I don't know why people are so surprised and shocked by Obama's decsion to opt out of public financing for the general election. After all, his whole campaign has been supported by the public - as it should be - and he's trying to change the want things are being done in Washington - this is another one of those ways. If Obama can raise millions on his own, why should he give that up? People who are inspired by this man WANT to give their money and own a part of this campaign. People aren't being forced to contribute... this is all public financing - just done differently - without any limits. If the tables were turned, McCain would be doing the same thing - except for all the wrong reasons. Obama is doing this because he wants to change the way politics are handled in Washington - and this is just another one of those ways. Why should he tell people that WANT to give to him "I'm sorry - I can't accept your money - that's the way the rules are".... He's still be financed by the public - but without a limit - and I see nothing wrong with that. People are allowed to give so much - so it's not like one person can donate $5 million (and then Obama feels indebted to this person) -- Obama has been making many changes already and I for one am excited and happy to see it. His whole campaign is about change, so people better get used to more change coming.
I know it's been a while since I donated and I feel awful, but funds have been tight - so I'll give what I can and will continue to do so... I believe in this man and feel that my donations are being wisely spent - it's a good investment on my future and the future of FUTURE generations to come!
McCain can whine all he wants about Obama not keeping his word - but he owes NOTHING to McCain. This kind of position is not something worth even arguing about. The fact that McCain says that this tells us how "untrustworthy" Obama is - is absolutely ridiculous. Nice try McCain. You'll have to try a little harder than that - and even then you won't have anything to use against him.
I know you're angry and I know you're really upset that Senator Clinton did not win the nominee. I would be upset if Senator Obama wouldn't have won, but he did. Now is the time for this party to come together and fight to take back the White House. The Republicans - more specifically - this Administration - has had their time and they blew it. I can't believe how much they got away with. I hope justice will be served one day, I really do.
I feel the need to talk openly here because a lot of what has happned over the past few months has really bothered me. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh - I'm just over-tired and need to get this off my chest:
She didn't win the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination and talk of "cheating" or anything like that is absolute garbage. Senator Clinton, along with every other nominee running for President, went along with the DNC's plan to punish MI and FL for not abiding by the rules. What I don't understand is why, if she agreed to these terms, did she keep her name on the ballot in these states AND campaign there also? To me that showed that she thinks she's above the rules - she can do whatever she wants if it will benefit her. What kind of message do you think that is sending out to Americans?
If she was already breaking rules, I can just imagine what it would be like if she were in office... I just don't trust the woman. Besides that, the comments Bill has made over the past months have been really distrubing and dishartening. They both showed that they would do or say anything just to win the nomination... it seemed to be all about ego.
What I admire about Senator Obama was the way he handled himself through all of her vicious attacks - he never EVER lowered himself to her (their) level. He has remained true to his words and that shows a lot about his character and his values. THIS is the kind of person I want in office. THIS is the person I want as President - someone I can trust. Someone who worked hard to get where he is. Someone that offers a new vision of hope - and that's something this country so deseperately needs right now.
So, since Senator Clinton did not win the delegates and Obama did (fairly), Senator Clinton is asking you, her supporters to back Senator Obama. It would be a HUGE mistake to vote for McCain just because you're mad that she didn't win. Isn't that a little childish? I watched an interview with some women saying that she would vote for McCain.... then the reporter asked her if she even agreed with his policies and she said "SURE".... Okay, if she did, then why was she supporting Cliinton all along? If you truly cared about Senator Clinton AND about the message she was trying to send - that Washington needs to change - then you will do what she has asked of you - to back Obama. It would be a HUGE mistake to let stubborness choose who will be the next President. Do you REALLY think McCain is the right man for the job? I mean really... this man has even admitted he knows nothing about the economy... He can't speak very well (and look how embarrassed we've been with Bush for the past 8 years).
Clinton and Obama have the same policies with a few differences here and there. If the only reason you supported her was because she was female, then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you just shouldn't vote. If you're going to vote you should be aware of each candidates policies and where they stand on the issues... this is OUR lives they are dealing with here. Do you want to see progress? Voting for McCain won't bring progress, I can tell you that.
