FOREIGN POLICY BREAKTHROUGH? THANKS TO BARACK OBAMA!!
1. The Bush administration is following Obama's foreign policy which he outlined as far back as October 2002, when he advised against invading Iraq and urged the US to pursue bin Laden and devote our energy to the war in Afghanistan.
2. In the same speech in 2002, Barack Obama, at the age of 41, urged the US to become independent of foreign oil. We would have been better off if Obama had been president back then. The Bush administration is finally coming around to Obama's position on the energy issue.
3. We have learned this week that the Bush administration intends to follow yet another foreign policy recommendation of Barack Obama by opening a US Interests Section in Terheran, Iran. An Interests Section is not a little hole in the wall, by the way. In Havana, the Cubans still refer the the US Interests Section as the Embassy, and it is the largest "embassy" building in Cuba, and the busiest.
Someone should tell John McCain, since he's the 'expert'. And let him know that Czechoslovakia divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia several years ago.
I do not trust the mainstream media. These TV personalities make 2, 3 , 4 amd 5 million dollars a year, and during the Bush years, Wolf Blitzer and Andrea Mitchell and Charlie Gibson and Anderson Cooper and Joe , Pat , David G, Chris M...have all made hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax breaks. Every talking head will LOSE money if Obama is elected because Obama has said he intends to tax people who earn more than $250,000 a year.
That includes EVERYONE who is telling us what is news. Everyone who decides what to put on the cover of a magazine. $250,000 is small change for most...If $2 million a year Candy Crowley can help get Mccain elected, maybe just by disparaging Obama a little here and there, she will get 4 more years of tax breaks for herself and her TV personality kids. That could add up to a million dollars extra for the Crowleys . All they need to do is manipulate the news instead of report it, and they get more money more money more money.
There is no other reason on earth that John McCain would ever get elected. He could not even get accepted to the University where Sen Obama taught Constitutional Law. As an undergrad, say nothing of Law School. He is reckless, dangerous, uninformed, and no war hero.
The millionaires who determine what we watch and what we read wanted Bush over Gore and Bush over Kerry and they want McCain over Obama for one reason: they want to get richer. The rest of the 295 million people in America will see their personal wealth decrease, and many will slide inexorably from the middle class into poverty as they lose their jobs, their homes, their self-worth, but the very few at the top of the food chain will get their tax breaks, fiddling as America burns.
I think we need to let the American people know just how much money Contessa Brewer has made as a result of the Bush tax breaks. How much more she will make if she can convince us not to vote for Obama. I think we need to show the American people a chart so they can see what has happened to the distribution of wealth in this country, how all the people making less than $70,000 a year have seen their actual buying power sinking during the Bush years, at the same time the people making a million or more a year, Andrea and Cokie Roberts, have made an extra million or 3 thanks to the big breaks for the rich.
The next time some 5 million dollar interviewer asks about Obama flipflopping, here is the answer, right up in their face......."John McCain is the one who has flipflopped. Now that he's running for president, he knew you millionaire TV stars wouldnt want your taxes raised. He knew he could get you to play along with him and talk all the people watching the TV to vote for him if he changed his position and did not raise your taxes. Just give you TV journalists who make a few million a year in salaries big tax breaks, and he can count on you to talk negatively about Obama the same way you did about John Kerry and Al Gore. "
NOT THIS TIME.....
John McCain throws away thousands of dollars at a time at the craps tables in Las Vegas, and lately, to avoid embarrassment, they bring the table to a private room for him.
He and the beer heiress own 10-15 multi-million dollar properties. He cannot use a computer, and he could not now, or ever, gain admission to a mid-level college in this country.
The top 1% of the population is much better off under the Bush tax breaks, and that top 1% wants to keep things that way. McCain has promised all the people who make over $250,000 that their tax cuts are safe. All of the TV personalities who call themselves journalists make this much and often millions. Perhaps it is no accident after all that Bush has beaten Gore and Kerry, and TV personalities like Pat Buchanan have jobs.
May 26 Poll
1. Are there enough women in key posts, or could we do a little better? A lot better?
2. #44 recently spoke of restoring a position from the Clinton administration, a Sec/State for the Western Hemisphere. I happened to be getting a hug (oh, happy day) from Bill Richardson right after I heard Obama's speech, so it was not a big leap to think how ideal a candidate Richardson would be for this new/restored position. Anyone have any history on this position?
3. Since I'm new to the group, Barack's Vice President & Cabinet , how do I vote in a poll? Do I have to vote on every position( CPSC,EQ,EPA,NOAA) to vote on any? I am not informed enough to submit a name in every position!
