More money needs to be allocated by Governments toward PROMOTION of climate change evidence. Plenty of television programmes have been produced to underline the impact on the planet of global warming, the melting of sea ice, rising sea levels, the knock-on effect of weather patterns from melting ice, destruction of habitat and wildlife such as in the Amazon rainforest and the impact on human life etc. With more funding various top networks could be utilized to broadcast these programmes on a dedicated climate change television and internet channel. Many networks only show programmes which get high ratings, so the creation of climate/environmental television and internet channel must be created to get more support, to generate more investment in alternative energy industry, and to broadcast energy saving initiatives to the public.
Government could easily find more money for a climate-only television channel. For example, the amount of money spent on defense spending could be reduced by a mere 1 or 2 percent to make funds available to get a climate channel going. The World Bank could be used for the creation of a dedicated climate channel in many countries, and to have it broadcasted via the web. A proportion of alcohol and cigarette tax could be allocated for a climate fund, to assist in the initial stage of the creation of a climate change channel. The public needs to be educated more on these issues, and investors will follow the trend of alternative energy creation very quickly if the climate issue is promoted more and more.Russell S.Wyllie of http://www.Youtube.com/RealClimateNews
With oil reserves running low, energy bills are going up, to the point where oil cannot be profitted from due to lack of supply. Investment in newer, cleaner energy will be needed to satisfy consumer demand when oil is too expensive or in short supply.
With rising competitive demand, and increased pollution that commercialism and industrialisation produces, cleaner energy must be developed and provide energy to customers within a few years, or an energy shortage crisis might become the next problem that all countries will face, leading to lack of production of neccesities like food and clothing, shelter and medical services.
Imagine if the world was in an energy crisis and natural tragedies greatly affect or devastate some of our main cities. The problem of assisting others would be much more difficult and expensive, and criminal activity might increase by 100 with people of no criminal intentions suddenly being faced with situations that force them to break the law to survive,to feed and support children in freezing cold houses for example.
Iraq is like that now, with little running water or electricity supplies available, and we as 'civilized' nations could repair the problem, yet our own energy problems are now starting to arise, and there is little rebuilding of infrastructure in Iraq when we cannot be sure of the oil supply to other countries that manufacture all our commodities.
Britain suffered rationing of oil, coal and gas in the War era of 1940. 55 million tons of food imported at the time by Britain had to be reduced, due to German bombing of supply ships. The problems affected energy supplies, and the rationing only ceased in 1954, 14 years after it was started. Most sububan areas lived with basic necessities a lot of the time.
Either war or natural disaster could impact on the energy crisis, and life could become very expensive. When could this happen? A War or a natural disaster is unpredictable and usually unavoidable, so it's best to prepare for the worst, by building and promoting cleaner lifestyles and cleaner energy supplies. It's also sensible to convince our politicians to stop their wars, for whatever reason they fight is expensive, unproductive, destructive and often selfish-greed-crusades.
Imagine what the World could have done with the hundreds of billions of dollars and pounds spent on the Iraq War. We should be building new clean energy on a massive scale, yet we seem to be dragging our knuckles, waiting for oil to run out.
The clock is ticking, oil is running low, and not enough is being done toward creating cleaner energy to replace the need for oil. Cleaner, natural energy will cut pollution, prevent future oil-wars and because each country can manufacture and produce cleaner renewable energy.
Israel is America's biggest arms customer, with a collosal $18Billion spent by Israel on U.S. weapons, aircraft and vehicles from 1990-2000. In 2005, Israel were being condemned for selling weapons to China, who then sold weapons onto the military dictatorship of Burma. Burma's military dictatorship is now using those weapons against its own civilians.
The Burmese dictatorship gunned down 3000 Burmese civilians in 1988. It seems that the Chinese have passed onto Burma their weapons and blessings to use them indiscriminately, knowing the risk of furthur bloodshed.
After the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, where Chinese civilians were gunned down by the Chinese military, the Chinese Government had a weapons sales embargo against them. In light of China's and Burma's history, why have the U.N. let China sell weapons? The situation in Burma is so fragile, that another massacre could happen, making it the third in that region, involving China and Burma.
China has now become powerful and economically strong.China is the biggest customer of Burmese oil. China in return, has sold weapons to Burma with the knowledge that the Burmese dictatorship might use them against Burmese civilians. Countries like the U.S. and others have been totally useless in stopping these sales of arms, and are partly accountable for the China-Burmese arms trade and violence in Burma today.
China now has the 2008 Olympics bringing them billions in revenue and tourism. People shouldn't forget that people in China are under a dictator-style scrutiny, where the internet is sensored and access of information is limited by Chinese Government. There have been many reports of buses in the streets of China which capture anti-Government protestors to be taken for interogation and torture. Other reports of atrocities in China recently are of a medical scandal, where healthy people are falsely told that their organs are diseased, and trick the patient into having them removed. These healthy organs are then sold on the black market. Many people in China live in poverty, or work for less than a pound per day.
Now Burma is suffering because of China's calous and calculated trading of arms. Hypocritical World Leaders sit on their hands and have turned a blind eye to the Burmese dictatorship, yet America sold arms to both Iran and Iraq to fight each other in the 70's and 80's, and now the USA wants to stop Iran from becoming a strong Military presence in the East, yet are doing nothing for the ongoing struggle for Democracy in Burma. People are publicly and loudly calling for democracy in Burma, but something is stopping international intervention.
The truth is, that China's economy is so strong that foreign investors do not want to upset relations and business, and would rather say nothing about the arms trade and China's appauling Human Rights record. While foreign business shakes hands with Chinese business, Burma is in crisis because of China providing Burma's dictatorship with military might.
So the next time you hear China and Burma being mentioned, remember the hypocracy that steers them into war and violence. Olympics, weapons , oil and blood makes the World go round...