I know there have been a great number of Clinton supporters who have put aside any hard feelings and pushed up their sleeves and said "What can I do to help Obama win this November"... If you supported Clinton's policies than you shouldn't have a problem with Obama's.
It would be a big mistake to let childish emotions decide who you vote for come November 4th.
To all of those that have choosen to listen to Clinton and help Obama - THANK YOU - we need everyone we can get! Bottom line is - we care about this country and we care about how their policies will affect us... therefore supporting Obama is the RIGHT CHOICE - it's the ONLY CHOICE....
GO OBAMA - YES WE CAN!
Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? :)
I'm so happy to finally get the general election underway. Although I feel bad for Sen. Obama - not getting much downtime - but I have to give it to him - he never looks tired. I don't know how the man does it!
I loved his speech in Minnesota and I still love hearing it. It gives me goosebumps still! I'm so excited to be a part of this historic time in history - but to also be there from the beginning when so many people said he didn't stand a chance. I remember clearly when he won Iowa. I was doing a lot of screaming and jumping up and down. I can't imagine what it'll be like on November 4th!
I can NOT wait for Obama and McCain to get a room together and debate. Obama will blow McCain away! It's going to be so much fun to wath!
In the meantime - doing what I can - which by the way - is what? What's everyone else doing around the country? I took a short class and am now an official registration deputy (sounds corny- but that's what they call it) so I can register new voters all over Wisconsin - but I'd like to know how other people around the country are going about this. Are you going door-to-door? How has the reception been? Since we're supposed to be signing up ALL kinds of voters - Republicans, Democrats, Independents, etc... I don't wear my Obama t-shirts. I actually bought one that says "Ask me how to register to vote" - if anyone wants to buy one go to zazzle.com - that's where I found it....
You can tell me to not jump the gun - that it's not official yet - but as everyone knows we could have called this over a looooooong time ago. Tomorrow will finally end this primary season - THANK GOD!!!! And our man Barack DID IT!! Now we need to focus on the general election where we'll easily beat McCain... And no one thought he would ever make it this far - All I have to say is - obviously Americans are SCREAMING, are BEGGING for change - change that Obama will bring... I'm looking forward to tomorrow's events and to hear what Hillary has to say... I'm so tired of her refusing to give up and just quit already - we need to work on uniting the Democratic Party - but some of her supporters are a little "out there" (i.e. Harriet Christian) WOW was that lady wacked!
Until tomorrow...
Wednesday May 28th there will be a training class on how to register new voters, at Preble High School at 5 PM. Then, the following Saturday (May 31st) a bunch of us will be organizing and registering new voters - regardless whether they are Republican, Democratic, Independent, etc... Please come join us - be a part of this amazing movement! If you have any quesitons please don't hesitate to ask... :)
It's only a matter of time before we can OFFICIALLY name Obama our Democratic nominee. For those that are worried that Clinton could somehow pull this one out from behind, don't waste your energy worrying about it because it's NOT going to happen. It's been a long fight, but we did it! It's hard to imagine what it was like a little over a year ago... no one gave Obama a second thought. Now look where we are... Anything is possible - but what's even more exciting is that we have a REAL CHANCE at fixing this country... we have a REAL CHANCE at having a wonderful president - that one in a million person - and it's just within our grasp....
McCain, here we come!!
What an awesome night last night! I stayed up until they finally could call Indiana for sure - I was so hoping that Obama would have won it - but I'll take the 2% difference!
I'd like to know what is going through Hillary's head when she "wins" these states ~ is she that delusional that she thinks she won it all by herself? Rush's "Operation Chaos" clearly helped her win Indiana - I believe that Obama would have won had it not been for the Republicans voting for Hillary. She said the people have spoken ~ yes ~ they've spoken that they want only want her to win because they believe McCain can beat her in November.
Now we find out that she has loaned her campaign a total of over 11 million dollars! How dumb can she be? She's NOT going to win the nomination yet she keeps sinking her own money into her dying campaign. Her own supporters are telling her to pack it up and throw in the towel! WHY is she doing this? There has to be some reason - and I'd like to know what it is...