4. Off-topic. Speaking of voting. Americans born in Florida, New York, or Vermont, cannot vote in US elections if they move to Puerto Rico. Any lawyers in the house? I understand this arrangement is 100 years old, & there is money involved, but how is this constitutional?
OBAMA/DODD 2008
CHANGE + EXPERIENCE
TURN THE PAGE, BUT DON'T THROW AWAY THE BOOK
1. IT'S TOO SOON FOR OBAMA TO ANNOUNCE A VICE PRESIDENT. Normally, yes. But the issue was pressed on him by Clinton's supporters on June 3rd. the democrats should not let the divisive conversation continue all summer. The Democrats are now battling over VP candidates. We need a candidate who can unite the party, and we need to do this very very soon, before the Democrats tear themselves limb from limb.
2. DON'T WE NEED A WOMAN ON THE TICKET TO ATTRACT WOMEN VOTERS? Ah,The Harold Ford Jr. argument. I do believe the Clinton supporters would notice that the woman on the ticket was not the one who fought so hard through 54 contests. They view Sebelius and Napolitano as less-qualified women who would be jumping the line into the history books ahead of their first choice. Just as Obama fans do not consider all young brown politicians to be interchangeable, neither do HRC supporters view all successful women politicians to be interchangeable. The Sebelius/Napolitano/Kennedy talk infuriates Clinton supporters.
3. WHY IS SEN. DODD THE BEST CHOICE? Everyone would accept him as the most qualifed VP,with 33 years experience in congress. He has many friends and has formed many close bonds in Washington. The whole party would accept him as deserving, ready on day one. No one could dispute his bona fides. He has been vetted, and it would put an end to the divisive talk. Everyone, especially the press, would focus on Dodd, his EXPERIENCE, his FAMILY, and he has a thousand friends, and they would all want to weigh in. That would keep the media busy until the Olympics. Picture the interviews on the porch up in Hyannis at the Kennedy compound, Teddy with a hat over the bandages, supporting the choice, encouraging everyone to back the ticket.
4. BUT COULD HE DELIVER OHIO? WV? PA? KY? FL? NJ? At 64, he would reassure the older voters. He is a Catholic, and he also has a strong following among Jewish voters. He speaks fluent Spanish from his days in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic. The truth? I think the voters would like to hear that he admires this new brilliant guy and he has gotten to know him very well, but just in case, he'll be there to keep an eye on things, give him advice from time to time.
5. SOUNDS LIKE THEY SHOULD ANNOUNCE IN HYANNIS! No! No!No! Got to go downscale!
But I do believe it needs to be very very soon! Before the 4th of July. Any ideas for the rollout?
Can't be macho imagery...a ballgame. Can't be elite...a museum.
Ever since McCain became the Republican nominee, I have felt relieved, but I have been holding my breath. I think maybe his health will become an issue, andI fear Romney will become their top dog. Romney is hard to evaluate, but here's what I have come up with. He's silly putty. Remember that stuff? I mean no disrespect to the Governor. Hear me out. Mitt Romney possesses a formidable skill set that adapts to whatever it lands on, just as silly putty takes on the shape of whatever it lands on, melting or adapting.
When Romney landed on the Olympics, he brought his impressive set of skills to that organiization, and he earned well-deserved acclaim for his efforts. In the bluest state of Massachusetts, he earned grudging respect from many life-long Democrats, such as my sister, who admitted she would vote for him if he were the presidential nominee! Scary !
I can only conclude than when Romney lands on something essentially good, such as the Olympics, or Democratic Massachusetts, and he puts his formidable skill set to work, he can be successful. It is only when the silly putty landed on the Republican primaries, with all the candidates trying to out-conservative each other, that Romney ran into trouble.
But those movie star looks, the handsome family that he can send out to cover all 50 states, his beautiful wife whom he seems to adore as he did when she was a teenager.....
Even as a Vice Presidential candidate, he will be a force to be reckoned with. I am holding my breath that McCain stays in excellent health through election day. As for Barack Obama, my favorite candidate in forty years, I will feel much better once Chris Dodd is by his side.
TWO GREAT SIGNS THAT WE MAY HAVE OUR COUNTRY BACK ON TRACK! CHRIS DODD APPEARS IN AN ARRAY OF TOP TEN VP PICKS WHICH JUST FLASHED ACROSS THE SCREEN ON MSNBC. OF COURSE THIS MEANS NOTHING, BUT I WAS GLAD TO SEE HIM THERE. I BELIEVE THE SOONER PEOPLE ENVISION OBAMA AND DODD ,SIDE BY SIDE ,THE BETTER. FINALLY ON THE RADAR.
