
I've discovered a few things about some people in this nation:
Thank God I'm voting for the people who are on the side of democracy and humanity: BARACK OBAMA/JOE BIDEN -- the ONLY wise choice for positive change in America.
John McCain has made it clear this week he doesn't understand what's happening on Wall Street any better than Barack Obama does. But on Thursday, he took his populist riffing up a notch and found his scapegoat for financial panic -- Christopher Cox, the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Christopher Cox.
To give readers a flavor of Mr. McCain untethered, we'll quote at length: "Mismanagement and greed became the operating standard while regulators were asleep at the switch. The primary regulator of Wall Street, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) kept in place trading rules that let speculators and hedge funds turn our markets into a casino. They allowed naked short selling -- which simply means that you can sell stock without ever owning it. They eliminated last year the uptick rule that has protected investors for 70 years. Speculators pounded the shares of even good companies into the ground.
"The chairman of the SEC serves at the appointment of the President and has betrayed the public's trust. If I were President today, I would fire him."
Wow. "Betrayed the public's trust." Was Mr. Cox dishonest? No. He merely changed some minor rules, and didn't change others, on short-selling. String him up! Mr. McCain clearly wants to distance himself from the Bush Administration. But this assault on Mr. Cox is both false and deeply unfair. It's also un-Presidential.
Take "naked" shorting, in which an investor sells a stock short -- betting that it will fall in price -- without first borrowing the shares he is selling from an investor who owns them. The SEC has never condoned the practice, and since 2005 it has clamped down on short selling in any stock that shows evidence of naked shorting. The SEC further tightened its rules against naked shorting just hours before Mr. McCain excoriated Mr. Cox for doing nothing.
The rules announced Wednesday will increase penalties and close loopholes that exempted broker-dealers from the rules against naked shorting. They also make it clear that deliberately selling short a stock whose shares cannot be borrowed is fraud under the Securities Exchange Act. That's all to the good, we suppose; fraud is fraud. But regular short selling is not fraud. It adds valuable information to the market about what investors believe to be the price direction of a stock. Demonizing short-sellers as a band of criminals, or barring short-selling outright in financial stocks, as regulators in the U.K. did Thursday, removes information from the market.
Then there's Mr. McCain's tirade against the "uptick rule," a Depression-era chestnut that investors could only short stock after a rise in that stock's price. The SEC staff studied the effect of the uptick rule on prices for years, in a controlled experiment involving thousands of stocks. It found the rule had no effect. Other studies, including those that examined the uptick rule's effect on stocks disclosing bad news, also found that it "protected" no one. The SEC's permanent staff has long supported repeal and the SEC's commissioners voted to do so unanimously in June 2007.
While he was at it, Mr. McCain added the wholly unsupported assertion that "speculators pounded the shares of even good companies into the ground." It wasn't very long ago that he blamed speculators on the long side for sky-high oil prices. Then oil prices fell. Now Mr. McCain wants voters to believe speculators are responsible for driving mismanaged financial companies to ruin. The irony is that this critique puts Mr. McCain in the same camp as some of the Wall Street CEOs who have led their firms so poorly. They also want someone (else) to blame.
In case Mr. McCain is interested, overall short interest in financial companies actually declined by 20% between July and the end of August. That's right: Far from driving this crisis, shorts were net buyers of financial stocks this summer, as they must buy stocks back to close their positions and realize their gains (or losses).
In a crisis, voters want steady, calm leadership, not easy, misleading answers that will do nothing to help. Mr. McCain is sounding like a candidate searching for a political foil rather than a genuine solution. He'll never beat Mr. Obama by running as an angry populist like Al Gore, circa 2000.

Just wanted to shed a little more light on this upcoming election from an actual newspaper reporter from the Nebraska State newspaper, the Omaha World-Herald. Below is the copy issued less than an hour ago through the AP (Associated Press). This interview was conducted by the Newspaper with Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In addition to his experience in the US Senate, Hagel was nominated in 1981 by then President Rondal Reagan to serve as the Deputy Administrator of the Veterans Administration - a nomination that was confirmed by the US Senate. He also served in Vietnam during 1968 in the US Army's 9th Infantry Division, where he earned two Purple Hearts and many other military decorations and honors (See Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel's full biography on his public senate website here: http://hagel.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Biography.Home)
GOP senator: A 'stretch' to say Palin is qualified
47 minutes ago
Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said his party's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, lacks foreign policy experience and called it a "stretch" to say she's qualified to be president.
"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials," Hagel said in an interview published Thursday by the Omaha World-Herald. "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."
Could Palin lead the country if GOP presidential nominee John McCain could not?
"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel said.
McCain and other Republicans have defended Palin's qualifications, citing Alaska's proximity to Russia. Palin told ABC News, "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."
Hagel took issue with that argument. "I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,'" he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."
Hagel, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has been a vocal critic of the Bush administration since the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
In July, Hagel traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Though he didn't expect to be asked, Hagel had said he would have considered serving as Obama's running mate.
Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 6,500, before becoming Alaska's governor in December 2006.
Palin visited soldiers in Kuwait and Germany last year and said in an interview with ABC News that her only other foreign travel had been to Mexico and Canada. She also said she had never met a foreign head of state.
Hagel told the newspaper that other governors have been elected to serve in the White House without experience in Washington. He said judgment and character were also important for the job.
"But I do think in a world that is so complicated, so interconnected and so combustible, you really got to have some people in charge that have some sense of the bigger scope of the world," Hagel said. "I think that's just a requirement."