I can't wait for the debates Obama will have with McCain - he's going to blow McCain away!!! Let's get this general election going!!!
YES WE CAN!!
You worked your butts off for this campaign and it paid off! Thank you for all your hard work!
That's it... short and sweet today! :)
I refuse to read any of the MSM articles because it will only piss me off and I don't want to be pissed off. I'm tired of being fed lies and blown-out-of-proportion stories... as I'm sure the rest of you are...
The good news today is that Obama received, what? 4 more super delegates!?!? (I know at least 3!) That's EXCELLENT NEWS!!! Obama has not changed one bit since he entered this race - he's stayed true to his word and in politics, that's hard to do - he's one incredible man whom I admire greatly.
I can't wait for this country to move forward in the right direction under his leadership. It's exciting to think of all the changes (for the better) that will come out of his presidency. Granted, he will have his plate full with all of Bush's messes he created, but that's not Barack's fault - he's just the lucky guy that gets to clean up the guy's mess.
GO OBAMA - ALL THE WAY!! :)
Let's continue to stay strong, but most importantly - stay POSITIVE! :)
I received a couple of e-mails that suggest that all supporters try to keep our posts positive instead of negative - and I couldn't agree more! We need to stop letting the media get us down. We know our man Obama is the ONE and that's all that matters! So - Let's here it for Obama! YES WE CAN!!!! CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!
It's to the point where I don't even want to read the news anymore. I'm so sick of the spins and the lies. I'm sick of the media treating us like we don't have a brain. I was especially irritated when I read on CNN that "Obama is losing his supporters". That irritated me. There are so many stupid polls out there and I'm sure they got that statistic from one of their child's classroom polls. I wouldn't put it past the media.
Obama's supporters are stronger than ever and more DETERMINED than ever. Nothing Clinton can do will change the fact that Obama has already won this primary - she's only wasting her money (that she doesn't even have) and dragging out this whole process.
HILLARY - DO US ALL A FAVOR AND GIVE IT UP! You're FINISHED!
Watch Obama explain why he sometimes takes political punches without firing back.
(CNN) – Sen. Barack Obama used a question during a campaign event Saturday to explain his unusual approach to politics.
“How do we get rid of that huge divisiveness in this country?,” a voter asked Obama in Anderson, Indiana.
“The president sets the tone,” the Illinois senator said before explaining the bipartisan approach he’d take if elected to the White House.
“But, I’m also going to try to show this during the course of the campaign,” he added. “Sometimes you take some hits. Even during this campaign, I’ve been taking some hits.”
“One of the things that I learned in the school yard was: the folks that are talking tough all the time, they’re not always that tough. If you’re really tough, you’re not always looking to try to start a fight. If you’re really tough, sometimes you just walk away. If you’re really tough, you just save it for when you really need it,” Obama said.
“I’m not interested in fighting people just for the sake of scoring political points.” “If I’m going to fight somebody it’s going to be fighting over the American people and what they need.”
Obama’s effort to explain his sometimes non-confrontational approach came on the same day that his rival Sen. Hillary Clinton proposed a Lincoln-Douglas style debate. Prior to Clinton’s challenge, Obama said in a television interview set to air Sunday that he would not agree to any more debates with Clinton before the May 6 primaries in North Carolina and Indiana. After learning of Clinton's proposal, the Obama campaign maintained that the Illinois senator would not participate in any more debates until after May 6.
THEN WHY DOESN'T HE ENDORSE OBAMA ALREADY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??
(CNN) – The most powerful African-American in Congress again scolded former President Bill Clinton for comments he made over the course of the Democratic presidential race.
In an interview with the New York Times late Thursday, House Majority Whip James Clyburn called the former president's conduct "bizarre," and said several of Clinton's actions had deeply upset many African-Americans.
Clyburn told the newspaper that many African-Americans believed the Clintons were trying to damage Obama to the point where he could not be elected. He also made similar comments in an interview with Reuters Thursday.
"There are African Americans who have reached the decision that the Clintons know that she can’t win this," he told Reuters. "But they’re hell-bound to make it impossible for Obama to win.”