THE SECOND GREAT SIGN IS OBAMA'S CHOICE OF CAROLINE KENNEDY AS A MEMBER OF HIS 3-PERSON VP SEARCH TEAM. I HOPE CAROLINE SHARES HER UNCLE TEDDY'S RESPECT AND AFFECTION FOR CHRIS DODD.
I BELIEVE OBAMA WILL NEED HELP FROM CONGRESS, NOT ONLY FROM REPUBLICANS, BUT ALSO FROM DISGRUNTLED DEMOCRATS AND CHRIS DODD CAN HELP HIM NAVIGATE THE POLITICAL AND SOCIAL GAME IN WASHINGTON, BETTER THAN ANYONE. ANYONE BUT TEDDY THAT IS.
CHRIS DODD HAS BEEN READING WHAT I HAVE BEEN WRITING ABOUT HIM! OMG!
Chris Dodd and I agree that we need a team of executives who can GOVERN. I have been going without sleep to tell the Sebelius bloggers, the Webb bloggers, that we need to get #44 elected, but we also need to look at who can best govern our country.
OBAMA/DODD 2008 CHANGE + EXPERIENCE
VOTE FOR TEDDY'S CHOICE AND HIS BFF IN NOVEMBER
TURN THE PAGE...BUT DON'T THROW AWAY THE BOOK
Not a single one of the TV talking heads...and they all admitted this last night...believed that Obama had a chance, not even as recently as Iowa. None wanted to be proved wrong, so they have all been pushing VERY hard for Hillary.
I have been ridiculed since 2004, as have many of us, for believing Obama will be our next president! Now these same pundits are telling us HRC is the best choice for VP...but they have all been wrong all the time, so why should we believe them now?
They need a new network, WATT, Wrong All The Time, so these pundits and prognosticators who have their own agendas , can work there. Chuck Todd's wife works for McCain. Scarborough, Buchanan, Lorne Michaels, David Gregory, lots of Republicans who are already very rich would get much richer under Bomb Bomb's administration.
I hope Catholic, Spanish-speaking, Chair of Banking/Housing, 25+Foreign Relations Chris Dodd will be our next vice president. Charismatic One Who Glides On Water, greatest candidate in 40 years, needs him.
In Oct 2002, Barack Obama was 41 years old, and he was runing for re-election to the Illinois Senate.
In the United Stated, people were gripped with anti Muslim sentiment, and invading Iraq was considered not only acceptable, but our patriotic duty by over 85% of the voters.
Much has been made of the fact that Barack Obama did not have to cast a vote at that time. So why did he stand up and give a speech, as a young Senator with a Muslim-sounding name who was running for re-election, why did he stand up and take an unpopular position that got him branded unpatriotic---and worse---for speaking out against the invasion of Iraq when he was not required to do so? He could have taken the safer route and kept quiet, but instead he showed courage, and a grasp of foreign policy that George Bush and Hillary Clinton and John McCain and hundreds of others failed to understand.
I was very much influenced by this speech from 2002. I was living in New York on 9/11. I have been unable to find this speech and many others by clicking "EN ESPANOL" .
This is an election about information. Whenever voters are DEPRIVED of information, they seem to vote for Hillary or McCain. The Obama campaign needs to get the information to the voters. The most informed people in the US voted for Obama, but many Spanish-speaking people did not. Maybe they did not have enough access to information.
Are the speeches buried somewhere on the website?
My mother became a fan when she heard the 2004 convention speech. I didnt see that one either.
The Puerto Rican primary is this Sunday, with 56 pledged delegates available. I tried to get this speech into the campaign here beginning March 31st, the day they opened HQ. I began looking for an Obama headquarters, last September! I just thought we should start small, and early!
Let's do it, all you popular vote fans. Let's have a popular vote! Everyone, one person, one vote. Go ahead, Puerto Rico too. What are you afraid of? Let's have a popular vote primary, or a run-off primary. Send the superdelegates on vacation and let's have a day of real democracy.
And one other thing. CNN and MSNBC and ABC and FOX and all the rest. You will be allowed to report the results on one condition: you may not keep yakking about the black vote and the white vote. We hate that. Most of us are tan! You may not refer to the working class unless you also include Donald Trump who never takes a day off. And a word of warning from older voters: STOP calling us names.