MY RESPONSE EMAIL:
Abraham Lincoln said, "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."
Don't dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard-- consider this.-->
The John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007 Pub.L. 109-364 Federal law was changed in section 1076 so that the Governor of a state is no longer the sole commander in chief of their state's National Guard during emergencies within the state. The President of the United States will now be able to take total control of a state's National Guard units without the governor's consent.[17] Furthermore: The National Guard Bureau is in Arlington, Va., and is a joint activity of the Department of Defense to conduct all the administrative matters pertaining to the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. The current chief of the National Guard Bureau is Lieutenant General H. Steven Blum. The chief is the senior uniformed National Guard officer, in charge of developing all policies and advising the Secretaries and Chiefs of Staff of the Army and the Air Force on all National Guard issues. He is appointed by the President in his capacity as Commander in Chief. Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It's on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.--> Since World War II the Alaska Army National Guard had not seen significant overseas deployments of its Army National Guard. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion (GMD) is an Alaska Army National Guard unit that is permanently on active duty at Fort Greely, as part of the 100th Missile Defense Brigade (GMD). The 100th Missile Defense Brigade is commanded by HQ (Col. Roger Mathews, deputy commander for Operations of the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command/US Army Forces Strategic Command), which is located at Peterson AFB in Colorado -- NOT Alaska.
She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is. --> I don't think so. See accurate, reliable responses to each and every inacurate and falsified statement above.
Furthermore -- As an independent woman, mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and niece -- I do not respect any woman, who dares to take the rights of women away from them. While I do NOT personally condone abortion, I feel that rape and incest should always be exceptions to the rule. There is NOT one man that I know, who would HONESTLY be able to tolerate his wife, sister, or daughter being brutally raped and impregnated by a strange man or relative. If you are that man, who would willingly sacrifice his own convictions and pride, and be able to humbly expect that your significant loved one carry a stranger's child, then you are better than I. Furthermore, for an individual to make claims that Ms. Palin is so "informed" on homeland security and counter terrorism, he needs to get his facts straight. In the ABC interview, Ms. Palin could not give a simple answer to the question of the Bush Doctrine. Now, I am just an "average American voter" in America, and it serves me logically to KNOW what that Doctrine is. I can honestly say that I did KNOW what it meant. Palin did NOT. If she is so informed at foreign affairs and national security, I imagine that she would've been able to spit out an answer immediately. She incessantly repeats her "bridge to nowhere" line, (which is really making me ill), that McCain himself chastised months ago during his own campaign. Also, as an animal lover, I do not support women who actively engage in inhumane, so-called aerial sport or hunts. These are not sport nor hunts, but a rich man's form of entertainment. Additionally, being a woman, I am personally insulted to think that the media or the general public would believe that as a woman, I would willingly vote for an individual just because she is a woman. That is sexist in itself. Palin is the epitome of every thing that is wrong in these United States and is taking women backward instead of forward with her system of illogical ideologies. I would never vote for any one like her -- whether it be a woman or man.
Always in peace
This is a must-see video by Jon Stewart of the Daily Show demonstrating the right-wing perspectives of what "sexism" is -- and how it applies to democrats vs. republicans:

How could a story this BIG be missed by News Media outlets and the public????
In an August article by McCain supporter, Pat Buchanan -- Buchanan calls for Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden to investigate just exactly who started the Cold War II between Russia and the United States. If John McCain and Sarah Palin are such quality leaders, why then is Buchanan wanting Sen. Joe Biden, Vice Presidential candidate for future president ot the United States, Barack Obama, to be the one to investigate this issue? Evidentally, in a very important OP-Ed, Buchanan wrote about this dilemma, and did not call on his own party's candidate to help or direct such an important investigation? What does this say about foreign affairs and communication skills for John McCain and Sarah Palin?

If Cold War II is coming, who started it, if not us?
The swift and decisive action of Putin's army in running the Georgian forces out of South Ossetia in 24 hours after Saakashvili began his barrage and invasion suggests Putin knew exactly what Saakashvili was up to and dropped the hammer on him.
What did we know? Did we know Georgia was about to walk into Putin's trap? Did we not see the Russians lying in wait north of the border? Did we give Saakashvili a green light?
Joe Biden ought to be conducting public hearings on who caused this U.S. humiliation.
The war in Georgia has exposed the dangerous overextension of U.S. power. There is no way America can fight a war with Russia in the Caucasus with our army tied down in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nor should we. Hence, it is demented to be offering, as John McCain and Barack Obama are, NATO membership to Tbilisi...see FULL story here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/uc/20080819/cm_uc_crpbux/op_337089