Speaking with the New York Times, Clyburn said such actions could lead to a longtime division between the former president and his once most reliable constituency.
“When he was going through his impeachment problems, it was the black community that bellied up to the bar,” Clyburn said. “I think black folks feel strongly that this is a strange way for President Clinton to show his appreciation.”
Speaking to reporters Friday, Obama said he does not believe in "irreparable breaches. "
"I am a big believer in reconciliation and redemption," he said. "This has been a fierce contest. I am confident, come August there are going to be a whole bunch of people standing on the stage with a lot of balloons and confetti raining down on the Democratic nominee and people are going to be excited about taking on John McCain in November."
(CNN) — A “Hillraiser” – a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton – said Friday he had defected to Barack Obama’s campaign. The official announcement will be made next week.
Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon – who served as ambassador to Chile during the Clinton administration – had raised close to half a million dollars for Clinton’s campaign, reports Chuck Todd, who broke the story.
"We're just bleeding each other out," Guerra-Mondragon told the Washington Post. "Looking at it as coldly as I can, I just don't see how Senator Clinton can overcome Senator Obama with delegates and popular votes. I want this fight to be over, the quicker the better."
He added that leaving the Clinton campaign for Obama's "was a very, very difficult decision for me to make. I am an old and longtime friend of Senator Clinton. And I continue to think she is a fantastic and formidable person. But I am first of all a Democrat."
Obama WILL be the nominee. Period. Clinton has alienated so many people by the way she has acted during her campain. She's everything that people have been sick of in Washington, so why would we want her in there? Let's just say (for laughs) that Clinton wins - and makes it all the way to Washington. She is going to COMPLETELY forget about all of us LITTLE people and the promises she has made. She's saying ANYTHING just to get the nomination - I can't believe all of the naive suckers that are eating up her lies. What is wrong with them? How can they not see through her?
Anyway - I got off subject here - the whole point is - Obama is our man - and there is nothing Clinton can do to change that. So for all those out there that are biting their nails and needlessly buring a hole in their stomach, don't worry - We just need to sit and wait this out - I just feel bad for Obama - he HAS to be so tired... and TIRED of her attacks. I really don't know HOW they can be friends after this. I can see Obama being the bigger person (as he has been all along) but Clinton - nah - she'll hold a grudge... she'll pout... and she'll forever claim that SHE was the true winner... wah wah....
Anyway - that's just my two cents... OH - and people need to STOP talking about a "dream ticket" - it would be more like a NIGHTMARE ticket - hello!?! That's never going to happen. Pelosi has said this many times too - speaking of Pelosi - I wish she and some of the other "big name" superdelegates would step up and endorse Obama to get this thing over with. I'm tired of hearing Dean complain that the supers need to make their pick - he's ONE OF THEM... let's get the ball rolling here!
Tonight I watched "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" starring Jimmy Stewart. I think anyone who supports Obama needs to watch this movie... no matter what age - it's a great movie for all to see. Jimmy Stewart's character "Jefferson Smith" reminds me of Barack Obama - someone who cares about his country and will fight against the corruption in Washington. We've been waiting for our own "Mr. Smith" and he has finally come. '
For those who have never seen "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" it's about a young, ethical, energenic man who was elected Senator - a man who hasn't been corrupted by Washington - a man that once he arrived in Washington soon realizes how crooked the system is when one man can control the voices of others by blackmail and threats.
Mr. Smith believes in what the Constitution stands for and will fight for it like any politician should, but unfortunately many don't.
Obama has said over and over that he wants to get back to the way the government should be run - by following the Constitution that our founding fathers set forth for us.
Obama is also like "Mr. Smith" in a lot of ways - he's DOWN TO EARTH - He's the farthest thing from being an ELITIST - what a joke that comment was... I just love how the media can twist and turn words around just to stir things up otherwise they wouldn't have a job.
Anyway - I'm just rambling ... getting some thoughts off my chest...
I'm proud to be a supporter of Obama - and I'm VERY proud to be a part of this historic moment in time - when our country will elect it's first black president. It's long overdue...