A National Primary based on the popular vote would give Barack Obama a lead of several million votes. Had the entire primary process been based on the popular vote from the beginning, do you think Barack Obama would have begun his campaign in 2 rural states, Iowa and New Hampshire, which were 95% + + white?
He would have campaigned in every small, medium and large city in America, on every college and university campus and he would have made an appearance at every Borders and Barnes and Noble in America. He would have been far far ahead in the popular vote by now.
Just as he will be in November. I am totally in favor of using the popular vote to select our nominee.
Let's ask every state and territory to vote on the 4th of July.
Celebrate Democracy!
Real Representation!
You want to count the popular vote? Absolutely. Let's count them all.
I believe Hillary Clinton's remark was despicable and dangerous. Many of us have been listening to her for months, and I have heard her come very close time and time again to saying she is in the race because anything may happen....then she pauses, ominously. She has alluded to this same scenario on several occasions since she lost the very first election in Iowa. She currently holds Bobby Kennedy's seat in the Senate, but I hope New Yorkers finally decide NO MAS.
In a few hours I will be seeing Barack Obama here in Old San Juan. After JFK and MLK and Bobby, many people lost faith in politics. Many now are feeling that same excitement again, and young people are feeling it for the first time.
People begin to appreciate Barack Obama once they learn more about him. Information is the key. Once he becomes our 44th president, I believe the policies of the new administration will convince the people of Puerto Rico of what Obama said in his speech in Florida yesterday: Todos somos Americanos.
I voted for Bill Clinton twice and I voted for Hillary Clinton twice when I lived in New York, but I began reading Barack Obama's books and evaluating what everyone wrote about him and I became a committed Obama supporter. His October 2002 speech giving his reasons against the invasion of Iraq, wisely predicted all the dire results that we are witnessing today. He was brave to take a stand back then, as he has been so many times throughout his life. Once I had the opportunity to become informed, I became a passionate supporter of Sen.Obama.
In every part of the country where people have gotten to know Barack Obama, they have voted for him by wide margins. In Vermont, my home state, which has a population which is 98% white, and just as rural as West Virginia, they voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. Why? Information. This is the key. How did they get to know him in Vermont? He never even made one visit there! But many people in the state were accessing information on-line and reading about him. They got to know him!
In many parts of the 50 states, and here in Puerto Rico, many people have not had a chance yet to learn much about Sen. Barack Obama. They are making a leap of faith, trusting us who tell them about his message and his life and his experience. I am very proud of all the people here who are voting for our next Peacemaker-in-Chief. You are the people who are truly demonstrating THE COURAGE TO BELIEVE.
Michelle visited Old San Juan, a hospital in Santurce, the Botanical Gardens in Caguas. No first lady ever looked more beautiful (well, she tied Jackie Kennedy). She appeared with memebers of all political parties...certainly a juggling act...and promised to return with her daughters. My friend Julie said she should take them out to Build-a-Bear. Obama-Bear? Basketball Obama Bear with a #44 jersey? Next time of course, Papa Bear himself should come on down! And how about bringing Senator Dodd and his family? He served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic and he speaks Spanish. We have thousands of Dominicanos here in Puerto Rico.
The nomination is based on delegates. The delegates in Puerto Rico will contribute to the total number of delegates who will choose the next president of the United States. Puerto Rico counts, the delegates count.
The population in every state and territory plays a role in determining the delegates, but this is not a contest for the popular vote. If it WERE, Obama would NOT have begun by campaigning in the cornfields of Iowa and the snowy mountains of New Hampshire, states which were 98% white, with many older, rural voters who never heard his name before.
He would have gone to every small, medium and large city in America, every college and university campus, every suburb with educated voters, most southern states and every wild west state and the Pacific Northwest and Vermont and Hawaii and Kansas and Illinois.
IF the metric for the nomination had been the popular vote, Obama would have already won the nomination. The Clinton campaign should be careful not to overplay their hand: if we held a national primary tomorrow, and we based it on the popular vote, Obama would win by millions!
The popular vote in Puerto Rico counts just as much as the popular vote in New York. In Texas. In California. That is to say...it doesnt count at all. Because the nomination is based on delegates, not on the popular vote.
TOP TEN REASONS WHY CHRIS DODD SHOULD BE BARACK'S WING MAN
10. ALL THAT WHITE HAIR=EXPERIENCE,EXPERIENCE,EXPERIENCE. 33 YEARS IN WASHINGTON DC!
9. SPANISH ANYONE? SI, SI, HE CAN CAMPAIGN IN SPANISH!
8. IDEALISTIC, PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEER BACK IN THE 6O'S. HE MIGHT REMIND BARACK OF HIS OWN MOTHER ANN. DODD WAS BORN IN 1944; ANN IN 1942.
7. DODD IS A ROMAN CATHOLIC WHICH COULD HELP OBAMA! AND IT WOULD BE FUN TO SEE WHATTHE NEW WINGMAN MIGHT SAY ABOUT PASTOR HAGEE'S GREAT W*ORE REMARK.
6. HE'S GOT GREAT FOLLOWING AMONG JEWISH VOTERS EVER SINCE HIS FATHER, ALSO NAMED SENATOR DODD, WAS A JURY MEMBER AT THE NAZI TRIALS AT NUHREMBURG.
5. HE WAS AN EARLY SUPPORTER OF OBAMA. AN EARLY ENTHUSIASTIC SUPPORTER OF OBAMA. AND DO YOU REALLY WANT ED RENDELL NEXT IN LINE FOR THE PRESIDENCY?
4. SPEAKING OF NEXT IN LINE, READY ON DAY 2. THE VICE PRESIDENT HAS TO HELP THE TICKET GET ELECTED, BUT HE ALSO HAS TO READY ON DAY 2. A BONUS HERE WOULD BE THAT DODD COULD BE A REAL HELP IN GOVERNING...IN OTHER WORDS, GOOD FOR AMERICA.
3. DODD CALLED OUT HILLARY IN THE DEBATE AND TURNED THE TIDE IN THE CAMPAIGN! HE CALLED ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT SHE WAS TALKING OUT OF BOTH SIDES OF HER MOUTH ON THE ISSUE OF DRIVERS LICENSES AND ILLEGALS. WAY TO STEP UP. a VP CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO DEBATE TO WIN!
2. NOT A SHOW DOG.....HE'S NOT EDWARDS, GORE, KERRY. PEOPLE ARENT GOING TO BE CONFUSED OVER WHICH ONE IS OUR PRESIDENT.
1. VETTED, VETTED, VETTED....AFTER 17 ELECTIONS, DODD IS NOT GOING TO EMBARRASS THE CAMPAIGN WITH SCANDALS THAT WE WOULD ENCOUNTER WITH WEBB, RICHARDSON, BIDEN......
Every candidate for President of the United States should be at least as quaiified as a high school graduate applying for admission to one of our colleges or universities.
John McCain has made mistakes in economics, geography and world religions. His proposal for a gas tax holiday would cause thousands of employees who repair roads and bridges to be laid off, and for the infrastructure to continue to deteriorate. And the country would hand over millions more in debt to our children and grandchildren.
Obama has experience in the Illinois state legislature, one of the larger states, and in a country composed of states and territories, such experience should be a requirement for the presidency. It was this experience that showed Obama that MCain and Clinton were both pandering for votes and their proposals, based on his experience would actually end up costing money because the price of gas would increase. More than 100 economists agreed with Obama, including Nobel prize winners.
Barack Obama , whose mother was on the food stamp program after his father abandoned her when Obama was a baby, has been leading ever since this contest began, despite Hillary Clinton "throwing the kitchen sink at him".
In the Illinois State Legislature, Barack Obama wrote, worked on and voted yea or nay on more than 4,000 pieces of legislation. No one who works in Washington DC works on that many in 15 years!!!! (Ask Fortuno...No offense intended...he doesnt set the agenda up there!) Obama's experience in the state legislature is why he has been so outspoken about changing Washington! He is more aware than the other candidates about what can be accomplished and how those changes can be brought about.
All presidential candidates should be required to teach constitutional law for at least 5 years at a major law school as Obama has done. Of course, teaching does not pay as well as working for the Rose Law Firm where Clinton worked, and Bush and McCain are not qualified to teach law.
But...Harriet Meiers, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, suspension of habeas corpus, outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame (it's not treason if the Vice President does it!), illegal wiretapping...I would trust a constitutional scholar such as Barack Obama, who taught idealistic law students at the University of Chicago for 8-10 years to make legal decisions.
Barack Obama was elected Editor in Chief of the Harvard Law Review. By his Peers. There may be no greater honor for a law student in the WORLD! He was a poor kid. No family influence. Why did they vote for him? It must have been merit because he had nothing else to offer. I have never heard the media mention this accomplishment, or interview anyone who voted for him.
Barack Obama has the BEST experience to be #44. President of the United States!
Every time Obama campaigns in a state, he gains 10-30 points over Clinton.
Whenever Clinton campaigns, she loses10-30 points.
This is why all of the Republicans are pushing so hard to keep Clinton in the race, and why they want her to be the nominee. Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan, David Gregory, Lorne Michaels of Sat Night Live.
Clinton is claiming votes in Florida and Michigan, but neither candidate was allowed to campaign in those states. If there were a re-vote in both states after giving the candidates the opportunity to campaign, Obama would gain thousands of votes and Clinton would lose thousands.
Obama has always gained at least 10 points in every state where he is allowed to campaign. In many states he has come from a 30-point deficit to win that state. Clinton has managed to lose millions of supporters across the country since she began campaigning.
Both Florida and Michigan decided not to hold a revote. I for one wish they would have a revote. Taxpayers are paying 15 million dollars every hour to pay for the war in Iraq. We paid for elections in Iraq, but we cant afford elections in Florida and Michigan, even though they would cost no more than 2 hours or the war.
If they had a revote, Obama would gain 10-30% as he has in every state so far. He has won 30 states, Clinton 15, but he has gained over 10% of the vote in EVERY state, and she has lost support in every state where she campaigns.
Whenever Clinton campaigns, she loses thousands of voters. She is desperate to count the vote in Fla and Mich because neither of the candidates campaigned in those states. Obama and Clinton both pledged to follow the DNC rules, and now Clinton is urging the superdelegates to allow her to violate her pledge. She never would have won New Hampshire if she hadnt made that pledge. I do not believe they should vote for someone who violates rules, backs out on pledges and breaks promises
The US has entered its 6th year in a war in Iraq. It has been costing us 15 million dollars an hour, and it may end up costing our children and grandchildren three trillion dollars. Our own economy has gone into a recession, the dollar is worth half of what it was relative to the euro before the invasion, oil is over $100.00 a barrel, people are losing their jobs, their homes.....and what is the news???? The 2 candidates who voted FOR the war are attacking the one candidate who spoke out presciently against it.
It turns out that the United States has switched sides in the war, which is easier to do than you might think. No one really knew if we were fighting for Iraq or against Iraq anyway. They just called all the enemies anywhere.... terrorists, insurgents, or usually, the bad guys. For 4 years, the bad guys were the minority Sunnis, the feared republican guard that was in its last throes according to Rumsfeld. This disbanded army was suspected of harboring loyalty to Saddam, did not support the Shia majority government, allied with al Qaeda creeping in over the borders, and killed thousands of Americans.
Now it turns out they arent the bad guys anymore. Now or taxes are paying about 70,000 of these former bad guys $300.000 a month not to kill us anymore. Except now they arent the bad guys anymore, but the Sons of Iraq.
Of course, none of this is news. What is news is that Barack Obama said Americans who have been left with the bill, no home, no job....they feel bitter. The media has decided this is news, because the ratings are up the onger the race goes on.
All the Hillary people want the race to continue. All the Republicans want the race to continue. All the media people, choosing these stories, are desperate to keep people interested in this election as long as possible. CNN 's ratings have gone up 70%, and Hillary/Barack is their #1 show.
Section 936 of the IRS tax code granted tax exempt status to US companies on profits from their Puerto Rican subsidiaries. By the early 1990's, over 200,000 Puerto Ricans had good manufacturing jobs. During the Clinton administration, a 10-year phase-out of Section 936 tax-exempt status was approved by Congress. The phase-out began in 1995 and was completed on Dec. 31, 2005. I think it is necessary to remember.........it was under Bill Clinton that the jobs began to disappear. The Clintons dont think the Puerto Ricans will be able to trace it back to them, and I admit, it is not easy. Think first. For every one person who loses a good job, 5 individuals are adversely affected--usually the children. Other jobs dont open up...they dry up,when the good manufacturing jobs are sold out from under us. The true colors of both the Clintons have been exposed, and they have Not been good for Puerto Rico.
Barack Obama showed how he will bring opposing sides together. Yesterday during the Senate hearings on Iraq, he described what Iraq might look like AFTER the war was over. And amazinly, he even got the General to agree with him! This is what is so special about Barack Obama: he can build consensus. The other Republicans and Democrats in Congress keep scoring points by stating their polar opposite points of view, and never the twain shall meet. The two opposite sides get a lot of support, but they continue to polarize and get nothing done. What I watched Obama do yesterday was actually get the General to move closer to the end game. And Obama now has the General's own words that he can use when McCain starts talking about victory in Iraq.
Obama will be our 44th president.
